In the county I grew up in, business were not allowed to be open on Sundays. If you had an essential business, like a pharmacy or something like that, you could get a special permit to be open.
There are still no alcohol sales on Sunday there.
We still can't sell alcohol on Sundays here either. It's odd because I very rarely drink but those times when I do need a bottle of wine or some beer or something it's always on Sunday when I can't get it.
...unless the playing of the game could be construed as work.
But assuming they can't play on Sabbath for whatever reason...should the game have been moved?

One of the first lessons any athlete learns is the rules can not be changed during the game. The people who run an orthodox school in Houston, Texas are fully aware that for most of the city, Saturday is an ordinary day. The team forfeits any missed games. They are asking other teams to either play on the Christian Sabbath or during a school day.
