She'd propel herself up and grab hold of a timber and.. the poseidon's neck...and maneuver herself around such that her weight was supported by her arms around his neck and his wooden member plunged to her depths.
You see (well cannot quite in this image) the mermaid's vaginal entrance can only be accessed from behind ... jest below her fleshly cheeks.

Some have a transverse fin-flap covering... which is brightly colored and they raise and spread when ready for mating.
