Backpage has worked better for me. But always check them out when you get there, some use pics of different people. Always verify phone number, never respond using email. Craigslist has never worked for me, too many fakes there.

-grainy, old-looking, or pics that seem too good perfect are usually a bad sign.
-Look for video verification
-If you see other ads at the bottom listed as 'this user has other ads' and the ads are not the same person- stay away. Some swap phones and accounts with each other.
-if the ad stresses they are all about the $, then they probably are and will shuffle you in and out in 15 minutes or less leaving you filling unfilfilled

Call and ask a few questions before visiting. Be normal and dont act like just some patron. If they rush you off, then you be the judge. If theres lots of commotion, then someone will probably be in the next room or closet when you get there.
