unfortunately I have no advice to give. But I wish you the best of luck, hun.

We don't have very many trans folks around here - more chasers, actually - but you are certainly most welcome. Are you on LiveJournal? There are a number of communities there that are just full of people, including some that are sex-oriented (as in the activity, not the genitals) that would have similar types of discussions to here. I'm only currently reading the transgendered and queer daddy/girl communities, but I have poked my head into some others. If you're not already on LiveJournal, consider signing up - there's a lot of good resources there, and a lot of good people.

thanks very much for the info Etoile i'll have to look into it.

Tiffany,

I lived as a TS, did hormones, the whole 9 yards (all except the final snip), for 8 years. Ultimately after a long walk down the wild side decided it was not for me. Stopped transitioning in January, so I'm at the end of my journey, while you're at the beginning of yours. I sincerely believe everyone has to find out for themselves where they fit in on the gender scale.

Just as a resource, you might want to look at my web site. I kept it updated while i was going through transition. You'll find information there about one person's experience with things like electrolysis and hormones and some tips on more basic things like makeup. All of which could be of some interest if you're just starting out.

Hope you find what you are looking for... enjoy each step along the way.

Male to Female TG here, still preop ... too damn much money.

Wish I had some wise words or sage advice for you, but I don't. Just find a lot of money.

Nice to meet you, regardless.

Best of luck to you!

Shadow.

I'm considering becoming a woman as well. I know it won't be too hard physically (I can already pass for a woman), but I have one nagging fear: will I ever be satisfied with anything other than natural perfection? Currently this is one of the few thing holding me back. That and: will sex be less pleasurable? Part of my gender issues is feeling inadequacy of sexual abilities, and I've heard things about hormones killing the libido.

Can anyone advise?

I guess I am a little puzzled by this statement. Many of the transwomen I know aren't "becoming" women - they are women, and are working to bring their bodies into alignment with their self-perception. Is that how you feel, or am I misunderstanding you?

A good website, by the way, is the TS Road Map. Definitely lots of good reading there.

I hate the "trapped in a man's body" description. For some reason it annoys me. My perception is I was born a guy, and I never liked it, so I want to change it. It's merely a matter of defenition.

"Woman trapped in a man's body" has never really sounded right to me personally either. I'm me, in my body.

Now, I don't say that I was ever a 'guy,' either, however I may have identified at one time, or rather thought I had to identify.

At the same time, I believe in freedom of choice on all levels. If someone 'wants to become a woman' I have no problem with that, though I'd say make sure because the surgery isn't reversable.

I'm well aware of the concerns. This is by no means a rash or unprecedented descision, and I'm still in the research phase anyway. I know what I am, I know what I want, but they have yet to match. The rest is pointless semantics.

According to the research studies i've seen, 7 out of 10 post-op TS's say they are orgasmic. I find that somewhat hard to believe. I'm willing to bet it's closer to 50-50.

So if you find the $5,000 to $25,000 necessary for SRS, you've got a 50% chance of ever feeling sexually satisfied ever again. Personally, i never liked those odds, so have left my plumbing alone.

Yes, hormones can kill your libido. Depends on which ones you're doing. Basically there are two kinds - one to put estrogen in your system, the other to block your testosterone. If you take the latter, you're going to lower your libido. Of course what you take, and how much of a dosage will determine if you completely kill your libido, or just slow it down.

Hope that helps,
Steffie

I don't know about the statistics, but one thng I do know is, if your sexual configuration, to put it crudely, is 'wrong,' than the surgery may improve your chances of orgasm. Remember, it isn't all physical. Getting the equipment right can get rid of some psychological barriers that are getting in the way. From the physical standpoint, it really depends on your surgeon, and how well they can reconstruct the nerves and blood vessels. If they do their job, orgasm is quite possible (I personally know a post-op whose equipment works exactly the way it is supposed to, and again, with the psychological issues of wrongness taken care of down there, has orgasms, even multiples, regularly).

No guarantees in life, so you weigh the options. You have to go with what fits your Soul. The only wrong answer is the one you leap to without thinking about it and researching it.

Transgendered

I'm four years post-op, so I no longer consider the term applicable to me.....opinions may differ. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or just want to yak. Also, you might be interested in reviewing my on-the job transition as a public schoolteacher --- see the thread "shameless plug" for the anthology carried by all major booksellers.

In the merantime, best wishes.... :)

Is it seriously that cheap for an MtF? Wow... I'm jealous... Bottom surgery alone for FtM's is $40-50,000. Top surgery is $4-7000 and the gyn stuff, ie hysto, uterus removal is $17-28,000 depending on if you can find a doctor that will remove the uterus.

I agree Etoile, there are LOTS of groups on LJ that are very informative. It also lets you get a general idea of what people are going through in their transition. I know that I belong to 10 or more FTM groups and I'm sure there are more MTF groups than FTM.

Just go to LJ and create one, in the interests section put down everything you want to know more about in addition to interests and then after your journal is made if you look at your information you can click on each interest to get a list of others who have that same interest and any group revolving around that.

Most metoidioplasties are in the vicinity of $10-15,000 from what I've seen. I've heard phalloplasties are about the same price, and Centurions are usually less. What does that quote of $40-50k include?

Fabulous advice for anybody wondering about anything, really. LJ has groups for everything! I'm going to friend you, if you don't mind...

Well... it depends on what you want. The phalloplasties that you can get for less than $40k are generally really bad and look like something off a corpse. The more expensive ones are in Belgium, they are the ones that are the most functional and look the best. They also have the smallest percentage of transmen losing ability to reach orgasm or become incontinent.
I dont know much about metoidioplasties and Centurions, was never really all that interested in them and from what I've heard from other guys that have had those procedures they aren't satisfied with it.

The good news is that they are thinking using the vaginal walls to make the penis instead of the skin from the forearm or thigh will allow for more sensitivity.

Of course you can friend me. :) Actually you already friended me and I you

Oh by the way Etoile, if you ever get the chance to see Willie's Drive Thru you should. It's a satirical look at transitioning for FtM's yet it to me it made it very clear that there should be some changes with the way things happen.

Yeah, I've seen some of the ugly phalloplasties, I can't imagine they're all that happy with the result. And personally I agree that phalloplasties look better than metoidioplasties...I can kind of see the reasons for wanting to use your own genitalia rather than fabricating something that didn't exist before, but if realism is a concern then phalloplasties just look so much more natural. They're not the only way to go, though, and every guy is different.

I want a phalloplasty but I doubt I will ever be able to afford one. For me, it's a struggle saving up for top surgery. I think most people are just waiting it out to see if something better comes along rather than wasting their money. For me though, it's frustrating to be with a female sexually and will continue to be until I get a phalloplasty (if ever). So for now, I'm content to be trannyfag bottom lol.

I think the prices of some of these procedures may go down some and the procedures themselves will improve over the next few years. I just have to remind myself that FTM medicine hasn't been around near as long as MTF medicine.
