"I'm so sorry."

Her hands moved across the table and set on top of one of his, she gave him a soft serene smile.

"I'm sure they would be very proud of you. I was told once when I was young that death comes to everyone when it is ready, not when we are. It's a mark of our own spirit as to how we face it."

"Would you want to go out again so soon? I warn you, I am not really all that interesting so you might run out of reasons to want to be around me fast."

A chuckle and pat to his hands before her own pulled back and the pizza tray was set down between them. A tall glass of water for Donna set down as well, and his own drink put into place. The pizza smelled heavenly and looked even better...it was indeed the perfect food. One she'd been fixated on since leaving Paradise Island.

Grant froze up again when she laid her hands on his, the wamrth and smoothness of her skin sending a thrill through him. Her smile, the honest compassion in her eyes, he could almost feel his heart swell. Not good, Grant. She's out of your league, new in town, and not looking for a boyfriend. Don't fall for her. "I...yeah, it comes when it wants to." "I don't think any of us say it coming." Except the guy who killed them, and whoever he worked for. "Sorry to be a downer." Though now that it came to mind, he had to wonder if his real parents were alive.

He then smiled, a shy, goofy kind of smile. "You're plenty interesting, Donna." "I'm finding new reasons to be around with every second." You idiot, what a cornball line. You sound like a bad romance movie. The bad part was, he really meant it.

The pizza arrived before she could say anything back, and he was glad. The server also set down a coke for him. The smell was heavenly. Fresh food. His mouth was watering. He wanted to tear into it like a hungry wolf, but he was juuust enough of a gentleman not to. "Uh, dig in." "Ladies first, you know?"

"Thanks! I don't know about you, but I'm starved."

Donna lifted a slice and tried to manage the dripping cheese to her plate. She had to laugh as the cheese seemed to have other ideas and dripped from the pizza tray, all over the table to her plate. It looked wonderful, gooey and greasy but wonderful.

She waited for him to take a slice as well and then she lifted the hot pizza to her lips and took a tentative bite. It was amazing, in all the foods she'd tried all over the world pizza always seemed good no matter where it was from or how it was prepared. It might well replace ambrosia as food of the gods.

"This is good pizza."

Spoken around a mouthful of the wonderful hot and tasty doughy dish. Donna sat back and wiped her mouth a bit, still trying to chew the large mouthful she'd taken. A sip of water helped and undaunted she took another bite. Conversation was bound to slow as they were eating but she made token attempts anyway.

"You're a senior right? Any plans for after? College or something?"

She had no idea. Grant snatched two slices of the still steaming pie, deftly slicing free the strands of cheese that would have tugged the rest of it off onto the table with his fingers. Super strength had it's uses. Realizing that this would probably burn a normal person, he suddenly dropped it into his plate. "...ow, heh." "Guess I'm hungrier than I thought."

He forced himself to eat it slowly, fighting the urge to scarf the delicious dish down. Sooo good. So warm and fresh.

When she mentioned college, his shoulders fell a bit. You kind of needed an address and parents to go to college. Not to mention it would be good if you weren't on the run from a hidden but malevolent organization and (maybe) the police. "Yeah, I'm a senior." "I'd love to go on to college, really get out and experience life." "I don't know what I'd major in yet, I think I could make a decent scientist." Then he shook his head. "But it's not in the cards." "One of those life gets in the way kind of things."

He wasn't going to explain, though he knew he wouldn't be able to stop himself if she asked. Better head that off. "What about you?" "I mean, I'd say you could work through school as a model or something." "Are you thinking of going to college to become a professional photographer?"

"Careful, it's hot."

Of course Donna hadn't been too careful herself, the heat merely a nice warmth to her touch. Blessings of the gods were handy like that. She listened and chewed as he talked, his obvious enjoyment of the pizza making her smile. She had no idea how ravenous he was but the look alone was something that made her feel good for having bought the pizza.

"I don't know if I'll go or not. So much else to do in life. I know everyone says you need a college degree to be anything...but I think some people have.."

She got quietly thoughtful a moment as she tried to compose something that wasn't a lie nor was it too much information.

"I just think some people have other callings in life that are every bit as important. And no way could I be a model."

She laughed off the very idea of it and sank her teeth back into the pizza, rapidly finishing off her first piece.

"It's not like it won't be there if you change your mind, either." There was something else to what she was saying, but he wasn't interested in mysteries right now. Donna and the pizza were occupying far too much of his attention. "I think you'd be great on a runway, but now that I think about it, I wouldn't want to put up with all the drama and crap that seems to go with that life."

He'd gone a bit overboard, his two pieces having vanished in record time, and in mid-reach for a third. He blushed, drawing hsi hand back, "Sorry, guess I was hungrier than I thought."

"I think I know what you mean about callings, though I think a lot of times...it's something that ends up choosing you." Was what was happening to him a calling? Would he love his whole life like this? A vagabond super hero? Of course, he might not have a choice. "Whether you want it to or not."

"Don't be sorry, three or four pieces is my limit."

She was already on two and she waved off his apology encouraging him to eat more.Half a pizza was still sitting there and it wasn't about to go anywhere on it's own. Also it was a nice way of sidestepping issues as he had. She had never really been one to discuss her own beauty, always found it easier to find that in other people and things through the lens of her camera.

And back to callings, she knew all about them. She was born into one. Donna had a destiny set in motion before she'd ever even drawn a breath. Even if she didn't know what sort of kindred souls she and Grant were she was warming to him. Hard not to, handsome, sweet and kind as he was.

"Well, what would you like to do tomorrow then? Since you have me for the afternoon."

Grant laughed, rubbing the back of his head with one hand. "Can't fool you for a second." "Thanks." With her encouragement, he tucked in, devouring another two slices in record time. He knew it probably didn't make him look too dashing or charming, but he wasn't likely to get to eat like this again any time soon.

Maybe he was being too negative. It kind of looked like things were turning around. Donna was...amazing. And she actually seemed to like hanging out with him, which struck him as a minor miracle. When she asked about what he wanted to do tomorrow, he took a few minutes just to look at her. Then he smiled, "The whole afternoon, huh?"

Grant leaned back, wiping his hands and lips on a napkin. "I'm feeling like outside." "Maybe spend some time at one of the parks or on the riverfront?" "How's that sound?"

"Great! I'll bring my camera, maybe we can get some good shots. I used to go hiking a lot back home."

Paradise Island was an amazingly beautiful place, beaches, mountains, crystalline rivers... it was an Eden. A refuge for the Amazons in exchange for the harsh treatment life had given them. Loyalties to the gods had rewarded them with immortality and their own home.

Of course that was hardly something she was going to bring up, Grant was too nice and normal a guy for her to even think of mentioning her own mythic upbringing.

"If you don't think it's too corny maybe we could pick up some stuff and make a picnic of it. And you could help me get these classes down. Most of this is stuff I've covered in my old schools but chemistry is where I am going to fall short. I am so bad with chemistry."

Grant grinned, "A picnic in the park with a beautiful and intelligent girl?" "Corny isn't the word I'd use, more like a dream come true." He then realized what he'd said and blushed. However, he couldn't take the words back, and he'd honestly meant them. Those eyes of her were doing it to him again.

"But," he hurried on, "Chemistry is no problem for me." "Like I said, I like science." He grinned sheepishly, "Consider my your own personal tutor."

He eyed the remaining pizza, but decided against eating any more. If he was lucky, Donna wouldn't want to take it home and he could eat tonight without dumpster diving. "Uh, if it's not too much to ask, what are you doing tonight?" "Still settling in?"

And cue the blush, Donnas sun kissed cheeks blossomed a brilliant red for a few seconds and it faded slowly to a pink tint on her skin. She was not used to hearing such things only because she rarely put herself in the situation to hear them. She'd been flirted with, well one guy had been almost dogged in his determination to get her to go out with him. In the end that had paid off in a wonderful summer for them both. But still it wasn't something she was entirely used to.

"Great! You help me with science and I'll help with...well..anything I can I guess."

Donna looked at the pizza and patted her stomach.

"I cant eat another bite, if we get this boxed would you eat it?"

She had plenty of food at home and left overs wouldn't do her any good. She looked at him, again with imploring eyes, the pizza was too good to throw out, but she had no use for it. Maybe he would be gallant enough to take it off her hands.

"No, I got settled in before coming to school, it's not much, hole in the wall sort of place but it'll do for me. I don't need a lot. The bathroom sort of doubles as a dark room in a pinch so it's livable."

(been looking for this and STILL missed it!)

As Di spread her legs Roy let his hand finaly travel up and Stroke her through her jeans. Then Reikka walked away.

"Hell. Ok Well as much fun as we have been having we should probably get going to Dick's place like you said. I'm sure we can have some fun after that."
Roy gave her a kiss, and Stepped up offering her a hand. Reikka was still outside Fuming on her Bike.

"So who know the way there?"

Di blushed a bit as he stood and offered her a hand out of the seat. He'd not done much, but it made her temperature rise, especially after the things which had transpired earlier with Reikka... and then not. She stood and answered his question.
"Um, that'd be me, I'm not sure Reikka even knows Dick. Just down the block, right at the light past the pizza place, then left at the next light and it's on the right. Easy enough." She shrugged and walked outside, put on her helmet and mounted his bike.

Grant blinked, surprised as Donna blushed. Did she...was she...she liked what he was saying? He didn't think it was blushworthy...but he had to admit he liked the effect. "I'm sure I'll need all kinds of help." He'd have to think of some things she could help him with. As many as possible.

Easy, Grant. Remember, we are absolutely not falling for Donna Troy. Not happening. Nope.

Yeah, he couldn't even convince himself.

All that was wiped away when she asked him to take the pizza, and he beamed. "Sure!" "This'll be great for dinner, even cold." He laughed, "I understand about your apartment, you should see my place." "Now that's a rathole." Technically it was a two story fixer-upper home that was just waiting to be torn down or fall down. No electricity or water, plenty of rats and bugs. Classy all right.

Grant got the pizza boxed up, and the two teens headed out into the evening. The sun was just beginning it's trip toward the horizon. "Well, if you don't have to go home, uh, how'd you like to just walk around a little?" "You know, see the city?"

"I'd like that. I really don't have a curfew or anything, part of living on my own. I also can't blame anyone else or depend on anyone else if I'm late though."

Double edged sword as most things seemed to be, for her at least. She listened to him talk about his own place and grinned, it always seemed that getting started on your own was tuff and you go through a lot of crap before you go to some place nice.

The waitress boxed the pizza while they talked and Donna followed Grant outside. The sun was setting casting gold and red streaks across the sky. Donna paused to admire the beauty of it, her arm once more slipping through his and her head resting on his shoulder. It wasn't much, but it was nice really. She'd missed being close to a guy for some time.

"Lead on."

Roy.

Roy was getting his helmet on. Explaining to Reikka The vauge instructions Di had given him to Dick's apartment when he heard it. A voice. Clear and soft. With a sweet Naivite.

lil_squirter said:
"Lead on."

"Donna" Roy said it under his breath. And then Louder. "Donna" He began walking. Finally Calling out. "Hey DONNA."

"How have you been doing. We sort of Uh.. lost contact. Where did you go? What have you been doing?"

Roy looked her up and down. She just looked better and better. He remembered how good it had felt to be near her. Just laughing. Over Pizza or Chicken. Movies. She was a really good girl. Really nice. And she was with some big dude arm in arm. Roy didn't like him already. He decided to ignore him. It would probably be for the best.

"So I've been alright. Working. Keeping busy, I see you got a new boy. Does he have a name?"

"So I've been alright. Working. Keeping busy, I see you got a new boy. Does he have a name?"

"Hmm?"

She'd thought Grant had called her name and lifted her head to look at him, but he was looking off at the sunset and giving no sign of having spoken. She heard her name again, defiantly not from Grant, she blinked and looked around for who might possibly know her here. Finally she heard the voice clearly and the sound of it made her gasp. She turned toward him, pulling Grant along with her from the hold on his arm.

"Roy?"

Donna stared, the handsome red head was there as if he stepped out of her memories, nothing about him had changed, except perhaps the height. He might have gotten taller. Donna was tall for a girl though so it was hard to tell.

"Uhh Hi. I've been good...do you live here? I just moved after..well after last summer I had to move."

Roy had been the first boy she'd ever gotten close to in that way, he'd been wonderful. They'd had long talks, walked on the beach...pretty much all the cliche stuff as well as spending hours just watching movies and snuggling on the couch. Being that she was...well... Donna was not as experienced as Roy and he'd accepted that gracefully.

"I'm glad you're good. The way you left, I wasn't sure if you were ok. I'm glad you are. Still working, that's great, really."

She was trying to keep up with his questions, until they came to Grant. Donna swallowed hard and paused a moment.

"Oh, umm well Roy Harper this is Grant Emerson, he's showing me around. Grant this is Roy, we..uhh we met last summer."

She was unsure even how to describe him at this point and was suddenly finding herself very nervous with no idea why.

"Oh go ahead. Tell him. Grant. I'm Roy. I was with Donna last summer. It was a lot of fun we had. I kinda wondered what happened but I can see she's found a handsome strong guy like you." Roy chuckled a little. "I'm sure you two will be happy together. But I have to get back. People waiting."

Roy turned about to put his helmet on. "Oh but Donna, Be sure to keep in touch. here this is my Address and Phone. We'll get together ya know." He turned away and shot back.

"Yeah nice to meet you Grant."

Roy walked back to his bike. Smoldering inside. A good part of him wanting to take Donna on that back seat. Another looking at a new girl and a new day. yeah A new girl, and a new day.

"Hey here's your helmet Di." He gave her a quick peck on the cheek and swat on her butt. "Time to show me where we're heading."

"Roy..."

Donna stepped away from Grant long enough to offer a look of concern to Harper, the red head didn't seem to be his usual happy go lucky self. At least the happy go lucky exterior her tried to pretend to be. Deep down Donna knew there was so much more to him then he let on, over the months of the summer before he'd started letting her in on that. But then his work was over and he vanished.

"Roy, I..."

And then he was rushing off, stopping to hold out a note with his information on it. Dumbly Donna took it, her brows knitting with confusion to his attitude.

"Uhh ok. I guess. Be careful."

Donna watched him go, befuddled as to what had just happen, she back stepped until she bumped into Grant and turned to look up at him. She offered a sort of apologetic look before she sought out Roy again. He was....

...he was kissing another girl and hit her on the butt! Donna blushed furiously and looked away immediately. She turned so quickly she wound up falling into Grant, her hand gripping his shoulder to keep her from knocking him over and to keep herself upright.

Well first day in a new school and already things were awkward, this had to be some sort of record.

"Most guys like t' have things kinda... rough 'n' manly. Might be shiny fer 'em, but not all that comfy t' be sittin' on. I was thinkin' we could go find the new place somethin' nice to be crashin' on- seein' how we're gonna be spendin' most of our time there."

"I don't quite understand, but I suppose if we are to crash on some other place then that would be acceptable." She nodded at Angel and smiled. "So when are we to begin crashing?"

Grant really wanted to hit Roy Harper. Hard. For all his positive qualitites, Grant had a hot temper. Roy was doing an excellent job of riling it up. "I can't say the same, Harper." "But I guess if you want to just run your mouth and then run away, I won't stop you." "It just tells me all I need to know about you."

What an ass! Why be such a prick to Donna? It was pretty damn obvious they'd broken up, and Harper had moved on if what he was doing to that other girlw as any indication. Guess it was only okay for him, huh?

Then Donna stumbled into him, Grant's arms automatically reaching out to steady her. He blushed brightly, his eyes going wide. That took the edge off his temper, for the moment anyway. "Uh, sorry about that." "You okay?" "That Roy seems...really..." he couldn't think of anything positive to say. "Really...enthusiastic." Lame.

Raven just watched with a smirk as Angel took on a perplexed face. "Ah- no, what I meant was-," Angel started to explain, then just gave up with a shrug. "I'm not sure when we'd be goin' to the new place. Think we'd be needin' t' find it first."

Raven slid her hood back, looking towards the window. "So... we're all going to be roommates, I take it. Isn't that... great." *There goes privacy.*

Ashton nodded, then thought for a moment. "We'll need someone with more technical knowhow than both of us combined."

“What about your father?” suggested Robin. “He could help us arm the tower with all the systems we’ll need to keep a constant security watch on all the hotspots of the city. After Di gets here, shall we go talk to him?”

"Hey here's your helmet Di." He gave her a quick peck on the cheek and swat on her butt. "Time to show me where we're heading."

A bit confused, Di donned the helmet as she asked, "Who was that, an ex-girlfriend?" She smirked, knowing it probably was, having already gotten the feeling - when he'd put her on one side and Reikka on the other and led them to his bike then offered to take them to HIS place - that this guy had plenty of experience. Good. He'd get on the team, she was sure of it, and little by little she'd have him teach her a thing or two....

Mounting the bike behind him, grinning coyly now, she pointed and then nipped his neck, barely visible beneath his own helmet, and motioned at Reikka hoping she'd join them. Still not sure about her really, but she'd let Robin decide that. She was on her way now, just like he'd asked, and with the recruits in tow she wondered what was up with the guys today. She hadn't seen them since this morning!!

Reikka followed in silence. Rolling her eyes, sucking her teeth and generally growing more annoyed with Roy every second. Did they have to stop to talk to the bimbo? Was there really a need for pizza that badly? And did he have to keep slapping Dee's ass and kissing her?

Yeah, the sooner they got where they were going, the sooner Reikka could talk to this Dick person and leave. And what the hell name is Dick anyway?

"Sorta.I wouldn't say ex but." He looked back at Donna. "An old flame at least"

Roy kicked up his bike and Turned in front of Reikka. "Hey come on. Follow up. Di will give us directions Reikka. We'll meet Dick and be done for today."

Roy let his motor rev and Made sure Di had a good grip. Without showboating he drove off. A comfortable speed. Actually obeying the speed limit as he made the turns to Dick's apartment. As he pulled up he realised he was pretty much on Auto-pilot. He had barely spoken to Di except to agree on turns. As he parked his Bike he looked her over again. Good looking. He liked the wild hair. Yeah. He walked up and waited for Di to get them buzzed in. Holding the door for both and Guiding Each one in with a hand on their back. He was Sure Reikka would scowl but he was trying to be nice.

"So how's Dick doing now? Moved out on his own I see. Gotta ask him if he ever talks to his old man."

Reikka did scowl folding her arms over her chest she was trying to stay calm. Keep her cool or things wouldn't go nice. The more heated she got (and god forbid she even knew why) the more likely things would get out of hand.

"So who named this kid? I mean honestly, was dick on his mother's mind that bad?" she questioned. So much for keeping cool.
