UK police: 'a number of fatalities' at Grande concert

LONDON (AP) — Several people have died following reports of an explosion Monday night at an Ariana Grande concert in northern England, police said. A representative said the singer was not injured.

There were no immediate details of what happened during the concert by the American singer, but police advised the public to avoid the area around the Manchester Arena.

As concertgoers left the Ariana Grande concert in the U.K.’s Manchester Arena on Monday night, their happiness quickly turned to terror as a loud noise echoed throughout the venue.

In a statement, Manchester police said 19 people were killed and approximately 50 others were injured. British Transport Police said the explosion was reported in the venue’s foyer about 10:30 p.m. local time.

An exact cause was not immediately clear, though Manchester police said they were investigating possible terrorism.

Musicians and celebrities from around the world expressed their condolences to Grande and the concertgoers inside Manchester Arena.

“My prayers go out to ppl of Manchester… Had special times there from youth & beyond,” Cher tweeted.

“Praying for everyone at @ArianaGrande’s show,” Katy Perry wrote on Twitter.

“Tearing up imagining innocent concert goers losing their lives.. praying for everyone and all #arianators,” Demi Lovato tweeted.

I guess the knee- jerk reflex would be to wonder: "Was it ISIS?"

What gets me is that this is a concert where most people were young teen girls.
And the bomb was apparently packed with nails and bolts (according to eyewitnesses and emergency dept staff at the main hospital dealing with casualties.)
