The crash site is said to be on a knife-edge, extremely steep and "more of a ridge than a mountain, stretching roughly a mile long from east to west and rising about 3,000 feet above both the Tokositna and Kahiltna Glaciers."

"A HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter is at the site and will perform the rescue either by hoisting victims or landing and assisting them, spokesman David Bedard said. He didn't know the status of the pilot or four passengers from Poland.

"They're performing the rescue right now," Bedard said just before 8:30 a.m."
