Titans: The Revised Adventures RP

After Ashton’s response, Dick turned to look at the door, hearing the buzzer go off. “That must be her,” he said, walking over to the door. After confirming it was indeed her, he buzzed them in, and waited for them to take the elevator up to his floor. When they entered the apartment, Dick’s eyes grew wide. “Roy!” he embraced his old friend.

Then Donna stumbled into him, Grant's arms automatically reaching out to steady her. He blushed brightly, his eyes going wide. That took the edge off his temper, for the moment anyway. "Uh, sorry about that." "You okay?" "That Roy seems...really..." he couldn't think of anything positive to say. "Really...enthusiastic." Lame.

"Grant, I'm sorry. I've never seen him like that. He was always sweet, ok a bit arrogant but a nice guy."

The drastic change in Roy bothered her deeply, as did the near instant hostility between he and Grant. Donna was completely at a loss as to why Roy would act so callous or why Grant would be so upset by it.

Of course innuendo tended to fly right over the little Amazons head. She just didn't get it. To her it sounded as if Roy was just talking about hanging out, rather then the sexual connotation it might have carried. Besides she knew exactly what had and had not happened.

It took those long moments of distracted thought for her to realize her position and extract herself from his arms, blushing a bit but laughing it off.

"Obviously grace is not on my to do list today. I hope all this hasn't ruined your day, I know it can't be great showing the new kid around and then..."

A gesture toward Roy and his female companion...companions..there were two. Now her jaw slacked a moment and Donna just stared. Well now his leaving her made sense, maybe he wanted more then any one girl could provide.

Ashton nodded about his father. If anyone could help, it would be him and his colleagues. Suddenly, buzzer sounded. He sat back down, pulling the designs from earlier out of his backpack. It would take some time to build, but he felt certain he could. He looked up to see Roy Harper Junior, also known as Arsenal. The guy was a little odd, by most standards, but his confidence was wellfounded.

Grant watched Harper leave, somewhat surprised at just how strong his desire to punch the mouty redheaded kid was. Wow, no one had gotten under his skin like that in a while. He was both surprised and glad that his charge hadn't started to grow faster, along with the tell tale blue white glow around his hands. That was the last thing he needed right now.

Then he looked down at Donna and he felt himself relax. She had a wonderfully calming presence. "I think you did pretty good, considering Cassanova over there and his mouth." "I'd have reacted a lot more poorly."

He smiled, "Besides, other than Harper, showing you around has been the best time I've had in this town." "I can't tell you how glad I am that I volunteered."

Reikka entered the apartment silent as a mouse. She didn't know these people and in many cases didn't care. Noting the black haired kid going to hug Roy she figured that was Dick but then they all look like dicks even the females. Rolling her eyes she sighed and happened to drop her gaze on Ashton. Finally someone of pleasant standings. She would simply go to him and see what he was drawing this time. And did just that as she hovered over his shoulder, rude enough to ignore the one person that she should have at least acknowledged. "What are you drawing now?" she asked Ashton with a soft smile. He was easy to get along with unlike Roy whose mouth and actions got under her skin.

Ashton shook his head. "Nothing right now, I'm just figuring out what 'm going to do with the designs. I could build them fairly easily, but I'd need to get the parts first. And enough metal to form the base unit. Unlike the other ones I have, this one's energy blade extends from a long metal edge."

“Roy!”

"Dick. How's it been hanging?" Roy took Dick's embrace in stride and hugged him back. "It's been a good while man. What have you been up to. I joined the cops. I know your old man wouldn't reaslly approve, mine was a little skeptical at first too."

Roy took a good look around the apartment. Vey nice. "A lot of good work in this place. You set it up or did the old man? Either way it's a nice place. Spacious too. Good view. I got one of those, picket fence places. On the ground. But I like your view."

Roy took a look over at the other girls in the house. Cute. And a gloom cookie that Roy automatically thought of bringing sunshine and rainbows to. Later.

"So I've been told about some team effort here. What was in mind?"

"Sounds all techy and such...how have you been since last we split up?" she asked taking a seat next to him she study the paper a moment but grew bored of it and propted herself on her elbow as she made small talk.

Raven glanced up, the slight frown on her face now becoming a thin line that stretched across her lips. Place was getting rather... full. Which meant they'd want her to be sociable. Damn. She sighed, stretching her legs back out and leaning against her hand once more. She wasn't one for big groups. School was bad enough.
----
Angel, however, was ecstatic to see more people coming in, grabbing Starfire's hand. "The rest'a Dick's friends're here! Cmon, lets go say hi..." *Maybe someone else can explain a few tings to this gal... Nice 'n' all, but... Whoo...*

Ashton grinned, then turned his attention to Raven. "Don't mind them. The only one you want to watch out for is Roy. From what I've heard, he fancies himself a ladies' man. I'm Ashton, this is Reikka, and that one over there is Starfire. Nice to meet you." He turned back to Reikka, then smiled. "We were discussing a bigger place. My father will probably be able to help us, get us anything we need. He's also got some other stuff that might be useful."

Roy heard that and perked a little.

"Bladesman right. Fancies himself a ladies man? You heard lies and decieving's friend. I don't fancy it at all. I am a ladies man."

Roy took the time after to walk up and introduce himself to the Gloom Cookie he had just seen and the two red heads near her. "Hi. I'm Roy, and despite what you may have heard I'm just friendly." He offered a hand to each of the two Redheads and a smile to the dark haired one.

OOC: Okay, stop posting for a minute, lol. By the time I reply to everyone, more posts will be up. Just wait a minute till I post, lol.

"I think the rumors were true...he does fancy himself a ladies man. Been nothing but a pain in my ass all day." Reikka spoke up but kept her attentions on Ashton as he explained his plans. "Sound goober..." she commented to that suddenly getting the urge to just leave. That or she would turn Roy into a complete puddle of mush before the day was out. After all she hadn't tested how strong willed his mind was... Perhaps dress him in a tutu, make him drink his own bile after vomiting all over himself, then top it off with a swan dive off the balcony. That would be pure entertainment. She thought with a smirk but kept herself in check...for now.

"Flattery, I like it."

Donna calmed somewhat and started to relax again, seeing Roy had been a shock and the instant rise of emotions between Grant and Roy had been a bit surprising. She was still not sure what to make of that at all, guys were weird, maybe that was one of the stranger male bonding examples.

"Speaking of showing me around, you were going to, right? I mean there's important stuff to know like the video store and the best place for pizza. Though I think this place has to be top of the list for that."

The mood was definitely a bit heavier then before but she was determined not to let the day be ruined. After all there were a couple more hours before she needed to be home and she really did want to know more about the Vector city then the pamphlet given to her when she moved.

“I don’t care to discuss the old man,” Dick said with a frown. “His life is none of my concern, and vice versa.”

“No,” Dick frowned again. “I didn’t want anything from him. He had some money in an account for me, and I did take that, but not as a gift. I considered it payment for the years I was his sidekick, a salary if you will. I earned it. Then I came to Vector City and got this place, about two months ago. Started school here to get my diploma.”

“Well,” he explained, “we’ve formed a team called the Teen Titans. It started with just us three--” he pointed to Ash and Di “--but today has been a very eventful day. In the timespan of twelve hours, we fought a villain, saved a building full of innocents, and recruited several new Titans.”

OOC: I am editing Robin's bio to account for these changes I've made to his past.

Ashton grinned at Reikka's comment about Roy. He shook his head, then rolled up his designs and sat back down on the couch. "Dick, you mentioned something about the old newspaper tower building by the bay? That would make an ideal base, considering its size and the underground garage connected to it."

“Yeah,” he turned to Ashton. “It has the garage, two floors of open space, two floors of offices, and door to the roof. It would be ideal.” He saw look on Ashton’s face. “Dude, I was there once, remember? That’s how I know old man Spinter is selling it. He also owns a few apartment buildings, and I went to ask him about one, and his assistant directed me to the old building where he was storing some old furniture. He showed me around a bit, but told me that all his apartments were rented out. Then he offered to sell me the tower, and told me a bit about its history. It used to be the home of the old local newspaper, the Daily Record. I guess back in the late sixties or early seventies the name was bought by a larger company who didn’t want the tower, relocated downtown and renamed the paper to what we know it as today, the Vector City Times. Ever since, Spinter has been trying to sell the old building. I declined at the time, but I think I’ll give him a call on Monday.”

Raven actually gave a light laugh at that. "Ladies man, huh?" She shook her head. "Good luck with that." She gave him a look, then turned back to Ashton. "I'm Raven. At school.. Its.. usually Rachel. I don't really like that name, though. Raven is fine."

"Roy? M' name's Angel." Angelique smiled, taking his hand. "This here's m' friend Starfire," She added, nodding to the beaming redhead next to her. "Don't mind Raven... She don't seem to get along with many people," She said in a lowered voice.

"I heard that." Raven shot her a look.

Reikka took a seat next to Ashton propping herself on the arm of the couch as she leaned on the back of the couch. She would listen to everyone, do a little observation, maybe mingle if she found the need but after all this she'd go home.

Rupert Stele walked home from his new school with his head low. His brown eyes were watery behind his thick rimmed spectacles. His light reddish-brown hair was floppy and unkempt and his fringe hung limply by his eyes. Unused to not wearing a uniform, choosing something to wear had been difficult and as soon as he'd arrived he knew that his corduroy trousers and flannel shirt would make him stand out worse than usual.

He had hoped that the move to America would mean a school where he could finally make some friends, but Day One at Vector High School had been far from successful on that account.

He had been too painfully shy to say more than two words to anyone all day, and the one person he'd spoken to had seemed far from interested in hanging out with the likes of him. Social skills had always been something he'd lacked, and moving to a new country, having to learn an entirely new school system had made his nerves worse. His first day at a new school had been awful. He wondered if his parents had faired any better at their new job at STARR Labs.

He reached into his pocket and his hand closed around the cold metal object his had placed there before walking to school, a spare key to the back door of the suburban house the Steles were renting. Before they moved to America, he had been at a private boarding school and hardly ever seen his parents. He realised that things were going to be the same here in America, even though Vector High was day-school only. It seemed that his parents cared more about science than their son.

Grant smiled that sheepish, goofy smile again. "Then I'll keep it up." There was an innuendo there he hadn't intended, but he was sure she'd miss it. She seemed too innocent for those things.

"Right, well, let's hit the video store." "There are a couple of places for food that you gotta know about." He started to walk, Donna alongside him. "A good Chinese place, another pizza joint, and the best barbecue in the city." He laughed, "A guy like me knows where to find the best food."

It was getting on though. Soon, she'd go home and he'd have to go back to the condemned hovel he'd been living in. He hated thinking about that. It reminded him of the situation he was in. Being with Donna, he didn't have to think about it. He could avoid for a little longer.

Theytoured the city, he showed her all the best spots to eat, to find a good movie, to watch other people trying to look cool. The two had laughed and shared another couple hours of each others company before the darkness of dusk settled and it was time to head home.

"I really should be getting home, it's..."

Donna turned, trying to orient herself, harder from this vantage point on the ground. From the air she could find her way without a problem.

"That way, south. Just a few blocks. Thanks for everything Grant, you really made this a great frist day. And I promise tomorrow I'll entertain you."

She made another photography gesture and grinned to him, as promised she was still intending to take his picture, besides the art teacher had told her she could use the school dark room and he was interested in seeing her work. So maybe Grant would become her first credited assignment!

"You've done plenty to entertain." Grant sighed, looking up at the sky, the sun almost gone now. "It feels like a long time since I laughed like that." "And really, meant it, you know?"

Time to go home. His smile fell a bit, but he tried to rally. "Uh, want me to walk you home or would you rather have some alone time?" "I know I've been kind of monopolizing you."

He needed to get back himself, if he was going to try and roust some dealers and have time for his homework. He had to try and get an early night. He broke into the school gym to shower, and he had to do it pretty early to beat the teachers in.

"Weird as it sounds, all things considered I had a great time. Thanks. I think I can manage my way home though, it's not far. Besides I want to stop at the drug store and pick up a few things. But I'll see you at school tomorrow!"

Donna turned and took a step, then hesitated. She turned back around and stepped back, leaning in to press a swift soft kiss to his cheek.

"Thanks for everything today Grant. I mean it."

Then she turned and was off, bounding away for her apartment and the drug store on the corner. Who knew, maybe there wouldn't be a need for her tongiht and she really coulf just get ina good soak in the tub and relax.

"Yeah, see you tomorrow." He stood to watch her leave, startled beyond words when she turned and kissed his cheek lightly. "Uh...I...uh, y-yeah...sure."

Then she left, Grant frozen in place until she was out of sight. There was just something about it, he couldn't look away. Not that he'd want to. As much as he felt guilty about it, he liked the view. Though he'd rather see her coming than going.

Well, better get on with it. He moved to a back alley, and started to run. He'd built up a pretty good charge, guessing his speed was around 40mph at the moment. The run would do him good, burn off some of the power. He couldn't let it accumulate...or it'd be another Marietta. Or that quarry in Virginia. Or the warehouse in Philadelphia.

He'd run about two miles, when he jumped up, landing on the roof of an elevated train platform. As the train moved out, clanking down the track, he leaped, landing on the roof. Grant sat down, a faint smile on his face. This was the best part of his trip home. You could see so much of the city from up here, and the wind was quite nice.

*******

The house had once had a family in it. Maybe several. But that was along time ago. Now it slouched among the others that pressed in around it, threatening to break under it's own weight. The shingles were dark and stained where they were whole, and not a window was unbroken.

Grant stood before the tumbled down old place. Such a metapor for his life right now. "Home, sweet home." He pushed the door aside, the one hinge that still worked threatening to snap before he replaced it in the frame. There was no electricity, but with all the holes and the broken windows, plenty of light got in from outside. He sighed, moving to the living room and taking a few books out of his backpack. Better get to it.
