Is anyone using a VPN provider/service they like? Is there an agent that can be put on my router (I own mine not the ISP) so all traffic is shielded from my ISP (in my case Xfinity but we have FiOS around here as well)? I don't want to have to deal with client software on every device.

You can install a vpn on your router but it's not a one size fits all thing. At least not the last I knew although that may have changed over the last year or so.
Should be a few tutorials on how to do it on the tech sites.

No. I have Avast for my Mac and Android. But now I am adding more devices and do not want to have to put something similar on all of them. There is no "Avast for your router" - or is there? I am looking for a port of Secure Line to a device to protect the IOT in my home.

Then don't use Avast. Lots of VPNs out there and I know some will install on routers.

I use Express VPN I like it, or I should say used. When I was rentng from my boss they had net nany. and I had to use it to get on sites like lit!

OK - awesome. I misread your post. My bad.

What do you use? What router do you have?

I don't use one because all I have to hide are a few torrents and I've learned easier ways of not getting caught.
About a year ago my son wanted one on our router and we looked into it. Seemed simple enough and lots of options but we just never actually installed one. Use a standard Netgear router and extender, nothing fancy.

I remember looking into Express. Seemed like a decent one. Can't remember what it costs but I don't think it was much.

if monthly payments it was like 10/month and you could have it running on 3 devices at a time. When my yearly sub is up I am not renewing,I have my own place now and no net nanny!!

You need a router that you can flash and install one of two or 3 kinds of firmware that have openVPN included in those firmware. DD-WRT is one of them.

Once you got that, most vpn providers will have the settings you need to enter for each of those two firmware. you pick the one you decided to flash your router with.

Not all routers can be flashed. Just throw a google search ull have the info.

SENATE REPUBLICANS JUST VOTED TO KILL INTERNET PRIVACY
The G.O.P. wants to let your Internet service provider sell your browsing history to third parties—without asking first.

From health-care coverage to environmental protections, Republicans are moving quickly to erase Barack Obama’s presidential legacy. The latest Obama-era policy to be rolled back are guidelines protecting consumer Internet privacy. Last year, the Federal Communications Commission, under the direction of former Democratic chairman Tom Wheeler, mandated that broadband providers get their customers’ permission before selling or giving their data to advertisers and other third parties. On Thursday, the Senate voted along party lines, 50-48, to scrap those privacy rules, making it easier for broadband providers to share browsing history information about their customers.

Internet companies, like Facebook and Google, and internet service providers, like Verizon and AT&T, are likely pleased with the decision. The Obama-era F.C.C. ruling of last October was widely disliked by industry leaders, and less red tape would make it easier for companies to use consumers’ browsing history to help target more ads. Current F.C.C. rules allow Web sites to track your behavior and sell information about you to ad-targeting companies, but Internet service providers, under the Obama-era rules, still had to get your permission before they could do the same. That puts I.S.P.s at a disadvantage to other tech companies, they argue, when it comes to competing for ad dollars, and worries platforms like Facebook and Google, which reportedly see the rule as opening the door to further regulations in the consumer data area.

Still ISO a good solution that can be loaded on my router. Lots of client based options.

Maybe this should be the GoFundMe: Small, wire-speed device that functions as a private proxy to a randomized set of servers. Plug it in between the WAN to your ISP and your router. Make all traffic, no matter the device you allow on your network, safe from your ISP's spying.

Everyone should want one.

For the record I have NetGear Nighthawk

C7000-100NAS

I have a Nighthawk AD7200 and use Private Internet Access. A good price, and easy to switch between servers. I have PIA set up in my browser, in my taskbar, and in my router. I can seamlessly switch between any or all of the three.

I also use Bitdefender, and if you buy a year sub, it comes with a VPN and also goes into a mode called "Safepay" that sets up a temporary VPN/incognito if you go to a site that requires payment.

Any adequate VPN will shield your browsing from your ISP. But nothing can shield your browsing from the VPN servers you must link through; i.e., the best any VPN can do is promise they don't log your activity while most won't even do that.

There is no such thing as "privacy" in this digital world, dumbass. Deal with it.

Welcome to 2020! Here is a list.
