Not that you can actually obsorb what people post here, but I several times said the option that had any chance of working was moral suasion (and I also gave an example of what would probably work the best). Copyright ownership didn't come up in this particular issue.

You said that Amazon would require a document to be filed--which they didn't require in this case (the book had already been pulled).

Let me know how any actual court cases get to court. I won't hold my breath waiting for it.

I personally like the 'comment' method

If you don't want to user your main account,
1) Create a new account
2) Buy something on Amazon (a $.10 kindle story will do)
3) Wait 48 hours
4) Comment away on every story. I'm pretty sure they are ALL stolen. The first few I looked up I found pretty easily. Not even enough sense to change the title much.

harding, would I have to create a brand new account or just start using my pseudonym? In other words, I don't necessarily want my regular account linked to this one for privacy reasons.

I was introduced to the e-publishing world at a young age when the concept was fairly new. My publisher had just started their company and there was nothing yet in place by way of helping an author promote their book, short of going out and doing it themselves (blogging, awards, networking with other publishers and authors, social networking, etc...) I was unable to do that. Although the contract expired, my book is still out there and I just found it available through a couple of libraries as e-book downloads. I'm not sure if it is still available for purchas. I'm not sure how that works. I doubt it, now. It was an experiment and a learning experience. I know the market has changed and continues to evolve. So, I am basically re-learning the ropes.

Again, I don't necessarily want to start selling my stories right now. I just want to protect them.

This question goes to anyone as far as COPYRIGHT: How is bundling the stories into collections different, when it comes to copyright? Would the copyright on the collection also give a separate copyright for each story?

Would it make more sense to submit individual stories to amazon kindle publishing or a collection of stories? Anyone have any experience with Smashwords?

Copyrights aren't numbered (as far as I know--there's no number on anything they sent me), so there's no functionality to "separate" coyrights. You just send them all in as part of a series collection. (The Copyright Office doesn't read the material.) The six novels I put under one copyright were, in fact, a series. I just copyrighted them all together under one title with one application and paying one application fee.

I don't bother to copyright any erotica I now write--I just get to market with it before someone else can. When/if you put them up for free read on on Web site like Literotica you are opening yourself up to have them stolen and reposted, and you're just wasting your time and effort to try to contain that. Thieves are in for a quick kill. After all this effort to close out this Jayne character, he/she will just pop up again under a new name with your material. The system isn't set up to cope with the Internet and, frankly, the judicial system doesn't give two figs for protecting erotica that has been published for free read on the Internet.

I just created a new account using my jtharding pseudonym. You DO have to put a real name and address on the account, but that's for payment purposes so I guess that's OK - wouldn't want any money going to anyone else

But as far as I can tell you set the display name etc. I'm in the process of setting up a website for the jt harding name as well, once I find somewhere reasonable to host with that also provides simple website creation. I CAN create a website from scratch (it's actually what I do as a job) but would prefer something simple and point and click rather than have to roll my own sleeves up.

I'm going to buy something under the jt harding account as well so I can then post comments about the thieving bastard. As far as I can tell, there is nothing originally published by this so called author.

OK, as I read it, even if I use my normal account, I control the display name and content. Right? That's understandable harding. I bet adding a blog would be beneficial too, if you had the time to actually do regular blogging.

I used to blog regularly. I'd like to get back into it, now that I have the time again. I just need to find the best site to restart. TypePad is looking good.

Even if all that does is let other people know what is happening and soothe the angry red smiley face, sounds like a plan. *hehe*

Quick Update

Just thought I'd let you know. After completing and submitting a DMCA form to Amazon this so called author has now pulled Georgia's English Rose - or renamed it anyway, guess I'll have to check for that as well.
