Valentine's Day Story Contest 2009 Reminder and Support Thread

Aww that's bad :( I almost have enough votes but don't think I'll be a winner, it has been great fun though!

I'm just wondering how on earth to reply to an anon comment that I want to answer LOL. I wish you could block anon comments, I thought that there was a way but I misread something, I appreciate the comments but would like to be able to answer them *sigh*.

Somebody bound and determined to be the arbitrator of what is "on theme" it seems.

Every story I look at has one comment where the author has "failed the readers" by "telling and not showing" that it is a Valentine's story, and votes 50%.

I've only had a chance to read one so far ( started looking through the comments when I saw two nearly identical commentaries ), but I have to say that the commenter seems to have an awful high bar. The theme came up regularly through the whole story, and is the spark of the whole plot.

It wasn't romance, hearts, chocolate, flowers, and cupids beaten to death every three seconds, but it was certainly a Vday story. I imagine that I'll get the same treatment once I finally finish mine :D

Anonymous feedback by email can be blocked, but not anonymous Public Comments.

Unless I get hit by a lightning bolt in the very near future, I got nothing this time around. And I really like the Valentine's contest too *pout*

I dont like anon feedback either but i much prefer it to people creating more alts just so that they can talk freely.

Also thanks everyone for the positive feed back and good scores so far

Munachi, you have till February 5 to submit it. The contest opens Tuesday but doesn't close till the 5th.

i know. but that's just two more weeks... i tend to need a lot longer than that to write a story, this one isn't even half done and i started ages ago, and currently i just have so much to do. unfortunately i don't get around to writing that often... i will still try to get it done in time, but as things are currently going, i doubt that i will manage...

Ah... doesn't it suck when real life gets in the way of writing? Good luck with your story, either way :)

I kinda like it! I just had scouries' alt Gabby call me 'Selena'. That was a pretty damn nice compliment! :D

I was kind of insulted when he/she/it said that I was a Republican though...

Hee hee. I'm curious to see what happens when they hit mine.

Nearly done. Having to chop it down from 9,000 words.

Ooo, yes. Definite troll. Just flicked through the comments (I'll read the stories properly when I've finally got mine finished).

Wish I'd got mine ready for the first day now.

Now time to put on the bait and cast out the line...

We'll see, though. I think romance is the key to what this commenter considers "on theme", and mine trends that way, if in a whirlwind, thrust together after chance encounters sort of way. Still not sure if it's going to drop off with the emotional/sexual connection, or if I'm going to Happily Ever After it.

I should do the latter, just as a stronger indicator of my guess about our theme monitor, except Steve and Tracy haven't told me that part yet *laugh*

Just read today's submissions for the contest and was very impressed. There are some very good stories. My goal is to read all of the contest entries this year. I need to read more so I can improve on my writing.

I did notice that someone who seems to absolutely LOVE PositiveThinker has decided that every other story posted today has nothing to really do with Valentine's Day. I find it interesting because in terms of the theme of Valentine's Day, I thought every story did that well.

Any thoughts?

They're all hitting theme for me. I haven't read Positive Thinker's all the way through yet. I just blinked through it because the arbitrator gave it a checkmark.

From what I can tell, it has about the same amount of connection as everything else I've read.

My guess is a fan who's cheerleading. One that probably doesn't realize that doing so is likely to draw the wrath of the Lit Hoover down on him/her, eliminating the all the 50% and the 100% as well.

Bwahahaha! :D I'm starting out with the lowest score I've ever had on a story. Just as I figured would happen. Last place is mine, do you hear, mine! ;)

Thanks to Impressive and Princess Erin for their votes and nice comments. Two roses among the thorns.:kiss:

See for yourselves if it's really that bad: http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=402912

I was going to say something similar until I saw that comment!

Last Valentines Day it was pretty good swimming weather here; this year looks to be hotter.

I just want to thank the other authors who took the time to read and leave a comment on my story. I'll do my best to read yours also. Hard to believe I had so many votes the first day. (even though some were low LOL)

I never expect to win but have fun participating and like the quick posting.

You call that low? *laugh* You're starting out somewhere around .10-.40 higher than any of my recent outings, and not much off of post-sweep totals.

Haven't read yours yet, but I'll get to it. Grew up near Amish territory, so I'll have a frame of reference.

Thanks Dark, we've been around for awhile and know what to expect. I just have fun being part of the contests. Vote total is now up to 308. Good luck to you in the contest. I wish you the best.

I have to finish the damn thing first *laugh*

I've managed to confine these two and get them into the tension and uncertainty phase. Just need to narrow their range of escape a little more, let nature take over, and find out where they want the story to end.

Yeah I noticed that the same commenter was going around complaining about the stories I read not being 'Valentine's Day' enough. Although each one I have read has stuck to the theme pretty well. If we constantly threw in 'today is Valentine's day!' then no doubt someone would have complained we were boring them and being repetitive ;)

Ah well, I am pleased with what I turned out and with majority of the comments so I'm happy.

I've read most of the other submissions and have to say that I think everybody has done well! I've voted on them all but not neccesarily commented as I had a sleepy, ill toddler on my knee so typing was a pain at times.

So what's the Lit Hoover?

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read mine and comment.

You're doing well! Mine has 94 votes, which I thought was pretty good as a couple of my other stories don't have that many hehe. Still I guess that the Contest draws more voters? It's my first time so it's all new to me :D

I was surprised to see how fast mine was posted as well; my BDSM Valentine story is up today.

It's doing as poorly as expected, 3.50 with 2 votes so far. Maybe I'll get the worst story award. lol

Mine's up. Link in sig. Now to catch up with reading the stories that posted today. :)
