Venezuela imploding

Nothing in your description, lavished the Venezuelan military with all sorts of goodies (don't we lavish the Military with goodies?), purging it's ranks, military full of non-nationals, ... describes Socialism.

Maduro is just another piece of shit authoritarian dictator. Like Tiny wants here in America. A failure every time it's been tried.

I reckon bellisarius blames his failures on others.

The socialist movement existed before Marx joined it, and IMO would have been better off without the pseudoscientific intellectual substructure Marx gave it.

Ok....

No, it makes it more like something that works well IRL.

Because it's far closer to FDR style social liberalism than the wealth redistribution scams you're a big fan of.

They tax their lower 50%.....unlike us.

The collapse of Venezuela has nothing to do with the Democrats in America. Quit trying to draw that parallel.

Democrats in America are promoting the same ideology, even worse they've racialized it.

I suspect that is not rooted in a sense of military necessity but in national pride, a general feeling that an army is something a country should have.

That's because being able to defend yourself isn't the most unnecessary thing ever like you seem to fantasize it is.

Democrats in America are promoting the same ideology . . .

No, they're not. That's only the Democrats who live in your head.

That's because being able to defend yourself isn't the most unnecessary thing ever like you seem to fantasize it is.

There are certainly situations where it is unnecessary. Costa Rica has managed to safely dispense with an army, and most of Europe could do the same.

Yes they are...it's in their 2016 platform bubba which I've linked to you several times.

They are openly after equitable outcomes and are more than enthusiastic about taking max control over the economy to do it.

You can keep pretending it's still 1935 back when democrats WERE actually liberal and alt-right nazis by your own standards today, but they are democratic socialist now and have been since at least 2016.

Personally I think after O and the (D)'s hosed everyone on HC reforms that's when the left finally quit bullshitting and started marching straight left.

An island maybe, but they still rock a navy/coastguard for the same reason, because duh.

And no, most of Europe couldn't, it would be beyond foolish.

That does not mean they're promoting Bolivarian ideology.

CR is not an island. It's in Central America, north of Panama and south of Nicaragua.

Who's going to attack the UK? France? Germany? Not Russia.

Please give us multiple examples of Democrats doing exactly what you say.

Maybe you haven't heard of AOC and what she proposes.

I have. You have now found one person who has some socialist ideas yet she wants nothing less than our country to become Venezuela.

Are these two prime examples of the new breed of snowflake or what?

My mistake, they should have a military then.

2016 platform is littered with it.

https://democrats.org/about/party-platform/#racial-wealth

I'll pull one example but you'll have to read through the rest of that socialist shit pile to get the rest if you want it.

Racialized socialism.....straight outta the DNC.

Closing the Racial Wealth Gap
America’s economic inequality problem is even more pronounced when it comes to racial and ethnic disparities in wealth and income. It is unacceptable that the median wealth for African Americans and Latino Americans is roughly one-tenth that of white Americans. These disparities are also stark for American Indians and certain Asian American subgroups, and may become even more significant when considering other characteristics such as age, disability status, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

The racial wealth and income gaps are the result of policies that discriminate against people of color and constrain their ability to earn income and build assets to the same extent as other Americans. It has accumulated over time and is made worse by ongoing policies and practices. For example, African Americans and Latinos lost more than half of their net worth as a result of the housing crisis and the Great Recession, because they lost jobs at a much faster rate than white workers and because they were disproportionately targeted for subprime, predatory, and fraudulent mortgages during the run-up to the housing crisis.

Democrats believe it is long past time to close this racial wealth gap. Disparities in wealth cannot be solved by the free market alone, but instead, the federal government must play a role in eliminating systemic barriers to wealth accumulation for different racial groups and improving opportunities for people from all racial and ethnic backgrounds to build wealth. Federal policies must remove barriers to achieving sustainable homeownership, provide for greater diversity in federal and state contracting practices, incentivize and expand access to retirement investment programs, increase opportunities for quality jobs and education, and challenge the deeply rooted structures that perpetuate and exacerbate current disparities and ultimately stagnate the nation’s economic growth and security.

Again, Ellison, Warren and Waters all have openly advocated for nationalizing energy/agriculture sectors and Warren actually put up legislation that would nationalize corporations worth more than a billion bucks in her "accountable capitalism act".

There is more, do you really need me to link it?

Or do you just want to keep pretending wealth redistribution for the sake of equity and advocating government control over the economy to pay for it isn't socialism??

That's what Kirk does....he's still pretending the DNC is the liberal DNC of 1935....that effectively died with JFK, 56 years ago.

Same reason you should have a weapon and a condom on you at all times.

Better to have one and not need it than to need it and not have one.

Better to need a weapon and not have one. You'll avoid escalation that way.

That's how dumb shit hippies go missing all over all the time.

Besides why avoid escalation??

In a bad situation that's the fastest way to safety.

Her pogrom of the energy industry, and the country, would take about a decade.

Good riddance to Maduro.

1. Yeah, failures of socialism.

2. low oil prices.

But how has Cuba lasted so long?

Maybe it's even more socialist.
:D

The people respected Castro because he was the first Cuban leader ever to stand up to the United States and make it stick.

Soviet aid kinda helped, but yeah, he toughed it out.

Granada might offer a lesson here: Maurice Bishop was more popular than the guy who overthrew him.

I used to think of her as a Björk, though I regard her more like a Sinead O'Connor.

The weird thing is that it's been at least 10 years since I've meet—to my knowledge—a Mexican.

Yet another "Socialist Paradise" bites the dust.

It appears that the Socialists are finally going to be run out of Venezuela after turning what should have been the crown jewel of S. America into a shit hole.

The only question remaining is are we going to have to deploy any troops there after the Maduro regime falls? Maduro, like Chavez before him, lavished the Venezuelan military with all sorts of goodies while at the same time purging it's ranks of all but the 'true believers.' Further a good portion of the Venezuelan military are in reality Cubans. Why? Cuba is heavily dependent on Venezuelan subsidies. The Cuban government has a highly motivated vested interest in keeping socialists in power. A regime change in Venezuela means no more subsidies for Cuba and no place for the Cuban 'advisors.' In other words the collapse of the Maduro regime hasten the collapse of the Cuban regime.

Should Cuba decide to deploy troops to prop up the Maduro regime you can expect the US to deploy to make certain Maduro and his cronies fall.

After the fall of the Maduro regime it's going to take years of humanitarian aid to undo the damage that socialism has done to Venezuela.

Socialism, a failure every time it's been tried.

I'm thinking that a large portion of the US still wants to 'lead from behind.' If Trump does nothing, he will be blamed for the humanitarian disaster. If Trump does send in troops, the consternation will be palpable...

They don't need aid, the countries around them do, but if they turn back to Capitalism and to the evil, exploiting and ecologically terroristic Oil Companies, there will be revenue for all, including the people. That which the Progressive Left would dismiss as "trickle-down" economics.

(Trickle-down not being a valid economic term, but rather a Socialist political pejorative. The same sort of thing that gave us the People's Paradise of Venezuela. Under Socialism, even more so than Capitalism, all wealth remains at the top and the rest of the people truly live in the squalor of absolute equality and as long as the Praetorian Guard is paid, and paid well, the leadership sleeps secure behind walls and guns [while at once proclaiming that gun ownership is bad for those rendered equal by the rule of man].)

I don't think Trump wants to engage in any military endeavor in Venezuela but events may over take him there. I would prefer, and I'm sure he would to, to see some SA nations step up and handle that. Unfortunately there are few SA military forces that aren't corrupt to their core and likely to cause more problems than be a cure and the few that aren't corrupt are busy with their own problems.

What are we going to do when China moves to protect its investments in the Socialist ownership of the oil reserves?

If they could make a deal, a naval base to protect Maduro, we'd have another Syria on our hands where Russia is protecting its investments...

Nice to see so many countries taking a diplomatic stand against Maduro. It’s a start.
