Wat's Guns-N-Stuff Thread

I have used several batches of the Prvi stuff. I pronounce it "pervy." It seems clean and consistent, and it's all reloadable. Sellier and Bellot (Czech) stuff is also good, but their M1 ammo is harder to find for cheap.

Sounds like you may have just gotten a bum batch. My cycling issues usually have to do with grungy firearms. These 4 rifles have all gotten a thorough going over. I've only fired the carbine to date, but it works as designed.
My experience is definitely not enough to be statistically representative. Just curious if others had seen issues with other calibers. Thier 6.8 SPC runs clean and consistent. 10mm was clean but could have used a bit more powder. Cycled fine, but chrono results were waaaaay lower than advertised. I expected 100-200 less than on-box velocities, but this varied up to 350 fps below all the way back to about 10 under.

But as we discussed, load-yer-own 10s produce bestest results.

I don't have a chrono.

Yet . . . .

Absolutely. Learned my lesson via multiple factory loads. Never again.

Chronos are a fantastic way to track load performance and create that beautiful base of data per lot. And prices aren't too bad, anymore. Which reminds me...pre-deer season handholding should kick off in a few weeks. Yay!!!!!

I used to match shoot and to load for that. Without a chrono. Wasn't in the budget. I found a load the rifle seemed to like and a commercial load that was maybe slightly better, but i was sure. The hand loading was to save a pretty penny. Somes, a shiny dime. I didn't mind doing it.

When I get settled in Out West, I'll resume.

Yeah, back when coins had intrinsic value. The crap we have now is on par with Monopoly money.

Hope you had a good break.
I do have a coin and currency collection that is too heavy to lift and aside from its potential worth has become a nuisance to store and manage. I do know a young enthusiast who at present has no idea how fortunate he's going to become the day I decide to pass it along.

If by "break" you meant my trip, I did. Although I've always wanted to see some of the places I visited, packing four countries and 10 or eleven significant locations into one trip with 6 airline connections, two train trips, car rentals, and an ocean cruise was a bit much. The crowds were at times annoying. I met a lot of people and waded through a lot of people getting from one place to another, always mindful of pickpockets on the advice of local police. Packed into a cable car that ran from Fira down to the harbor at Santorini a fight started between two women at the front of the car which escalated to swinging their bags of shopping loot at each other which hit some bystanders and caused a panic as people tried to get out of the way. In the commotion, my companion said she was either inadvertently or purposely "felt up" by somebody in the crowd. I told her it wasn't me and we laughed about it the rest of the trip.

Thank you for telling me. I'm almost of the opinion that maybe a tour of some sort might be better than what I could do on my own. Maybe before too long.

Hmmmm…

You started with Black.
I wonder why that would first come to your mind? 🤔🤔🤔

I do have an Eddystone. Had it for 20 years, I reckon.

CMP got some in, but I think they may have been left out in the woodshed for too long.

This trip was a bit more extravagant than I would normally permit myself, but others were involved and I wanted to put my best foot forward so I went balls out. If I ever do it again I think I'd be more reserved on where I stay and how many destinations to schedule. I'll probably pick one country and take my time to see what it has to offer.

I'm looking at a WW1 tour. It's not big, it's not far, and it's got enough time there to make it all worthwhile. I think.

I want to be at Verdun and just . . . be . . . .

I understand completely, you want to walk the field alone and be humbled by the courage and mindlessness of those who went before us.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them…

I knew you'd know.

Volgograd seems to be a bit of an issue for the near future anyway. Maybe they'll sort that out in the next several months.

There's a lot of stupidity involved in the war in Ukraine, sadly a lot of it is ours. It could be decades before an American will be entirely welcome in Russia. When I visited Italy I was reminded that 114,000 Americans were killed, wounded, captured, or missing in that WWII campaign.
