Personally, I think Lit Chat appears to suffer from a derth (sp?) of "wise elders" - unless the Daddies count. These people seemed to me to all be very new, not used to anything like vhat acronyms or even the concept of IRC. I believe a new generation of chatters has emerged, and they may be on a sub-AOL level. A tragedy I could never before have imagined.

As you well know, in all chat rooms anyplace on the net, there'll always be people new to chatting, people who don't know the "rules", people who don't give a flying fuck about the "rules", and people who are just passing through so can't be bothered to be anything more than assholes. People come and go in chats. "Wise elders" take time to evolve into their roles but they're a presence in all chats that are even slightly more than ephemeral, gone-tomorrow, sorts of places.

And there's always gonna be chatters who exist on a sub-AOL level. I feel sorry for them, to be honest, believing as they must that the rest of us aren't real and so they can behave badly without consequences. I know, however, that these wanna-be players must be getting *something* from their time online so...i just ignore them.

It's just my POV that the rather transitory nature of the encounters *most* people *appear* to be seeking in that particular chat does not foster a Wise Elder environment.

It seems pretty wham-bam in there. I'm not knocking cybersex. I used to spend a lot of time in a chatroom where I'm sure 80% of the people around me were banging each other in the virtual sense. Its hard to form community with people who don't even ask your name before they ask if you'll be Daddy.

I go to lit chat alot and stay in the main lounge. The lounge is different depending on what time of day you go in. Nick is right there are alot of us in there that do just chat about anything and everything while weeding out the propositions.
One think I have noticed since I tell people I am not there to cyber, is that either they are offended at me for being in a 'erotic chat site' and not cybering or they ask since i am a 'regular' in there if I could hook them up with a good lady. I guess I look like a pimp.

Bri if you get bored again and come to the chat, I will be glad to chat with you if I am there. You won't miss me if i am there I am the loud mouth one greeting people.

I have seen several "regs" from the BB visit chatland. On rare occassions, when Laurel trips and unplugs the BB we see a few more than usual. I also, visit chat on a regular basis, and yes there is our share of "newbies". But the newbies are what keeps this site growing, some stay, some leave. There can be intelligent conversation in chat, but you have to be patient and "learn" who are the ones who can converse at an adult level. As here on the BB, the chatroom has it's own close "family" of chatters who share their happiness and sorrows.

The idiots make me fume for the hassle they give the ladies, women ,(and the guys pretending to be girls).

So it is always a pleasure to have at least a 2 minute gap between a lady entering the lounge and the first tiem she has to ask a PM'er to stop or desist.

I was a chatter before I found the boards. I find I now spend more time on the boards than the chat room but I do still enjoy the chat. When I first started chatting, (blushes)I have to admit I was looking for cyber sex. But the more times I went in, the more people I talked to and interacted with til now, I very seldom get around to the sex stuff while in the chat room.

Hi Nick, Ksss, Curious40, Shylady. I agree with what all these folks had to say, it really can vary what the level of conversation is depending on who is in the Lounge. And, it is true, ladies sometimes have to forcefully say no to persistant pervs sending private messages but the chat masters will handle that if they don't take no for an answer.

I prefer chat when I need a quick pick-me-up. Friends in there will rally round you and make you feel better. I prefer the boards when I'm feeling philosophic, I can take the time to choose my words without missing what everyone else is saying while I type.

Maybe we should pick a time some day and everyone here enter the chat together. Just an idea.

I get PMed occasionally, usually by a guy asking me "Are you Indian?" This has happened several times, different guys (I think). I'm never quite sure what to make of that, or what to say. Usually I just tell him politely to go away...

I remember once stumbling upon a so-called orgy of sorts. When I entered someone was saying:

"Where do you want me?"

I cut in and said "Against the wall"
I immediately followed this up with a separate reply "and shot"

The person in question must have typed a reply and sent it after my first entry, but before reading the second message I sent, because she said:

"standing against the wall for Ally"

I had no choice but to say: "bang!" and promptly left.
I still find that funny; that and WOODCHUCK! [etc].
