Hi all,

I've experienced before that a story gets dozens of views while still pending approval (still wondering how that's possible); but just now I find one of my stories to have almost 2000 views AND 5 votes to boot (see attached screen shot) - while still pending approval? Going to that URL will show the story just fine, as of writing this post, while it's still pending...

It looks like it went live but wasn't posted on either the new list or the category page, yes?

PM Laurel about it. Explain what is happening--it wouldn't hurt to include the live link to your story and the picture. Sometimes these things happen, and she's usually good about straightening them out.

The post date of 8/25 tells me it was set to be released tomorrow but someone flipped the switch to soon. I had that happen on a contest story years ago. Laurel fixed it.

I was mostly curious, doesn't matter too much. I don't see it as an actual problem, it mainly looks very strange.
Also remarkable is that it has more than double the page views than the first part of that story, which was already approved. Oh well, in time it'll go officially live and "problem" solved.
It seems indeed they publish only one submission of a series per day, even though I submitted all at once.

I've seen a slight disconnect between various pages with new stories. A page might go live but not actually appear anywhere for a few minutes, or vice-versa in your case. I'm guessing that they do a big update on a private PC, and then the pages get uploaded to the main server. The order in which pages are uploaded could affect things for a few minutes.

Hmmmmy my story has yet to appear on the "New Stories" page in spite of having been up since around midnight on the 23rd. It is in the category list and has gotten over 4000 views so it's not doing poorly, but I'm wondering why it was never posted to the new page.

It was posted early and then taken down.

Same thing happened with my story. Last night I was on top of the page (along with your story and a few others), even though our stories were pending for Saturday. It got taken down this morning, but my views/votes are still there for the story.

It's actually happened a few times recently where a pending story gets posted early and stays on top, but I guess the reason they fixed it this time is because there's a contest going on and it wouldn't be fair.

Scratch it, I am on the New Stories list now, but a couple pages back since it's been a few days. It must have glitched and didn't show earlier. Oh well. Maybe I should try for a contest entry.

BFW or whatever alt she was using mentioned this a few weeks back, claimed it was a conspiracy.

I'm wondering if its as simple as a time zone thing. Maybe its not up in the US yet, but somewhere around the world it is up and running and getting votes.

LC68, we've had this discussion, or some variant of it, ever since I joined this Board, and I'm sure it was going on long before that. The best description I ever heard was that it was a weird software glitch, resulting from a prehistoric server that never got upgraded. How true that is I can't say.

But it reminds me of Mark Twain's remark about geology: "There is something fascinating about science. One gets such wholesale returns of conjecture out of such a trifling investment of fact."

Software glitch is just a way of saying "well no one knows, so that must be it"

Maybe it is, but this-and many other discussions- will continue to go on, because the people with the answers think its hilarious to watch the little ants run around the maze and not say anything.

How many years did it take for Laurel to come out and say she's the only person who looks at the stories?

Then again, if they came out with totally updated rules and Faq section so everything was clear as day, what would we debate here?
