Yep. I tell guys to stop thinking of their daughters as little dollies and start thinking of them as separate human type people. Guys feeling the need to protect their daughters against the men they choose to associate with-- another aspect of rape culture.

I think it isn't a bad thing for a father to be overprotective. I think it's a bad thing that young men aren't trustworthy enough for the dads to relax.

Umm... Maybe. And yes, young men need to learn better. And yes, young women need to learn to make good choices.

But in order for that to happen-- daddy cannot take it upon himself to make the choices on her behalf. He doesn't do that with his sons.

If a young woman chooses to have sex with a particular dude, it's really not dad's business to threaten the guy who is her choice. If he feels that the guy is a bad idea-- he should talk to her about it, and why.
