Vanilla ??

Uh huh. Calling your "vanilla" partner "boring" isn't looking down on him at all.

I didn't mean it to come across like that. What I meant was that he was a very good lover, but it got to the point where I didn't enjoy it cause it was the same old routine every night. If he had been with a woman less interested in variety, I'm sure she wouldn't have bored. It was, however, boring for ME. It wasn't really HIS problem, it was MINE.

Ahh, but then, that begs the comment,

that even kinky sex can be "bland" as well!

if you always do the same things even if kinky it becomes boring over time..

Thanks for the link Nora - when I'm in Austin next weekend I'll try to get there!

WOOHOO! Belgian Chocolate with reese's cups are good, too. :D

Mischka, I love sweet cream with strawberries, too! :)

I find the term to be used as a device to make people feel better about their own choices. As in, "I used to be vanilla *sneers*, but now that I get to have 40lb anvils stretched from my nipples, I'm a much better and more rounded person!"

Afterall, it's only negative and insulting if it's directed towards your own in-group.

Vanilla is simply a politely derogatory way of saying "You're too square."

Cheyenne might just be my conscience at times.

I use the word to describe my ex. He's a great guy, and still my best friend - but unadventurous.

I'll join the group who says it isn't just non-BDSM sex, but non-kinky sex... boy, I can't articulate tonight, I'm shutting up now.

Sex? You are definitely one of a kind! If there were two of you, I'd be twice as worn out! <grin>

When people use this term describing lifestyle what comes to mind? Is this term only used by those in the BDSM realm to describe those that aren't? What does it mean to you?

Just curious.

It's the stuff I use when baking.

Oh, and some ice cream is flavored like it.

For the record,

I like Cheyenne.

I like modest mouse.

But, I will go sit in the corner with short sighted and stupid people ;)

Granted, my use of the word is definitely not ever intended to be derrogatory or disrespectful and is only used on the "other" forum to quickly describe some differences in my life in the last couple of years.

I think that from now on I'll simply just follow along behind you saying, yep what she said.

I have never used the term vanilla as an insult, it's just an easier way to explain my own sexual preferences without getting into details.

Yes, yes, yes. But do you BAKE with it?

I want to equate either vanilla and generic or vanilla and non-controversial. Just my opinion. AA

I've had generic ice cream. Not a wise decision.

"Non-contoversial" could make it as a brand name, I suspect.
