I've just finished writing, in my opinion, my most powerful and sad erotic story.
I'm for some flaw of my personality going to submit it into the Halloween story.
It won't even have an Author's Warning because the opening has such a powerful start that I believe an Author's Warning would be unneccesary and mood-breaking.
The sex is limited and mostly done in flashback or off-camera.
I expect to be burned in effigy within five seconds of its postings.
But it'll be worth it.

That being said:

Do any other authors have any tales where they have risked alienating or vastly upsetting the readers for the purpose of telling a good story?

I'm really very interested to hear.

Yup.

My one and only attempt at a non-consent/reluctance story.
I decided to write a story with a very unsympathetic leading character.
It was so far outside my normal area of writing that it was a bitch to write, and it shows.

If I had it to do over again, I would take much longer working on it before submitting it, if i submitted it at all.

Not yet. But I do have one I'm working on that will fall into that category.

I'm going to include a barf bag warning at the start of it, if I submit it at all.

erm.. sorta, kinda? but i dont care either way. i write what i feel like writing and isnt that the way it should be?

and just a heads up? you could send that story to me... *insert strong hint here*

just a suggestion:D

Looking at the ratings on some of my stories, I believe I must have alienated a lot of people. Was unintentional, I assure you.

I can't...What are you trying to say?...You want a cookie?...Is that it?...You want a cookie, right?

I wrote the whole thing completely under the influence of the saddest music in my collection. I think I'll use this method A LOT more often now, even after the mob finishes Rasputining my body.

Well, you know how I feel about torture scenes or forced sex. I don't feel that it does actually alienate readers as much as it ought to, but it does me.

Striving to understand I wrote extensively on the boards here with people who deliberately participate in rape fantasy sex, and then wrote a few stories with these elements to see if I could make the characters' motivations believable. But I don't imagine that falls into your category.

Irene, in the sculptor story's third chapter, allows herself to be the object of a gangbang for the sake of oxy-contin; the daughter in my incest story is pinned down by her father and made to agree to his enormity (that one did actually alienate some of the readers), and the newsboy in the Weasel story is cajoled into a beating which he does not enjoy at any moment of the process. He doles out whippings without liking the idea, also, and yet the stories have been H's before.

When I wrote a chapter with a genuine rape, my POV character was underage, and the story was rejected for that reason, even though all he did was witness the rape and then intervene to stop it. People on the Feedback forum had read the story without worrying about the underage part, but that has no bearing on the rejection's merits, and tells us only that the readers wouldn't have been alienated by that one, either.

Others have been far bolder. The grossout factor, I trust, has been entirely missing from my stories, for example.

I have several barf making stories.

Donna is depressing.
His Bad Hair Day takes hair fetishism to extremes.
The Giant Squid attempts to make tentacle porn respectable.
The Vinyl Dress makes fun of Vinyl fetishists.
The Virgin Unbirth is weird and upsets some.
White Scut is a parody of Erotic Horror, neither Erotic nor Horror.

There are many more that upset Anonymous.

I'm not surprised. Last night I printed off my list of submissions. It came to 15 pages of A4 paper.

You want a story that upsets readers (and authors for that matter), try 'Night Goblin.' I got bombed worse than Hiroshima and Nagasaki put together.

Yes, I do. "Plastic Love" (link in signature) is my best story so far, and it plays with all the stereotypes and most puerile mind-control fantasies, but the plot and language is thick, and it purposefully goes a step further that backlashes on the reader. It really should be in humour and satire, because it is a satire, but what would be the fun in that?

The story rating is in the middle 3's, having received a very balanced number of 1s and 5s. No middle ground. ;)

My last story "A fruitful life" has a real twist in the tail some people haven't liked that at all*L*

I have on a couple of occasions. Last Fuck Goodbye dosen't have a happy ending.

I've written an incest, a couple of non conscents, but my biggest "risk" was probably the lit olympics, since I wrote about guys having sex with girls for once :)

Good luck with the story LC

I wrote a non-erotic semi-science-fiction story called

"Silent Dancing"

That was radically different in subject and style from my other work, and I'm sure 90% of people who normally read my stuff didn't give it a second look.

Even a friend of mine who read it, said she couldn't believe I'd written that AND some of my other stories.

However, it's my best piece of writing as Steve W so I'm secretly proud of it.

The most excessive story I've posted still has a perfect score, probably because no one reads it, it's linked at the bottom of my sig.

My other identity wrote this story. Don't go there unless you're into tentacles and have strong stomach.

The first story I had posted here was a mind control story about revenge against someone using mind control. It is still listed in the Mind Control category. ;)

My other story was posted in non-erotic and not only was it not erotic, but William Shakespeare was my collaborator.
That story doesn't get many reads, not even counting looky-loos. :(

No, not a happy ending. But one damn fine ass fucking story!

LC,

I wrote a story "Burying Uncle Hiram's Ghost" about two sisters and their male cousin dealing with the girl's having been sexual abused by a rich, hypocritical, vengeful uncle. Since the subject was a tad ticklish, It was placed in Incest, were it got hammered. But I like the story.

It's a fact that my one non-erotic submission, a war story called, "Alive and Going Home," is also my highest rated. That may say it all.

I started "The Worst Chain Story Ever".

'nuff said.

And look what I did to it with Chapter 01.

Will I ever live down the disgrace of writing that?

I read, I loved, I must go on to read more...damn, you authors are pretty good.

Now you can see the horror for yourself

It's been posted.

All Hallow's Eve

May God have mercy on my soul.

Actually, no. Screw that, I'll trade that for a way to fix the gross formatting error that somehow wormed its way in when Laurel posted it.

Eh, oh well.

P.S. Svenska, Ogg, I'm as soiled as both of you on that account. I'm also in the Worst Chain Story Ever group making fun of the genre that gave me my first fans. And yes, we should all meet down here for some drinks and laughs someday.

EDITED TO ADD: True to expectations, anonymous was gravely disappointed in the work, citing its inability to make him cum. No shit sherlock.
