Vintage 40 Prime THREE

Hey all. It was - 9 this morning when I went out to feed the horses. Felt like a good day to stay inside and finish all the holiday baking and candy making for all the company we are having this Christmas. The wife and I got a lot done. 6 different batches of cookies. 2 batches of cashew brittle. A batch of macadamia brittle. 2 batches of almond roka toffee. Christmas Crack candy. Home. Made peppermint patties. Home made almond joy bites. And 2 gumdrop cakes one soaked in amaretto and the other in toasted caramel Black Velvet. :D

Yeah we went through 5 or 10 pounds of sugar, 8 pounds of butter 4 pounds of nuts and about 3 pounds of chocolate. Only have the rice crispy treats and jingle bell jumble treats left to make.

Glad to see you and the wife are doing well. ANd have the Christmas with friends to look forward to together. Somebody is heading for diabetes though. LOL.

OMG!!!! That sounds amazing!!!
I can't make candy or brittle. It just never comes out right. More like pour it over ice cream for topping. Since I basically canceled Christmas with all the moving issues I've only got a couple cranberry coffee cakes to make and that's it. Miss J is gonna road trip with her family to Destin for Christmas so I'm just planning on staying home to unpack more. My new landlady wants me to join them for dinner so I might do that.

I'm at a need another set of hands to shift and move stuff to unpack the bigger stuff more.

Merry Christmas everyone as you wander around

Well we don't eat it all. Most of it goes in tins or plates for our guests to take home LOL...

Starry you should definitely go over for dinner. No one should spend Christmas alone. Glad that you have the new place now!

Not my first or last Christmas alone. Holidays alone are really no big deal anymore. I usually grab a hungry man frozen dinner for extra food, watch a parade on TV and then paint / work the rest of the day. This year is try to unpack some more.

On those occasions when alone for the holidays, I would pull out and watch an old classic holiday movie, most often "It's a Wonderful Life" or the original "The Bishop's Wife" with Cary Grant, Loretta Young, and David Niven . . . always seemed to raise the spirit. :)

Evening all...hoping all had a good day...starrynightin64 I heading to Island Way for Xmas Eve.:rose:

Last year Miss J and I went out to The Hurricane at Pass - a-grille Beach for Christmas Day brunch. That was an awesome eat. I thought about going there by myself again cause it was so good.

I may have to pull out my DVD if I can find them.
Everything is still packed and in a mess... Or I should say not everything has found its place yet. I still feel like I'm living in a hotel.

Maybe I will watch Bad Santa to celebrate on Christmas day since I will be all by myself and in need of a good laugh.

The curly haired kid that sits on his lap is my cousin's son. I think he has a line even. I haven't seen that movie in years. I hear Badder Santa is pretty good.

One trip to the airport here early this morning to take my WWII Wave.
2 nd trip to the airport later this afternoon to take my PT and her family.
Then home to rest, unpack and bake a few coffee cakes if I'm feeling the call to bake.

Happy Birthday Katy and Merry Christmas ev'er body

Same as it's been for the last 30 years or so: I'm staying home. New Year's Eve is full of amateur and stupid drinkers. Even though there are several FREE rides, people still insist on driving.

Same here. I don't need the hassle of a crowd. Might have a friend and his wife over. The wife and I usually don't make it to midnight anyway.

I fly back from California that evening so will just be settling back into being home and to bed way before midnight. I work the next morning.

I never make it to midnight either so it's pretty much a regular night.
I'm still slowly unpacking so I might pick up a frozen pizza to bake.

Morning all!
Hope everyone had a great Christmas :)
I may try to finish the year out right and go fishing on New Years eve if I can get all my weekend chores done early enough. I doubt I will be going anywhere or staying up late that night.

No special New Year's eve plans up here . . . just a quiet evening at home, maybe watching a movie.

Is there a correlation here with being "Vintage 40 Prime" thread posters and nobody having any plans to go out and party?? :D "Been there, done that", I guess.

Pretty much Investor. Rod I was out the day after Christmas. It was in the 70's here in Texas. The fish are not really interested. Got one strike and that was it.

Well yesterday was PT eval day... Total mixed bag. I've improved my strength over all between the exercises and the moving. The bad area is that the rotator cuff still is weak and the bicep tear still burns when lifting any weight over 1/2 pound.

My PT is thinking it's the move stuff. Even though I'm not doing repeated lifting like in a PT setting, and I'm using things like computer chairs to move heavier boxes so I'm only doing minimum lifting / carrying... Plus once it hurts I take a break usually 30 minutes of unpacking = a couple hours of break. I see the ortho Tuesday and have 2 more sessions next week so I'll find out the next step on this shoulder. It's been 10 long months since surgery.

On a HUGE positive having real insulation and windows is amazing. It was down to 47 degrees here last night and with no heat on it was still 76 here inside the apartment. It is really surreal and still feels like I'm living in a residence suite hotel.

It is nice to know that things are finally going better for you. I have a major clean up to take care of in preparation for a "fire safety inspection" here and it is such a daunting challenge that I will need to psych myself up over several weeks just to begin. To successfully store all of the computer and research paperwork I will need at least two super large storage tubs. My storage system so far has simply been to pile things on the floor but that will not positively impress the people who will regard that as a mere "fire hazard". Luckily I have not done any smoking for several years so stray ashes are not a real problem.
