So yes...I'm a bit of a copy cat...but I saw the Thirtysomethings thread and thought it was a great idea. I know there are a lot of twentysomethings out there in Lit world....why not start a thread just for us?

I don't have any soul searching questions to ask or advice to hand out...but I'll leave the door open for anyone who wishes to post about the perks or downfalls of being in their twenties....

perk: still getting id'd EVERYwhere (which is a compliment - i turn 27 tomorrow)

downfall: trying to get anybody older and wiser than you to take you seriously

Happy Birthday to you entitled ~ many more to you!

If there is to be a thread for those of us over forty someone better be careful naming the thread! ;)

One serious downfall as I start my last term in school and look towards that post grad status, what the fuck am I gonna do now?

the upside is simply that question repeated again but with a more positive upswing to it lol.

I liked the way you turned that around Blue ~ it is all in the intention. Have a great last semester.

I decided to avoid the whole post grad thing for awhile longer and go onto grad school....and I ask myself all the time what the fuck am I doing here....?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY entitled!! I both love and hate getting carded...I love it because it's nice to actually be over 21, and I hate it because I'm still convinced that whoever is carding me won't believe the id is real...strange fear of mine...

As for being taken seriously...I agree...I feel as if the twentysomethings are the lost age....they're not the silly little teenagers anymore, but they don't have the respectable status of a thirty or forty year old....I think we get the shaft :)

Hmmm.....well following my uninspired example and copying a name off of someone else wouldn't be good enough for those wonderful litsters over forty....we'll have to come up with something creative for you guys ;)

Thanks Cat.

I thought about postponing it but still came up with the same question- the product of the ever vague political science degree which is a very weak spring board to everything

Hey my undergrad degree is in sociology (concentration in special ed) and my graduate degree is in education. I do freelance bookkeeping and accounting! 'Everything' is available so why not?

My Own Way - as long as the name for a plus forty makes no mention of that dang hill that seems to get mentioned quite a lot, I'd be happy! lol Good luck to you this semester too. btw, I like the Red Sox mention, do you live or go to school in Boston? I'm a lifer there.

Hill??? What Hill??? ;) LOL...I know nothing about a hill....

I'm a Red Sox addict...which is a fairly new and disturbing development...not new as in I just jumped on the band wagon cause they won this year, but new as in they broke my heart last year when they couldn't get it done. I went to undergrad at UMASS-Amherst and my parents still live in Mass....I'm currently basking in the Georgian sun :D

The flailing forties?
Is there life after 40?
So your 40, its all downhil from here!
40 and OMG!! I'm over 40!!
Over 40 and its a good day when you can get it up?
OK So I don't fit that bikini I wore at 20! I'm in my 40's!!
Those aren't wrinkles! Those are experience marks!
Over 40 and over the hill.
Over 40 and building the hill for the kids coming up behind me.
Life over 40, where you try to convince yourself experience matters more than ability.

Heh..

btw, I'll just add Cathleen that I'm in my late forties myself. :p

I waved goodbye to my forties about six months ago.

I'm working on the concept of Fifty and Fabulous... ;)

Would you like to join me in the corner for a good cry? I'm in grad school hell too.

Here are a few things I've learned since I've been in grad school:

1. I am an idiot. And the fact that I would even THINK I can be a sociologist is almost laughable. LAUGHABLE.

2. Mediocrity is the key to survival. Over-achieving is for suckers (Over-Achievers Anonymous Handbook, 2004).

3. Always cite!

4. Statistics classes are hard.

5. Professors have a disproportionately high prevalence of Asperger Syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism.

6. Data is plural. Datum is singular. (actually, i knew that one before grad school, but it's embarrassing when you slip up).

7. I do, in fact, have an anxiety disorder.

8. I thought I was a horrible procrastinator in high school and college. I had no idea my procrastination powers could go so very much further.

9. Grad students are total freaks.

I hope my 30s are much much better!

You're not the only one with the ID fear. I'm going to be 29 next month, and when they carded me in Vegas, they REALLY looked at my ID. It's real, honestly! I just look like I'm 16 or so.

That is too FUNNY Dollface!!! I can agree with all 9, except for a few....never had the pleasure of taking a statistics class and data and datum mean nothing to historians. I've also discovered that in addition to an anxiety disorder I also have a severe case of ADD, and that despite my atrocious procratination...I seem to do some of my best work under pressure...like a five page paper three hours before class kind of procrastination....if I keep my stress level up this high I'll be dead before I'm 25....forget the thirties all together :)

LOL...I had a woman a few months ago ask me what year I was in High School....In a way it's flattering....but I still get that nervous butterfly sensation in my stomach every time I go to the packie to buy beer....

LoL! This is so funny!

I agree....my personal favorite though when it comes to professors...and NO offense to any out there in Lit...but I love when you answer a question and they just look at you like
A: You've grown a second head

or

B. You've just given the DUMBEST answer they've ever heard

I've gotten B way to many times to count....

I've finally bitten and clawed my way up to being a twenty-something after the dark years of teenager-hood. It's wonderful to be here! I never really felt like a teenager, but I think twenty-something is suiting me nicely :D Nope, nothing insightful here, move on.

I always felt rather stuck as a teen ager as well...like I didn't really belong there...don't get me wrong...I LOVE being young and in my 20's....good thing I still have 7 years of it left :D

My favorite is when you've taken a class (or 2, or 3) with them, and when you go to their office hours, they look at you like they've never seen you before in their life and have no idea what the fuck you're doing there.

I had one of those....I had a professor two semesters in a row so I asked him to do my grad school reccomendations...he kept asking me....Have I had you in class before?
