Farage warns council staff to look for other jobs after Reform takes control of Durham

Nigel Farage has warned council staff to look for other jobs after Reform took control of Durham. The Reform leader had a message for anyone working in a host of roles for Durham council, which his party is now in control of. Speaking at a victory rally in Durham on Friday (2 May), Mr Farage said: “These include those with working on climate change, diversity initiatives or even just from home. “You all better be seeking alternative careers very, very quickly.”

Local election results live: Reform wins spate of councils as Farage gloats that Tories are ‘finished’

Nigel Farage’s Reform has taken control of ten councils, just hours after dramatically beating Labour in a by-election for Runcorn and Helsby. All 23 councils have been announced, with Reform winning 10, the Liberal Democrats three, and another 10 now under no overall control.

Reform won in Lincolnshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Kent, North Northamptonshire, West Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire councils, which were all previously Tory-run. It took control of Durham and Doncaster councils, where Labour was previously the biggest party. Reform also won two mayoral elections. Former Conservative minister Dame Andrea Jenkyns became the first Greater Lincolnshire mayor while former boxer and Olympic medallist Luke Campbell won in Hull and East Yorkshire.

Reform and Farage making some real inroads here in the UK local elections. Capturing control from both the Conservatives AND Labour. The local council victories come after Reform’s Sarah Pochin won the Runcorn and Helsby seat, overcoming a Labour majority of more than 14,000 a year ago.

Speaking of the Conservatives, Mr Farage told new councillors in Staffordshire: “They are over, they are finished, they have literally been gutted in these counties, it is a position from which they will never, ever recover.” A night of capitulation for the Tories saw them lose all 15 councils which they previously had control of.

Across the local councils the BBC reports that Reform has gained 677 councillors, the Lib Dems 163 and the Greens 45. The Conservatives have lost 676, Labour 186.

Labour in shock, Tories lose every council they defended - and Farage in control of some of England's biggest authorities

Nigel Farage sent shockwaves through the political establishment yesterday. In a stunning breakthrough, Reform seized control of a string of major councils across the country – and inflicted a humiliating defeat on Labour in a by-election in the previously safe seat of Runcorn and Helsby. Mr Farage last night hailed his party's performance as a 'Reform-quake' and claimed it signalled 'the end of two-party politics'.

He said Reform had had 'the Labour Party for lunch' and 'wiped out' the Conservatives in parts of England. Mr Farage said the results marked 'the beginning of the end' for the Conservative Party, with Reform now 'the main opposition party' despite having just five MPs. Projections suggested the results would put Mr Farage on course to be Prime Minister if they were repeated at a General Election.

Polling expert Professor Sir John Curtice said: 'The big question we were asking ourselves was: Are Reform posing a major challenge to the traditional dominance of British politics by Conservatives and Labour? 'Is that challenge really there? And I think we now know that the answer to that question is yes.'

🙄

That ^ petty, vindictive, provocative, inflammatory type of behavior will definitely help…"something"…

😑

Also:

It’s becoming more and more apparent that MAGAts worldwide are determined to provoke / elicit an act of violence from some marginalized group or individual by pushing things past any reasonable limit.

🤬

Of course, the "elite" MAGAts will have their security forces and safe spaces when something pops off, and then they will use the unrest they provoked as a justification for enacting martial law, etc - enforced by the well funded police and military, of course.

🤬

Meanwhile, the common MAGAts and decent individuals alike will suffer the REAL consequences.

🤬

We. Told. Them. So.

Reform is not going to supplant the Tories. Reform is never even going to win more seats in the Commons than UKIP or the BNP ever did.

Reform now has 5 seats in the commons.

UKIP briefly had one in the early 2000s, a defecting Tory.

The bnp never had any.

People vote out tories and vote in Labour
Starmer decides what people want is MORE TORY!
People vote against Labour
Starmer decides it's because people want EVEN MORE TORY!!!

🤨

What ever happen to Corbyn?

There should at least be a socialist option on the ballot!

Everything I'm reading is forecasting that Reform will win the next General Election. Be amazing if Farage ends up as Prime Minister. The guy's a political cat with 9 lives. LOL. He started out wanting the UK out of the EU and that was all, Brexit won, he dropped out of politics, and pretty much got pulled back in, the UK Conservarives went Left, the Labour Party went lefter and Reform and Farage are the result - a true Conservative-Centrist political party - and Farage is a sensible guy. If anyone can pull the UK back from the abyss with popular support, it's him.

Good luck, Nigel.

Nigel Farage says Reform-run councils won't accept migrants and promises Trump-style cuts and an end to WFH - as he says two-party politics 'is finished'

In a speech in County Durham, where Reform replaced Labour, who were at the helm for almost 100 years, the Reform Leader said his party would 'resist' housing asylum seekers in their local authorities. He claimed migrants were being 'dumped into the north of England, [and] getting everything for free,' before adding: 'It is unfair, it is irresponsible, it is wrong in every way and I don't believe Starmer has got the guts to deal with it.'

Now, Farage, 61, whose party caused a political earthquake as they nabbed hundreds of local seats across the nation yesterday, and gained control of ten councils, has issued a stark warning for certain council roles in Durham. The controversial political figure told workers, where Labour was previously the biggest party, to seek 'alternative careers very, very quickly,' if they were in roles relating to climate change, diversity or if they worked from home. It comes as the 'Reform-quake' saw the Tories lose every council - 676 seats in total - as it found itself squeezed between Reform UK and the Liberal Democrats, while Labour saw 186 seats slip away. The jubilant Reform party now runs a swath of big authorities for the first time - securing majorities on Kent, Staffordshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lancashire county councils after a Conservative collapse.

Farage recalled that people had mocked him for saying he would be the next PM, adding: 'They're not laughing now, are they?' When queried about his party's priorities, Farage told Today on BBC Radio 4: 'We are deeply dissatisfied with the way that county councils and unitaries in Britain have been running their budgets. 'We look at the millions a year being spent, in many cases, on consultants. We look at the money being spent on climate change; on areas that county councils, frankly, shouldn't even be getting involved in.' He promised to bring in auditors to assess long-term contracts as well as to introduce a 'change of culture'by putting an end to working from home, adding: 'That won't be a magic wand, it won't solve every problem, but it will be a good start.'

Farage and his party made several Freedom of Information requests, where they discovered councils were spending money on several things like free driving lessons for asylum seekers and trips to the South of France for civil servants. According to The Times, one council was dishing out a £1,000-a-day on a pothole consultant, as well as spending on diversity officers and net-zero schemes. A projected national vote share from the local election results put Reform on 30 per cent, ahead of Labour on 20 per cent, the Liberal Democrats on 17 per cent, and Tories on 15 per cent.

Nigel Farage “The Brexit Imbecile” has the support of the UK’s ardent morons. 😆

BritMAGAs: “Brexit was a bloody disaster for the UK, so we are voting for Reform Party Brexit idiots. Because we’re dumb, if that wasn’t clear.” 👍

But everybody in the UK now seems to agree Brexit was highly regrettable. Worst mistake since Cromwell.

How can Farage recover from being associated with it?

It’s easy to explain: people are dumb. 😆

For example, look at Chloe. She regrets voting for Trump in part because his tariffs are dumb. But she also cheers for Nigel Farage, whose Brexit was worse for the UK than Trump’s tariffs will be for the US (probably). Farage and Trump are cut from the same idiotic isolationist cloth, but she’s still dumb enough to be a Farage fan.

How does any form of conservatism still get any traction in the UK? Don't most Brits revile Thatcher's memory?

What you need to know is that only 30% of the electorate, Nationwide, could be bothered to vote. Which means that 70% didn't really care. Like Your President, Farage is a blowhard who says things that he thinks people want to hear. These elections were for County Councils. They are the people who get your bins emptied and your roads repaired. Reform spent a hell of a lot of money trying to convince the electorate that it was all about immigration. A County Council has as much control over immigration as a Brit has over the US economy. (Does anyone have control of the US economy) As far as I know Reform Uk is not actually a political party. It is a private company and as such does not have to divulge its sources of income.

No. many of the younger ones don't even know who she was. The older ones are divided between those who benefited from her sale of assets and those who suffered, and continue to suffer the consequences.

So dumb that only 30% of the electorate could be bothered to vote. Farage spent a hell of a lot of money to achieve these results. In my county, he spent at least ten times what spent by Labour and three times what the Tories spent. He will not divulge where that money comes from, and until Reform is a political party, he doesn't have to. Being dumb, the people don't seem to be worried about that. but he who pays the piper, calls the tune.

If you can do that and still contest elections, why did the Tories and Labour never think of it before?

Hopefully it's a protest vote against both Tories (because, Tories) and Labour (who have started by cutting benefits to their core supporters).

If there's a genuine support for Farage who is an open supporter of Trump, the UK will go the same way as the US. It's not a good prospect.

What Farage is remarkably silent on is exactly how illegal immigration can be cut. All he knows is that cutting immigration is the only thing that will solve every issue from dirty bus shelters to traffic congestion and insufficient social housing. You name it, the answer is immigration.

He infers that he has a magic button that will make the boats crossing the channel turn around, that will make the French willing to keep the migrants in France, that will stop people from selling boats to people who want to buy boats. People are too brainwashed by the relentless tsunami of bollocks to realise he's a fantasist.

Probably because they were formed a long time ago. Political parties do not pay tax, so that is an advantage to them. However, tax is only payable on profits, so as long as Reform spends its income, there is no advantage. Farage has repeatedly claimed that he will turn the company over to its members, making it a political party but so far has failed to do so. He can ensure the company makes no money by paying an offshore company, which supposedly employs him, for his services. If he owns that company, which might be based in Mauritius, he could only draw a minimal salary and so avoid paying tax. His company might own the house that he lives in and the car that he drives. They would also pay for all of his first-class flights as legitimate business expenses. Now you can do all of this as a private company, but as the organisation grows and develops a structure, it becomes necessary to hold reserves, which means becoming a political party, registered as a charity, is advantageous.

Worth remembering that the Brits were the first Western country to get rid of the slave trade and the Portuguese were the last. The Portuguese were the last in 1888 because the Catholic Church, particularly the monastic orders were reluctant to do without slaves. However, the 1888 law was not enforced and slavery was commonplace in Brazil until the 1940's. As late as 1970 it was admitted by their own government that there were 44,000 people still living in slave conditions (no wages but ' accommodation' provided') in the former colony Brazil. All told some 4 million Africans were exported to Brazil, considerably more than to the USA.

I know a bit about it because my wife is part Portuguese/Brazilian and her family, only 3/4 generations back owned slaves. Not a pretty story.
