Unecessary Retirement

And?

I'm not saying Jolie is a bad actress, but I don't see her as particularly memorable.

Most associate her as "Brangelena" and a fixation of the TMZ dimwits.

And I love how she announces it before hand so people will rush to see the movie and help it make more money.

She'll be back.

I tend to agree. Why would she even announce it in the first place? She could simply just stop working and fade away, if she wanted out...

Nail on the head with the "fade away" she will now be grabbing headlines for months. She's an attention whore and always will be.

I believe this is her last movie the way I believed ever Kiss "farewell tour"

Her humanitarian work trumps her acting career, I'm amazed she finds the time to make movies at all...

Actors do this all the time and no one particularly rags on them for it. Chris Evans, who has played Captain America in the Marvel movies, said months ago that when his contract with Marvel is up, he will retire from acting and move to directing. He seems to appreciate what the CA role has done for him, but it's also limited his involvement with other projects and he apparently wants to expand that. Can't blame him.

But no one is slamming him as an attention whore, even though this move won't take place for years.

When I googled "Angelina Jolie retirement," nearly every result turned up said that she had "confirmed" that this would happen during an interview with a magazine. That is not the same as "announcing." Obviously other news outlets picked this up and ran with it, but that's different.

I'm sure she was careful in saying what she did -- she seems to understand how to work the media as well as work with it -- but that doesn't mean this was all calculated to draw people to the movie. I imagine it may increase the turnout a bit, but probably not by much.

If you don't like Jolie, fine, no problem, but calling her an "attention whore" after slamming this site's attitude towards women and their treatment is a bit hypocritical.

An attention whore can be male or female its not a derogatory term aimed at females specifically Scouries is an attention whore in lit terms.

Jolie will shove her face in front of every camera anywhere near her, she's certainly not alone and its part of her career.

My simple point is....who cares? Again her professional career isn't iconic in any way, like everyone else she's done some good movies and some duds, but she's not "timeless" in any way.

Answering a question in an interview is how interviews work; answering them doesn't make anyone an attention whore. Nor does the fact that once the news is out, other news outlets slap a headline and a URL on it.

I don't care what she does, whether she acts or directs or runs a car wash. I am interested, personally, in the film industry so I follow some things about it. But I didn't know about this until I saw it here.

Your reactions seem a little out of proportion for someone who professes not to care. And yes, attention whore *is* derogatory, no matter who it's aimed at.

You're suggesting that LC's reactions to anything are out of proportion to the issue? :D

Do tell.

I didn't call her that, and I do like her.

However her activities as an actress have been sporadic at best during the last few years, so people who don't watch Disney movies probably thought she had retired already. Regardless of how one might feel about her, this smells like a publicity stunt for the movie.

Paradoxically what Chris Evan does is of way less interest than Angelina Jolie's plans. He might have a high profile at the moment, but he is essentially nothing more than a run-of-the-mill Hollywood pretty-boy, of which there are thousands waiting in the wings for a shot at fame and fortune. It will be a lot easier to replace Cap than IronMan or Thor for instance.

Sorry, I know you didn't. Should have specified there, my bad.

I'm not saying it isn't, and let's be honest, if someone's going to ask that question of her, someone had to leak the possibiilty or whatever. But whether it's meant to drum up business or not, there's nothing terribly extraordinary in what she's saying or doing. And since she seems to direct decent movies, perhaps this is good all around. Hollywood could use more female directors and she's got the clout that a lot of women don't.

Probably. He was great in "Snowpiercer," though.

A more general definition;

Debase oneself by doing something for unworthy motives, typically to make money:
‘he had never whored after money’
