Ok, I've never created a thread in the PG but thought I would try this one. I thought it would be fun to post our past traditions as a child, our current traditions as adults and fun and embarrassing memories of our holidays gone past.

What Traditions did you like as a child?

What Traditions do you still do?

What new tradition have you started?

You're most embarrassing holiday moment?

The funniest holiday moment you can remember.

Please only post one at a time so maybe this thread will last past 2 hours, LOL.

I'll start with new traditions:
For my children Santa has always been about Spirit. So from the beginning, I taught them how he is important to Everyone, not just them. Because of that, he brings one unwrapped and completely put together toy each year. It was awesome to see them walk into the room seeing that one thing already opened and ready to play with.

Every Christmas, my mom does breakfast, then my dad reads us the Christmas story from the Bible or he will read "Twas the Night Before Jesus" and then we will open presents one by one. She will usually give a gift to one of the kids...then that child will be able to pick a gift to give to someone else...and so on.

While it's great to be able to see what everyone gets, as time has gone on...and more family members have joined, it does take forever. lol. But it is a great time, I think, to be able to see everyone's reactions...and let them take their time.

WOW, that's a great idea! To take time and watch the reactions! I wished I thought of that as me being the photo taker, it was so difficult to "capture" that moment! I have gotten a couple of good shots, but they are far and few in between. I also put a vid camera in the corner I have it on vid!

That is something that would be cool to have....the videos from Christmas morning....etc.

My most cherished memory is the gift I "made" for my children one year. I bought some of those blank puzzles you can draw on yourself. They are only 4"x6" well I bought 6 of them and I put them all together then I drew Disney Characters on it. Then I also spelled the words "We are going to Disney for Christmas" so not only did they have to put the small puzzles together but then the small puzzles made a big puzzle. My children were 7 and 5 and it was awesome for me and torture for them. They wanted to play with toys and such and I wanted them to put the puzzle together, LOL. They were pretty irritated, but when they put the final puzzle together the looks on their face was priceless! It took me forever to draw the puzzles lol. I think I wan't to do something like that again one day.

As long as I can remember, my family has had the big dinner on Christmas Eve following church. Later in the evening, the kids open one gift then put milk & cookies out for Santa. Reindeer "treats" are now included in this tradition. :)

When I was a child one of my Grandparents traditions ( I was raised by them) was to open one gift at midnight then we had to go to bed for Santa. We only went to Church if my Great Grandmother was with us.

Embarrassing Moments:
When I lived with my father, he always brought me my presents wrapped in bath towels, LOL. No not new ones, but at least they were clean! LOLOL

Hey....I am sure you didn't really care though. LOL

Growing up, family time was Christmas Eve. Everyone would come over to our house for the big dinner (ham, rolls, veggies...) and then we would open all the presents under the tree. We would go to bed and Santa would come and leave his presents for us.

The problem with getting married is that you have to combine tradition, and sadly that is the one that has been lost for me...

I agree LaCandy, but see that's why I thought of this thread, maybe you can start some new traditions with your family.

I for one am thinking of something new to do with my children now that its just us three. It doesn't have to be huge just create a memory that will bring smiles and memories.

Like we get our tree on Thanksgiving weekend
Starting the Friday after Thanksgiving we only listen to Christmas music, NOTHING else until Christmas day.

I am such a sap I am thinking of things to do for when I have grandchildren, LOL.

Funniest Christmas Moment:
My daughter was 6 and my stepmother sent a package. My stepmother is very frugal and usually shops after Easter and sends that for Christmas. Well my daughter opened her gift and it was a pair of sweat pants. Womens Size Large for my little 6 yr old girl! They were hidious as well, horrible colors and polka dots. My daughter tried to hold them up and just started cracking up laughing! She stepped into one leg of the sweats and pulled them up to her chin and wore them all day! It was so funny for me. We now call it crazy Grandma gift and the kids look forward to it each year.
