US Admirals, South African Farmers and a Moron

The Episcopal Church of the United States ended a 65 year agreement with the Federal government today. It provided relocation services and occasional financial assistance to immigrants.

The organization stated its reason to terminate the contract was because their church doctrine has always been strongly opposed to apartheid, but only on the continent of Africa.....

(last summer the Episcopal church council of bishops approved a platform that condemned both Hamas for invading Israel AND Israel for it's "ethnic cleansing" reprisal, but defeated by a voice vote a resolution condemning Israel's conduct as tantamount to apartheid, because, you know, "apartheid" is such an emotionally loaded word and Israelis have fee-fees).

The people no longer have to live in terror of their own government. That is an improvement.
Yet. Crime rate is off the charts. GDP per capita peaked in 2011 and has trended down ever since. The SA Air Force and Navy are jokes, and the majority of the Armies equipment is in end life operational states. Most whites and coloreds (mostly East Indians) live in private compounds with private security.

South Africa has issues that all countries have to deal with after decades of apartheid.

You focus on one thing and assign the cause to it. I don't Simple mindedness based on prejudice/racism is willfully ignorant.

One party rule over any extended period of time leads to corruption. Hopefully they can oust the sons of bitches before the damage is irreparable. (Look at New York, Ill., CA., and the others including some red states.)

LOL. Culture!

Depends where you were. I was there 15 years ago, my dad's house was in a secure compound. Armed guards, walls, patrols with guard dogs, razor wire. Inside was secure as. Muckleneuk, in Pretoria, where I stayed a lot of the time, was an older suburb and every house had security walls/fences, razor wire, security grills on the windows and doors, hooked in to 24 hour armed response. A few familes I knew had guard dogs as well. It was safe enough to walk around during the day, but no way at night. Under apartheid, no security, no steel grills, no razor wire, no-one there even locked their doors. The law was blacks had to leave the white suburbs before sunset I think it was.

What changed? LOL. No-one needed to ask.

Basically you have a primitive third world culture and a first world culture side by side and the two do not co-exist happily. With the end of apartheid, the third world has been dragging the first world down into it's quagmire of lawlessness, crime and corruption. Everything is stolen or looted unless it's guarded. Infrastructure is slowly deteriorating and collapsing. Black africans pay lip services to civilization, without understanding the processes and the culture that is needed to maintain civilization - and so civilization is dragged down and slowly destroyed. What is left is there despite them, and the sad fact is, you cannot change the underlying culture easily. Detrout, Atlanta, New Orleans, Chicago, and other US cities all bear witness to that.

It's nothing to do with apartheid. Apartheid showed what a well-run (reasonably anyhow) African country could achieve when black African culture was removed from the equation - but even there, the black-run homelands were complete failures. The school system for blacks under apartheid was the best in Africa and qualifications were actually genuine - because it was run by whites who insisted on standards - and now, it's a complete failure and any qualifications aren't worth the paper they're printed on. A good indicator too is the military - a complete joke.

The SAF has Grippens - one of the easiest aircraft in the world to maintain and none are flying these days. They've run a submarine into the ocean floor, lost a submarine commander off the deck, the SA Army were overrun in the Congo by a bunch of guerillas, admittedly backed by Tutsi's from Rwanda, the list just goes on and on and on. Eskom has brownouts all the time. Now they're intent on destroying the white-owned farms, and the outcome of that will be famine. And likely civil war in the end. Nah, South Africa is turning into another African failed state. And all they needed to do was let the whites continue to run things.....but no, the evidence from every country north of South Africa was ignored.....

You want to know how to make an Episcopalian look at his shoes?

Mention Jesus.

What is the land ownership ratio by race currently? What was it before apartheid was ended?

You can't tell me that statistic alone doesn't show lasting effects of apartheid.

An Epicopalian is a Presbyterian with a trust fund.

A Presbyterian is a Methodist with a college education.

And a Methodist is a Baptist with shoes.

Actually that is more historical and related to the early settlement of the country. In the Xhosa homeland, pretty mich all the land is owned by Xhosa. There is some white-owed land, and the old homeland borders were jigged to keep the white-owned land umder white rule, but that was minor. Most of the land there was Xhosa before and remained Xhosa after. Same in KwaZulu Natal. There were and are white owned farms but a good part of the province is Zulu owned and farmed - we drove thru mile after mile of Zuly kraals when we were there.

The big white-owned farms are across the Little and the Great Karoo (empty land when the Boers trekked there), the Orange Free State and the Transvaal - also empty. The reasons the Boer settled there were precisely because it was empty land with no inhabitants. The Zulu impis had killed most of thse who formerly lived there and driven them away - the Matabele north into Zimbabwe and the Tswana west into what is now Botswana. The Swazi and Sotho retreated into what is now Swaziland and Lesotho. The white owned land has nothing to do with apartheid and everything to do with those early settlements. The Zulu and Xhosa could not survive using their traditional farming and grazing methods in the arid grasslands of the Transvaal,OFS and the Karoo - and the Cape was colonized by the Dutch long before the Bantu made it that far south. The Dutch and the Bantu actually arrived in South Africa at more or less the same time.

The simple fact is, the arid lands that the whites farm are unfarmable by the blacks in SA. They lack the culture to make a success of it, even with education and assistance. The white farms and farming methods are high-tech, required education and hard work to make viable, and where they have been handed over to blacks, they generally revert to arid grassland within a few years, as they have already in Zimbabwe.

Apartheid? Nie. It's all about Culture.

Apartheid was an attempt to create a viable way for whites and blacks to co-exist without deterimentally impacting each other. In hindsight, it was too little too late - South Africa should have created more Lesothos - cut KwaZulu loose, created an independant Xhosa state, xferred the Sotho areas of South Africa to Lesotho and the Tswana to Botswana, and they should have done this immediately post WW2. Too late now, but that might have worked. Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana are all stable states. KwaZulu and whatever they called the Xhosa state probably would have been too, and without the negativity of apartheid and the milliions of third worlders, South Africa could well have remained a viable first world state ensuring regional wealth abd stability thru employment of migrant workers.

Ah well, what we have instead is a mess that will only get worse and worse, until South Africa goes the way of Zim. Xim's safety vale was that millions of refugees fled to South Africa. There is nowhere for black South Africas to flee to when the chaos they have chosen engulfs them.

It's about ownership of land. When people don't own their own shit, they react. And apartheid was a huge part of that....after colonization.

Had SA done that, Tswana and Botswana would have invaded and conquered SA within a decade, slaughtering everything and everyone as they did.

At which point SA would have reverted to the empty grasslands, tribal warfare, poverty, and disease like it had been in the past.

Electricity doesn't work, water doesn't work, crime is through the roof, the armed forces are hollow remnants, in other words the infrastructure is crumbling. Teachers in the 'townships' obtain their position by purchase, not be merit or even minimum qualification.

What did the ANC spend the nations treasure on?
