1) Bad singing causes me physical pain.

2) I don't think it's cool to laugh at someone who is making a complete idiot of themselves, but think they're doing their best.

3) I hate the very notion of industry-manufactured pop music.

That's the only reason why I watch it. Cos it's frickin funny!

Simon is hilarious! And the expressions on their faces when they hear a really bad singer is classic!

The ONLY reason I don't...

It is the most insipid, lowest common denominator piece of trash that has ever infected TV. And that is saying a lot.
How the hell is someone being a complete asshole to people entertaining?

What really funny to me is how some of the teens REALLY think they can sing! not to mention all the trouble they have to go through just get the addition.

I knew there was a reason I didn't watch prime time TV anymore.

the judges are my three. this is what happens when laker girls rise to their level of incompetence.

Me too, it makes me laugh so hard I can hardly breath.

If it were me auditioning, Simon would call me 'the worst singer in the universe, past, present, and future, for all eternity.'

I agree on this one. I've seen some great bands in local bars that will never be famous.

I can not stand that show. It makes my skin crawl when I here the commercials for it.

I am a sicko

I just love to watch the losers. The black guy with the stupid looking white furry baseball cap was a real hoot. I just loved the look on his face when he got the boot.

I only have one reason: It's a fucking waste of time when I could be here instead.

LOL

I agree with the above "wasted time" reason. I always have something better to do.

Furthermore, what sick impulse causes people to watch these human train wrecks? We like to feel we are superior to these pathetic people, yet we are addicted to this crap. See also: Survivor, The Bachelorette, Joe Millionaire, Jerry Springer, COPs, and every other cheapo "reality" show. This not reality, it is mere spectacle.

I do have a sense of humor, by the way. I just don't celebrate stupidity

I've never seen the show, but I'm with you. I think it's incredibly cruel to take someone whose dream is to sing, let them think they've passed this audition to be discovered on a national show, let them sing their heart out in public, and then make fun of them. I don't understand how that could be entertaining.

I love American Idol. :(

1) Bad singing makes me cringe but once they get all thru that stuff, its a good show.

2) I think Simon is an ass and don't much care for his comments. Gotta take the good with the bad.

3) I couldn't care less who manufactures it, I love to hear good singers sing. :)

I don't watch it because it is a "Survivor" and "Star Search" rip off.

Both those shows sucked and I didn't watch them, either.

Oh, and being judged on looks before talent bothers me.

I feel so out of touch. I have NO idea what you're all talking about........

(jotting a note to find myself a life)

I had a problem with this too.

Simon said the show was American "Idol". Idols aren't unattractive. So he says.

This time around, they have choosen several people who don't fit the image. There is a big beautiful black woman with freaky hair colors, she's got an absolutely incredible voice. I hope she wins! I may even do the phone vote thing!!! :D

This really is a big sticking point for me. It's obvious that the show's producers are using this as a way to get more audience. It's one thing for Simon to be caustic. That's fine. But to basically invite people to watch the show just to laugh at the humiliation of someone who obviously is putting themselves out there on the line completely and sincerely is way beyond the pale.

I don't dig people who just stand by and laugh while one person bullies another one, on TV or here.

Though I don't watch, I think I know who you mean, and I am rooting for her, too!

I agree with you, Jazz. I'm not into cruelty either. I've always been that way. I feel bad for those that don't make it. The looks on their faces when Simon is done kicking them is just heart breaking. I wonder if he even thinks about what his comments could do to a vulnerable teen...or even an adult.

I guess I like the show because of the ending. I didn't watch the whole thing last ime. I came in mid-stream, when it was down to the final 16 or something. I enjoyed watching them try their hardest, sing their little hearts out and generally havea great time while doing it. :)

You should watch, just for her. She's incredible!
