Ways Telemarketers Have Become Even More Annoying

It's fucking New Year's Day and I just got a telemarketing call. You know what? In the past year they have actually become worse.

This woman/recording just said - "I have about 200 people to get in touch with today so please pardon the recording."

Or how about the ones that put you on hold and ask you to wait. Fuck, you interrupted me during my day but you expect me to hold to wait on you.

This is such bullshit. I wish nuisance law covered this shit.

I really don't understand why they're not.

One of the best thing that happened when MrK and I moved to England was that suddenly we were on absolutely no-one's mailing or call lists. No junk mail, no telemarketing. Now that we've been here a while we do get an occasional something in the mail. but still no phone calls, thank god (touching wood).

I have a new way to deal with them. I have caller ID and a service on my phone that makes it ring differently when an unavailable number rings through. Whenever I hear that special ring, I answer the phone, "Attorney General's Office."

I'm always rewarded with a satisfactory click...unless it is one of those annoying pre-recorded ones. I hate those.

My roommate and I get the most bizarre calls. I think our favorite has been one of the surveys to see if you are eligible to participate in an experiment or something. First question - have you ever had genital warts or genital herpes? When we answered no that was all they needed to know and they hung up. It was a legit call - no prank because it was a recording thingie.

First of all, I'm sure you were an absolutely wonderful telemarketer. I'm not critcizing the people who do this as a job. I'm more likely complaining about the companies who use telemarketing.

However, I pay extra monthly fees to have my number unlisted and unpublished. I consider the phone that I pay for to be for my personal use. If I was getting free phone service in exchange for listening to advertisements, then I might think differently.

I also sleep at odd hours of the day due to my work schedule and get very grumpy if I am disturbed for no reason other than to be asked if I'd like to buy siding for my rented apartment. And before you say I should just turn off the phone to sleep, let me say that I don't feel I should have to do that. I pay for the phone so that my family and friends can reach me if I am at home. If I didn't give you my number, then you shouldn't be calling me.

I'm beyond being rude. I tried the whole, "please place me on your do-not-call list" route and got tired of being argued with or ignored. I was just hanging up on them, but that's rude too. I much prefer my above mentioned method since it lets them be the one to hang up on me.

Our state has a no call list which put a stop to most of the calls we were getting. The next thing we did was to remove the extra phone line we had. Family and close friends know they can reach us any time on our cel phone and our one and only phone line is on the internet most of the time. We do not want any of the shit they are pedaling and we sure as hell are not donating money to PETA. These people should get a real job. Working at McDonalds would be a much better choice.
