I wonder if I need a gas mask.

Worst case, I could use it during those "bad gas" days.

I think you're over reacting.

I work in a hospital in here in Ontario, imagine arriving at work....Having to go through security just to be let in the building....Handed a mask and entering, everyone wearing masks, and paper gowns....Damn it was like a friggen movie....

Well I was concerned before... but after hearing about plane load of folks being quarantined, I'm very concerned.

I once had a Ph.D who specialized in biological, chemical, and nuclear warfare tell me that he could plant an agent like small pox in just 5 airports in the world, and within a month the entire population of the planet would be infected... no way of stopping it.

So once I start hearing about plane-fuls of people being infected I get quite concerned.

Just remember what happened at the end of the movie Outbreak.

Don Francis has been warning of a situation like this for years. Too bad it could be coming true.

New virulent flues are always evolving in those warm, sticky, hot petrie dishes that the Southern Chinese and others live in.

I could fit 65 Hong Kong residents in my current home.

They are already developing a test I heard, a vaccine, like the flue shot will be available soon. We know what to look for, so it will be controlled. That's a guess, but I think odds are a good one.

It is scary, but, already docs have said they think they know the cause, so, they can hopefully find a cure. West Nile on the other hand. Its mosquito season, so, that's what really scares me.

I hope so.

They have had four cases in a hospital near here. They allege that it was contracted when the patients visited Canada.

But who knows?

THe only people really that are at risk are bussiness people who travel alot to Asia.
As for the plane I'm sure not everyone was infected it was just a precaution.
I'm a hypocrondriac and I'm not that worried... YET LOL if I get it I'm dead no doubt about it.
I've almost died so many times from regular pneumonia (sever lung problems due to my disability).
I was more worried with the anthrax scare actually. WAs convinced I had it for a while lmao
but for SARS. its mostly bussiness people and health care workers that are at risk.
This is what happenes when people travel back and forth to other lands.
thats what happened with the plagues and small poxs many years ago.
Wasnt just the rats. but people.
They believe its a coranavirus thats the cause of SARS.
Perhapes they will be able to make a flu shot for it.

*Shrugs*

There is an outbreak in Toronto of it.
Perhapes its from there they got it.
I know the outbreak in the US is different then in canada. But I'm not sure why .

Here's a good link for information about SARS

SARS

I'm in Hong Kong right now and its spreading more everyday.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I mean, lok at where most people catch it from. Just don't make any plans to go to Asia.

yes but see... OK
I could take a plane... and there could be someone who just came from asia in it.

right there if they have it you can get it even if you havent been there

I got really sick one year off a plane. think I got it on the plane.
either that or in edmonton. within 48 hours I was hospitalized with lobular pneumonia and a very sever ear infection.

Planes spread infections period.

That's a good point. Uh....just don't make any plans unless you can drive to where ya gotta go. ;)

just saying with how much people travel...
that this outbreak isnt that bad.
could be much worse.
especially with how infectuous flus are

SARS is nothing. If it was Ebola Zaire... there'd be MILLIONS dead by now.

A bit of info on SARS:

SARS is transmitted throught droplets emitted when coughing or sneezing. It can also be transmitted through contacts as well, however the virus is not fully airborne, which is why it has not spread.

However, it is still spreading rapidly in certain areas. In China it is spreading like wildfire because of poor hygiene and standards. And despite precuations being taken in Hong Kong and Singapore it has still spread, althought moreso in Hong Kong.

If precuations are taken it will not spread so much....the worry is that it will spread to third world countries, which could literally be decimated by it.

They still don't have a handle on its origins. The first cases were horizontal - the victims were all on the same floor of a hotel.

The worst outbreak is in an apt building where the bug is spreading vertically. Straight up from one apt to the one above it and so on.

Direct contact with someone infected seems to suggest airborne transmission. I would be very concerned riding in an airplane with anyone displaying symptoms. Legionnaires disease, among others, was spread through the ventilation system.

And population density presumes that those most susceptible live in crowded, enclosed areas.

THere saying its not airborn thought.
only very slightly. There saying that coronaviruses can life out of the body on surfaces for 2-3 hours.

if you checked the page out about how many people have had it.

you will realize its not that many since this has been going on since NOVEMBER!!
tis only recently its come around here in US and canada

Yeah, I know. The good thing, as I pointed out, is, docs think they already know what causes the virus, so, hopefully, they can do something about it in the next few weeks.
