Okay, this is based similar to English Lady's "ask me a question" thread, only triva based instead of sexual. I'll pose a question, someone answers it, then poses one of their own, and so on , and so on, ect, ect, ect.

Lets find out who knows what about useless menushi, and also see just how long we can keep this tread going.

My game, I start:

Summer Fall Winter Spring Anyone care to venture "who" went by this seasonally poetic name?

Your "Humble Opinion" is duely noted, Un-registered, but I disagree with your assumption that this thread belongs solely on the general board. We, as writers, deal with this sort of menushi every time we set pen to paper or our fingers to the keys... at least, if we want our stories to come alive, have some vibrancy, give the taste of believablity to the reader, we do.

Taking this aspect into account, playing my harmless game should, by rights, produce some fairly stimulating bits of triva in this thread. Who knows, some writer, searching for just the right piece of floatsome to insert into his work, might find it here, or someone may see a piece of triva that will ignite the spark that sends them straight to the keyboard.

How many of us have had an idea for a story generated by something someone has said to us, or by some snippet of something we've overheard? I'd venture to say everyone one of us has used the triva of our daily lives in our work. I'm the first to admit that I have. Unless you're confined to absolute solitude... like say, living all alone in an igloo in the middle of Antartica ...then you can't help but be influenced by inane munshi that swirls about in our entirely-too-complicated world.

The vast majority of us here are not Willie the Shake-the Bard of Avon, so my advise to you, Un-registered, is, if you don't wish to play the game, then don't. You do have that option. Also (and I know I'm going to get my 36c tit in the wringer for saying this, but...) I think you need to lighten up and stop taking yourself quite so seriously. Literary snobbery is more of a pain in the ass then determined ignorence. IMHO, of course.

Boy! Somebody got their knickers in a twist awful fast! Over an opinion that this might not be the best place for such a game - which i agree with - no less. Maybe the unnamed one isn't the one that should take themselves a little less seriously.

What's "triva"?

hs

Both menushi and triva were misspellings and I'm sorry for that. I am, as a rule, far more precise in my spelling and grammer.

I am, also, damned sorry I ever started this thread. I simply thought, with other writers contributing, some interesting bits of minutiae <-- spelled right this time) and trivia <--also spelled correctly this time) might come about.

Apparently, since I don't live on line, I broke the rules, and if I knew how to deleat this thread, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Any further criticism of this "unappropriate" thread can please be directed to the nearest trashcan.

Hey

Don't take it to heart Jordan, a couple of miss-types and spelling errors, so what.

You tried to invoke a debate, it didn't work, try again, I wouldn't recommend the general board, you think they're rude here, you aint seen nothing yet mate. Newbies don't get much of a welcome on Lit so don't take it personal, no fucker much speaks to me yet.

pops...........

;) must be the snow in the antipodes ;)

hmm For my part, I apologise for not saying Gidday and Welcome to Litland earlier, not that there's any kind of official welcoming committee here. We all just generally swarm around and say gidday when we get the chance. This has been a busy week for me. I've been taking a UK friend on tikitour around in my neck of the woods most of the week, so I apologise for being late! ;)

Just to be contrary to previous opinions, I think the trivia thread's a good idea. The only problem I have with it, is that I suck big time at general knowledge so I'd be no help with contributing other than asking dumb questions. lol But I would read it with interest. :)

I personally don't have a problem with spelling errors or typos. I'm not perfect myself. In general most of us manage to cast a quick eye over our postings before hitting the submit button, and that's fine. If not, heck, it isn't like somebody is gonna come after you and take your ear lobe between finger and thumb and cart you off to the looney bin somewheres, right?

Right?

ouch!

Well, I'd to play. Wasn't that the name of the Indian princess on Howdy Doody or some show around that time.

Why I decided to check this thread again is beyond me, but thank you pop_54, gauchecritic, wildsweetone for your sympathetic shoulders, and bearlee got it right.

Since bearlee didn't pose a trivia <--see, right again) question of his own, I guess it's safe to assume that this thread has reached its disinterested conclusion.

Thanks again to those of you who treated a "newbie" (even though I've been posted at literotica for over a year) with some common courtesy, instead of rudeness and snobbery.

Hi

Same here pops. Is it 'cos we're English?

Gauche

I get this strange feeling too gauchecritic, maybe it's because the first thread I innocently posted a reply to on Lit was met with a torrent of imature and senseless abuse from *American and Canadian members*, racist abuse even if you want to be PC.

I was told in no uncertain terms that stupid bed hugging fucking Limey bastards weren't welcome here along with thinly veiled threats of violence for daring to stick my nose into an open thread.

Very nice first impression and not something I was used to, on well run and moderated boards any hint of racism or threat is jumped on immediately by the admin.

Funny isn't it, *they* abuse and stamp on everyone then as soon as a problem crops up, they expect the world to jump in to be their friends. Fuck *them* springs to mind. Do you agree.

Cheers: pops...........

A character on the "Howdy Doodie Show" in the fifties.

Princess SummerFall WinterSpring

OOps, someone already got that. Guess I should have read the entire thread.

I love trivia, and I don't give a damn where and when it's played.

Aww, come on, Pops. I'll speak to you.

Sincerely,
Diane the Fucker

Ps, You're correct about this board being somewhat short on the milk of human kindness. Maybe that's what makes it so interesting.

What the hell, let's play trivia. Here's one:

In what novel by an American author did the "portagees" appear? Who's the author?

Just stopped in to see who was around and saw some newbie laments. I've been a member of various online communities over the past 7 years and I hate to say it, but newbies often get the sharp end of the stick. It's one of the less charming aspects of internet forums and generally the only way to combat it is with persistence and a determined effort to hook up with like minded folks. There's safety in numbers ----- it doesn't matter how new you are as long as you're not alone.

Here, come relax in General and I'll make a thread for introducing ourselves to one another. I think I'll call it "Fishing for Newbies".

Oh, triva...hmmm.......Okay:

What is the major component of household dust?

Dust mites and parts thereof, but my question hasn't been answered.

I hope that isn't interpreted and giving a newbie the sharp point.

Triva, triva. Who's got the triva? What the &^)_+^% is a triva?

MathGirl,

hahaha, no not at all, I didn't see your post before I posted. Sorry to have jumped the gun. I never feel like much of a newbie anywhere I go so I'm not touchy about it.

Jordan Lynn,
Sorry I haven't said "hi" yet. But welcome to the Author's Hangout. There are all kinds of "hanging" going on around here, just duck when you see the noose moving your way. ;)

I think a trivia thread is fine here. I have seen plenty of other threads go off on some wild tangents. Who knows what story idea or discussion could begin from one or more of the questions.

As for spelling, he who is without sin cast the first stone. I'm very guilty of that sin many times over.

I'm not so great at trivia, but I might join in at times. :)

Pop,
Hon, I do think I have talked to ya a time or two. I would think you would need no one else after me. ;) :D

Pookie :rose:

Edit: Corrected a mis-spelled word ... sheesh ;)

Well, was my answer correct? I'm a mite curious.

MG,

Hell, I'm still looking for books about Portugese imigrants. It'll turn out to be something I was assigned in highschool but skipped in favor of reading horror and porn I'm sure.

The largest component of household dust is sloughed skin cells. How's that for creepy?

It was written by someone you were probably assigned to read in high school.

I believe you'll find that the mites eat the epidermal detritus.

OK, so maybe this thread shouldn't be tossed into the general smorgasbord. Whatever floats people's boats.

Dust mites and mite parts, and i have no clue on the author one.

For the record: i prefer the English more often than not. ;) Something about accents and such.

How fast can a housecat sprint?

Cats can't sprint as fast as they think they can, or you wouldn't see so many as roadkill. They seem to think a sprint beats caution. I'd estimate they can probably sprint .... 30mph over a short distance.

I'm going to leave my question up for a while. I think someone will recognize it. Hint: The author won a Nobel Prize for Literature and his first name wasn't Ernie. That should be a dead giveaway. Just like the author.
