Judge Lamberth refused to block Bolton's book’s release (because it had already been widely distributed), but he made clear that Bolton “gambled with the national security of the United States.” He said Bolton “exposed his country to harm and himself to civil (and potentially criminal) liability.” Lamberth stressed that Bolton had “irreversibly tarnished his reputation” because, in the judge’s words, “for someone who dedicated his life to public service, that is a sad final chapter.”

The DOJ also pursued a civil suit against Bolton to seize royalties from the book, arguing he breached his contractual obligations by publishing without full clearance. So while Bolton wasn’t criminally prosecuted, a federal judge officially found that he violated federal secrecy laws and his contractual obligations. So, all of that said, because there is a ten-year statute of limitations on violations of the Espionage Act, the DOJ is likely looking at reopening his case.

Funny I just realized I have Bolton's book on one of my bookshelves. I started collecting books critical of the Trump Administration because I figured it would be good to know how it happened so that it would never happen again. Once Biden rescued America I just wanted to forget about the nightmare of the previous 4 years so never read it.
