Some months ago I heard an African diplomat talking about the Ukraine war. He was from a country whose borders had been set up in post colonial times in ways that completely violated ethnic identities. But he was making the case that we can't fight wars based on the idea that a border is irrational. (Some would say the eastern border of Ukraine is not rational. I'm not saying that, but it was the genesis of his discussion.) He cited this principle of international relations. We just have to abide be legally established boundaries. We can't keep relitigating/fighting about them.

Does anyone know what the name of this principle is?

Are you looking for the principle of intangibility of borders?
