Valentine's Day Story Contest 2009 Reminder and Support Thread

I was surprised to see how fast mine was posted as well; my BDSM Valentine story is up today.

It's doing as poorly as expected, 3.50 with 2 votes so far. Maybe I'll get the worst story award. lol

There's lots up on there! It's early days yet, plenty of time for you to rack up the votes. I'll be having a good old read later on myself when the kidlets are in bed :D

There's no such thing as "the worst story award". There is the Authors' Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest run during each themed Literotica Contest.

The winners of the Last Place (tm) Contest are stories which for one reason or another are unpopular with the voters. They are often very good stories that have been overlooked...

Well, my story is WAY in contention for a Last Place (tm) Contest "hat trick" - lowest score, worst story (for real) and most comments from scouries Alts. :D

Well, as off base as I feel the "official commenter" for this contest is ( If the "It can't be hot because Valentine's Day is in Winter" comment is the kicker of the bunch *chuckle* ) at least he/she is voting and commenting -- and appears to at least be reading the stories before ripping most of them apart.

Nose in the air, and has a bar that's ridiculously high and self-centered for the theme, but not quite a troll, from what I see. Some of the comments may be worth sifting through for nuggets of gold, so try to keep that in mind when he/she spits on you in the process of delivering the review.

Still think he/she is an ass, though :D

Knock on wood, (lol) he/she has been kind to me, albeit still critical. I agree with you that at least he/she is a step up from being a troll. At least the comments made are constructive and much better than someone writing, "You're story sucked and you suck, too" (lol).

Almost Makes me want to send mine in anyway :)

So - who is that little schmuck going around leaving nasty little comments for everyone to get monkey wrenched by.....? Scouries? maybe not... Seems to me I see a tone and a whine that matches one certain other persons perception of being persecuted in contests.................But thats just my supposition -
I'll be nice though - as was just pointed out maybe just maybe there might be a nugget or two buried under the sarcastic vitriol being spewed.

I have read most of whats there - I am waiting to read Postive Thinkers as its pretty long for Lit Standards and I have an appointment this morning.

So far most of the stories are on track for at least the sex part :) and Yes the VD part : a little romance, a little bittersweet remembrances, and a little hope for tomorrow :)
Isn't that exactly what Valentines is about? Loves Labour Lost, and Gained?
Forget the commercial hyperbole.... but love in all its forms are the key note of Valentines... including lust LOL

I am enjoying them - just wish I had the hormones to enjoy them more LOLOL...without that distraction I can simply read them for the stories they are instead of whether or not they "turn me hawt!"...Never was as criterion of mine - an added bonus of course - but not what motivates me to keep reading.

Good Luck Everyone.....

I am terrible with "................." lololol

Actually, thank you for noticing my story. Originally, I had submitted the story to the Novel category, as it is in excess of 10,000 words. It's a bit odd that my anonymous poster made the same comment. It makes me wonder if he/she has some inside information that is unavailable to the rest of us. Notwithstanding that, I appreciate his/her comments. So many readers don't give a care to vote never mind make a comment. Perhaps, because his/her comments haven't singled me out as he/she has done with other stories, I find the comments helpful rather than annoying and offensive. I've read much worse and insensitive comments on these boards that what this poster is leaving.

ALL RIGHT! I just checked and I now have two "50%"s and a new and wonderfully inane comment from scouries (something about he wishes he was a cheerleader???).

I can't wait to see which Alt he is going to use next! :D

Well, I wasn't sure I was going to have time to write a story for this contest, but I just submitted it. I really struggled with this one. I'm definitely not feeling the spirit of the impending holiday. I just could not think of an idea. I kept trying to think of something unique and romantic..

Then, I decided that my story is going to have to reflect how I feel. It probably won't be very popular, but I'd rather be true to myself than try to force something in hopes of winning.

When I get a chance, I'll have to start going through the contest entries. I'm sure there are some good ones as always!

:rose:

My totals before the big vacumn comes along. I also want to thank the a/h er's for reading my story. I can't remember the last time I saw so many comments from them. Much appreciated.
with respect

Is there a full moon? I just received a comment from HH Dumbass, someone who's never posted a story here, unless he's someone's sock puppet, and suddenly, he's the Literary critic for the New Yorker.

My opinion is this. Everyone has a different writing style. Everyone writes at a different level. Writing is a life long apprenticeship and it's something that you must love to devote the time and hard work that it takes to write a story. Whatever the style and whatever the level, we all need to respect the effort and the desire to pour one's heart out and to share their work.

I don't understand these types who are so unappreciative or who just want to start trouble by posting derrogatory comments to someone's work. Of course the mature thing to do is to ignore the basher, yet sometimes it just feels good to respond to them.

I can't imagine someone being so miserable to take the time to write mean and nasty comments. Where does that desire come from? Instead, they should do something positive. They should write a story...and then kill themselves (lol). Just kidding...about them writing a story.

Don't take it to heart. You're new to this - look at these comments as a good thing - while ever they're commenting on our stories, they're not out annoying the general public and getting into fights in bars.

Hey, at least he was literate ;)

I failed. They gave me a 75%. :(

3.85 is even lower than my last Last Place winner though. :)

Thanks Starrkers, you're a doll.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I wrote my post this morning on only half a cup of coffee. lol. I was also being facetious...

I got a [sarcasm] wonderful [/sarcasm] comment from "Anonymous" calling my story "interchangeable" and demanding to know whether I'd just change the Valentine's Day references to Christmas for the winter holiday contest. I don't usually leave comments on my own stories, but I left a very sarcastic response to his just because I felt like it. (Of course, being me I screwed something up and posted it twice...)

Good luck to positive thinker your story was my fav so far and im glad it was written by a poster on this board

Ah... doesn't it suck when real life gets in the way of writing? Good luck with your story, either way :)

thanks yeah... my university seems to have this strange idea of that my thesis is actually more important than my stories... and even my parents go along with this weird stuff, by telling me i should graduate rather than do whatever i am doing (as i don't tell them about lit)...

well, i am still working on it every now and then though. should i not get done in time i guess i will keep it to next year.

ha Ha HA, manyeyedhydra! I LAUGH at your paltry 3.85 for I shall be the Queen of the Last Place (tm) Contest with my 3.52 (guess there aren't enough lesbian cheerleader fans out there!). :D

I also posted a second "serious" story today. Now lets see if anybody notices that it's a lesbian story, but without the actual second lesbian (it DOES take two, BTW)

A Succubus for Valentine's Day is a great story im amazed it has only 3.85. All i can think of is that you dont have enough votes to counter the trolls yet.

IMHO too many people come here looking for porn and dont apreciate the many great writers who do post. You story was deep and emotional and i think captured a narrative you dont get in the average story here.

But then i love stories that have a moral at the end :)

I'm saving the contest stories to read on Friday; I have the day off, but my kids will be at school. Unfortunately I don't have time to read Lit stories most days, because my kids are always around. (My teen goes to bed an hour later than I do...)

I'm spending the weekend at a hotel with my boyfriend; maybe I can persuade him to bring his laptop so we can read some of the stories there too.

Join the club. You should read some of the nasty comments posted to my story. By the way, your story was hardly interchangeable. Also, when comments are that off the wall, I'd just ignore them. If only I could take my own advice, though.

Heh heh.

Thanks.

The score doesn't surprise me too much. Stories with unhappy endings rarely score well and I intended it as more of an anti-valentine's story anyway :)

The fun of the contests is getting people to read stories in categories they wouldn't normally venture (especially if they don't check the category first) :D
