Voting Rights Struck Down

I was actually busy bitching about it in the really real world today. But I don't live in one of the specific areas that were the hardest hit, so, there's that.

Horace Cooper, co-chairman of Project 21, a network of conservative black leaders, said the court’s hand was forced by Mr. Obama and Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., who he said turned the anti-discrimination provisions into a cudgel to use against conservatives in Arizona, where the department went after a law designed to prevent illegal immigrants from voting, or in states that enacted voter ID laws after the Supreme Court said they were legal.

“I would say to the NAACP and the Urban League, if they are upset with today’s ruling they need to look to Eric Holder. He is the one who’s abusing the law,” Mr. Cooper said. “If they had singled out jurisdictions where there were actual crimes occurring, no one would have sued. These are cases where those things weren’t happening and the Justice Department said we’ve got the authority and you have to do what we say.”

The map of jurisdictions is determined by congress, not the AG.

It was no longer needed, getting a picture ID is necessary outside of voting. you can't get on a plane, check into a hotel or even enter many office buildings without one.

Company IDs don't pass voter ID laws. People aren't bitching about the fact that they want picture ID, they're bitching about the fact that is has to be current, government issued ID, and those are pricey. I live in literally the cheapest state to get them and to renew mine it was $30. Believe it or not, a lot of poor people don't have a random $30 to throw down when they want to vote. It's like having a tax at the voting booth when a lot of people feel that those IDs should have a standardized pricing or that a basic government ID should be issued once for free, you know, like the social security card that they won't accept.

No they are bitching because there has been proven voter fraud, ACORN was exposed and Al Franken stole a Senate seat because of.

I have to renew my passport in 2 years, the equvilent of $10 per year.

you can get a govt ID for free, so don't parrot the line from race huckster like Jackson and sharpeton.

Where the fuck do you live? A passport is $50 here and this is, according to the fucking courthouse where I went to get mine, the cheapest state to get one. My license is $30 to renew, and a picture ID is also $30. Where the fuck are you getting one for free?

No need to get testy but you should really read the post. You can get a valid govt ID (not a passport) for free if you qualify.

As far as a passport it is good for 10 years it is a bargain.

On December 7, 2009, the former Massachusetts Attorney General, after an independent internal investigation of ACORN, found the videos that had been released appeared to have been edited, "in some cases substantially". He found no evidence of criminal conduct by ACORN employees, but concluded that ACORN had poor management practices that contributed to unprofessional actions by a number of its low-level employees.[97][98][99][100] On March 1, 2010, the District Attorney's office for Brooklyn determined that the videos were "heavily edited"[101] and concluded that there was no criminal wrongdoing by the ACORN staff in the videos from the Brooklyn ACORN office.[102][103] On April 1, 2010, an investigation by the California Attorney General found the videos from Los Angeles, San Diego and San Bernardino to be "heavily edited,"[10] and the investigation did not find evidence of criminal conduct on the part of ACORN employees.[10][89] On June 14, 2010, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) released its findings which showed that ACORN evidenced no sign that it, or any of its related organizations, mishandled any federal money they had received.[104][105]

Facts don't matter to you. You choose to believe falsehoods simply because you want them to be true.

Read what post?

And it might be a bargain if you ever use it. I could have gotten a passport 10 years ago, and been too fucking poor to leave the country and that's $50 I've wasted. I could have gotten moderately good weed or fed myself for month on super shitty food.

And I seriously did not know (and highly doubt) that you can get a free ID that will be accepted as voter ID since, believe it or not, that's 99% of what people are bitching about.

I see Texas already re-passed the exact same voter ID law that was just ruled unconstitutional ten months ago.

And North Carolina moves ahead with theirs that they didn't dare push for before.

Scott Harshberger who is more a political hack than a lawyer was hired by ACORN therefore it was not independent.

It would be like James O'Keefe hiring someone and saying it was an idependent investigation

Sadly, this is a win for the GOP. Keep in mind that the GOP has lost 5 of the last 6 popular votes. They have to gerrymander, pass racial voting laws, and generally do every underhanded thing in order to win elections.

Of course waffen is a huge piece of shit but that doesn't really need a vote to decide it's pretty obvious.

Holy crap. The videos were heavily doctored. Your whole case against ACORN depends on heavily doctored videos being sound evidence. Why would you do that?

According to whom: ACORN, MSNBC?

By independent external investigative law firm Proskauer Rose. Their full report: http://www.proskauer.com/files/uploads/report2.pdf

By the non-partisan Congressional Research Service.
The independent external investigation found that while some of the counsel given by employees and volunteers was "unprofessional and inappropriate", the videos that had been released appeared to have been edited, "in some cases substantially", and ACORN employees had taken no illegal actions.

The videos had a goddamn voiceover and you're still claiming they're legit. If someone takes a video of you ordering a Big Mac at the drive through and they voice over you trying to traffic human beings does that mean you're guilty of human trafficking?

What's wrong with you?
