Three Rocks Woods (Open)

Lauren Cabot

"Not a problem, hun. I got it covered. There is an emergency flashlight in the glove box and a mag-lite and flares in the trunk."

Lauren climbs over into the backseat of the car, and pulls down the backseat for access to the drunk.

"We also have the emergency vodka, a first aid kit, water and some snacks."

Drea nodded and smiled a little, " Thanks Lauren, you're such a great friend." She was happy to have a best friend like Lauren but she still had this weird feeling that something was not right about the situation and definetly not right about the way her car had just died. " I say we roll down the windows and throw the flares out really quick then roll them back up." Drea laughed some and started to relax a little. What did she have to be worried about? They were locked in a car and had everything they could possibly need

Lauren

"If we throw two, one out each side of the car, the six flares will last through most of the night. If the we throw them all now, they will die out before sunrise. Possibly while it is still dark."

Lauren

"Drea, you do realize that to throw them out, we'll have to open the doors. The power windows won't work without power." she says patiently.

Drea glanced at Lauren then mumbled some, " I didnt even think about that. Alright alright, lets just make it quick ok? You set one on your side and Ill set one on mine ok?" She grabbed one of the flares and waited for Lauren to get hers ready. Drea wanted to do this as quick as possible.

Lauren

"On 3? ok. Don't forget to unlock the door before you try to open it." Lauren smile, still trying to humor her best friend.
Ready?
One...

Two...

Three...

Lauren unlocks and opens the door first, then she pops the cap on the flare and tosses away from her, outside and into the darkness
.

Drea

Drea opened the car door then popped the flare and threw it near the edge of the road. She quickly shut and locked her door then looked at the light that the flare gave off. " Do you see anything?"

The question was not so much what was seen, which was a reddish version of what had been there in the daylight, but what was heard.

From out in the darkness, well beyond the range of the flares, came a keening wail of a horn. The sound was unlike anything the women had ever heard before. It was at once haunting, awe-inspiring, and dreadful. It was the psychic equivalent of fingernails running down a chalkboard, even as it was darkly melodious and strangely beautiful. It echoed off unknown distances, then was repeated.

The noise

Drea blinked some and listened to the horn then she smiled widely, " Lauren! That horn means theres people somewhere!!!! Honk your horn back!! Maybe they will see the flares!!" She looked over at Lauren with a smile

Lauren

Her lips move soundlessly for a few moments before she turns to her friend and whispers, "what the hell is that?"

She runs her fingers through her hair as he brows draw together in confusion.

Lauren

"No, we should wait here, if they see the flairs they will come." And there's not a damn think we can do about it, Lauren thinks.

Drea nodded some and leaned back on the chair then cracked her back a little as something caught her eye. She peered out the window and tried to focus her eyes. Drea could have sworn that she saw a person watching them from the bushes. She shook her head and looked at the seat of the car.

Lauren

Lauren lit another cigarette, hoping to find some comfort in it now that Drea seemed to be relaxing a bit.

The sound of the horn had really unnerved Lauren, much more than Drea's fanciful imaginings and unnatural fear of the dark. Lauren cared too much about Drea to tell he she was being silly. Lauren thought to herself, - of course, Drea would most likely tell me I'm being silly about the horn.

With a little smile she takes a drag.

Suddenly there was movement at the edge of the landscape that was limned in the reddish glare of the flares. A person! The person looked like a man, stumbling. Head turning, gaze flitting around wildly. He gaped for a moment at the flares, wide-eyed and unbelieving. Then he collapsed onto the ground, pitching forward face-down.

There were three arrows in his back. The girls had to look twice to be sure, but there was no mistaking it.

Then another figure burst out of the periphery. This one female. She stopped at the fallen man, hysterical, trying to revive him while looking over her shoulder, her urgency increasing, shouting words neither Drea nor Lauren could understand.

Drea blinked some as she did a double take on what was happening in front of them, " Lauren........What the hell is that? That guy has been shot with arrows." She looked at Lauren then back at the man and woman but there was no way in hell that Drea was leaving the car

Lauren

She whispers as she quickly snubs out her cigarette, "Yes, arrows. Now, we should get down and keep quiet."
She slips down to the floor of the car and only peeks above the door to keep an eye on the sitution.

She seems quite calm on the outside, on the inside she is screaming.

Drea

Drea slides down her seat but makes sure she still has a good eye on whats going on outside. " Lauren......What should we do? " She whispered softly and mumbled slightly while checking her cell phone for a signal. " Dammit still nothing........."

Lauren Cabot

Without much hope of success, Lauren tries to start the car again..

"Gather the flares, look for anything you can use as a weapon... the lug wrench or something. In here, we are safe from arrows at least but I don't know.."

She clenches her hands in an attempt to hold down her rising panic...

"We could get trapped in here. Maybe we should run before anything can see us or knows we are here."

Drea nodded then reached into the backseat and gathered all the flares as she dumped the contents of her purse onto the floor of the car. She shoved some flares inside her purse then grabbed her can of pepper spray off the floor of the car and put it inside her purse. Drea made sure her shoe laces were tied then she put her cell phone in the pocket of her jeans. She managed to find a wrench for a weapon and put it in the purse. " Alright I say we slide out of the car, leave the doors open and head away from where the guy came from. Dont forget our cell phone."

Lauren Cabot

"Don't forget my cellphone? Ok, I'll bring it. Do you have the little flashlight? I have the big one, we should bring them but not use them until... until we are sure its safe. The light will only give us away."

She peeks up and looks around quickly.

"We should head for the treeline, it will give us some cover and as long as we stay paralel to the road we might not get too lost."

"Ready?"

Drea grabbed the small flashlight then slowly opened the car door, " Im ready when you are." She slowly slide out of the passenger side door when she saw Lauren move out of the car. Drea slowly made her way to the side of the road and hid amongst the bushes until she saw Lauren then she started to head down the road with Lauren.

The girl outside continued to scream, and pull at the body of the man. Drea got a closer look at her clothes...they were like nothing she had seen before. Amish was about the closest match she could think of. Either that, or one of those Renaissance fairs. As far as the language she was speaking to the man in a vain effort to revive him, neither Drea nor Lauren had a clue.

Trying to ingore the spectacle and remain out of sight, Drea and Lauren abandoned the car and sought refuge in the bush, edging toward the road. As they looked back at the car, and the scene there lit in that hellish shade of red, they saw a man emerge into the clearing where the first man's corpse remained. This man was dressed in Eddie Bauer, looking to be a sportsman. He looked down at the corpse, then into the darkness beyond.

The horn sounded again...much louder, enough to cause anything the girls were holding to resonate with its ethereal, haunting melody. And to chill their souls. The man looked at something beyond the girl's field of view. Reaching into his coat, he pulled a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic. Actinic muzzle flashes brought greens and blues back to the desert landscape, if only for bare instants, as the man fired shots in rapid succession. Then, he looked at the gun, back into the brush...then stuck the barrel into his mouth and pulled the trigger.

Lauren

As she watched her eyes widened in terror and disbelief. Her one hand flew to her mout to smother a scream and the other hand reached for Drea.

"Come on, we have to keep moving." She whispered in a voice harsh with fear.
Lauren did not want to look back, she only wanted to move forward - away from the terror.

Drea almost screamed and she wanted to run as fast as she could but they couldnt make any noise. " Lauren........we have to get out of here." Drea whispered panicked as they walked along the road slowly nearing the area where Dreas car was parked. She wondered what they were going to do and what the hell had just happened
