This is the old Redfield that I have. Oddly enough the price on this one is almost exactly what I paid for mine in 1974 ($239).

To my side and slightly in my eyes.

Since the leaves are (finally!!!) falling off the trees, those annoying light/shadow spots along the tree-lined medians are less distracting.

A bit more grazing. We'll try to close our eyes for a bit before loading. Nap #1 was a fail.

Just one thing after another . . . .

Dawn sighting!!! Too bad she gets less and less exciting. Now, Whitney, on the other hand . . . is married.

The wind has picked up, and it's decidedly cooler.

The landlady ran two new receptacles in here, so the extension cord can go away, which is always a plus. Who said that modern code requirements don't improve Life??? Some twat, but not Wat.

Maybe a bit of the old telly . . . .

It was very windy here today, but sunny and nice.

I'm glad your trip was eventful as to sightings n stuff and uneventful as to unwanted shenanigans.

One of the advantages of being known as the guy who will go anywhere at any time for any reason is that I stay extremely busy. One 0f the disadvantages is sometimes they take me up on that. Currently I am 124 minutes from home..

Not that I was planning on quitting for the night but there's a lot of Territory between where I am and home where an assignment could pop up but it seems rather unlikely. I got out here because it seemed better to just transport this guy and to transport him home he can be miserable at home just as easily and much cheaper than at being miserable at an ER. He was a registered nurse that got into it with a bouncer in a Mexican bar who pepper-sprayed him

The cops were very sympathetic and explaining to him best practices but he was a little too drunk to take their advice or mine. I was trying to get him to quit using ice because the water just reinvigorates the capsaicin. I happened to have a bunch of microfiber cloths though so I kept switching him out and that did seem to help a bit. He must have told me at least three dozen times how much he appreciates me and the way the cops treated him and all this sort of thing there's nothing better than a grateful drunk as opposed to a belligerent one. By the time I got him home he was feeling better and a lot less drunk. It was 45 minutes from home I managed it in 38.

Morning Wat.

Now that it's been mentioned I haven't seen a rifle rack in ages either. And I know that the rifles/shotguns haven't disappeared. Where'd they go? I guess everyone just decided to go concealed.

Well, a visible rifle in a rack in the back window of a pick-up at Walmart is likely an invitation to steal more than anything else. Side glasses are points of easy entry.

But I always thought that an M1 and an M1A riding in tandem would look really cool.

A guy I used to see routinely had a tool box on his truck full of rifles and gun gear. He took an M1 wherever he went, it seemed. But he was subtle, as he likely would get tossed from many more PC establishments - like his employer, maybe.

The world changes constantly, but not always for the better . . . .

One of the guys I regularly shoot with is on the local SWAT team, one o0f the key members actually. He's always driving his duty vehicle where ever he goes mainly because he's always subject to call up. Anyway, his duty vehicle is a Suburban and when you open the back end there's what looks like a chest of drawers there. Neatly stored there are all the tools of his trade along with the special equipment that the team might need depending on the nature of the deployment. Sorta like

There are all sorts of variations available out there.

Cool, wet morning, but sunny for now. Hannity, Limbaugh and Trump were in town last night. That must have been some dog and pony show.

I had a job where my company truck was the former plumber's van.

After I got the pipe residue and the PVC cement stench out of it, I discovered that there were all kinds of neat little shelves an' sich to keep my crap on.

They stayed there nicely provided that no drastic driving maneuvers were required, nor large bumps encountered.

Not to fear, there was a very heavy-duty screen separating back from front, partly so nothing would bash the driver in the back of his head . . . .

Arizona quite sensibly has decided that although the employer can say you can't bring a weapon into the shop since you have no choice but to park in the company parking lot that's your own personal domain and they have no right to forbid you having a weapon in your car in the company parking lot.

At the mine there was a big sign as you came in saying that firearms and explosives and alcohol were forbidden on property they had to White out the part that said firearms.

The explosive thing was pretty stupid as well since we were in the business of blowing s*** up for a living. Lots and lots of my compatriots had full access to high-yield explosions primers detcords ..he whole she-bang.

I'm sorta shopping for something for my car. The best stuff is all Police related and for the most part it's all overpriced.

Reading your talks about some of that roadkill and I know in the redneck area I came from one person would hit or shoot it, the next would call their buddy on afternoons and it would be gone and hanging in some butcher area not long afterwards. There is never enough meat donations at the foodbank but the hunters and their friends make sure any excess gets where it's needed and not much goes to waste.

I was up early and going, time change is an antiquated idea that doesn't belong in a 24 hour world. That said the clock on the stove will be wrong for the next 6 months because I can't remember where I put the manual to change the damn thing.

And you're right Wat, in the hands they are a deterrent, hanging in a rack while you're shopping or eating they are a target, besides many gun laws now require that they be locked up in cases.
