There is no such word as cuckhold

CBM is easier

Word of the day:

cuckold: cuck·old n.

A man married to an unfaithful wife.

Word History: The allusion to the cuckoo on which the word cuckold is based may not be appreciated by those unfamiliar with the nesting habits of certain varieties of this bird. The female of some Old World cuckoos lays its eggs in the nests of other birds, leaving them to be cared for by the resident nesters. This parasitic tendency has given the female bird a figurative reputation for unfaithfulness as well. Hence in Old French we find the word cucuault, composed of cocu, “cuckoo, cuckold,” and the pejorative suffix -ald and used to designate a husband whose wife has wandered afield like the female cuckoo. An earlier assumed form of the Old French word was borrowed into Middle English by way of Anglo-Norman. Middle English cokewold, the ancestor of Modern English cuckold, is first recorded in a work written around 1250.

Eb <it's just a typo little grasshopper>

Begging your pardon Ma'am, but it seems a bit too pervasive to be attributed solely to typographical error. I've gotten dozens of PMs from people asking me altogether inane, and somewhat disturbing questions about being a "cock-hold." Given the homo-erotic overtones of a good deal of cuckold fiction not written by me, I have to believe that these people ...

  • believe that cuckold or "cockhold" is a compound word referring to a male who holds someone elses dick.
  • are oblivious to its true etymology, which references the old world female cuckoo bird's habit of laying its eggs in the nests of other birds.
  • have never read Shakespeare or any other of the great writers of English Lit.
  • are not supra-genius German-born theoretical physicists

I wonder... is there a "female" version of cuckold's for lesbian couples? A woman is still calling the shots, but the person being cuckolded is also female.

Not possible? Extremely rare?

Thank you for setting the record straight on the spelling. It's a lot more than a simple typo. It's insipid online illiteracy at work once again. The name "CUCKHOLD" was getting spread several other places with the "h" spelling and I was beginning to believe that you were the one who couldn't spell, and that people were just typing your name as you spelled it. Now I stand corrected, and it's good to see you not standing for it either!

Knowing what words mean and how to use them is pretty damn important if you want to be taken seriously in life. You (meaning any of you here who don't know better) could deeply blow your chances with a submissive but literate person if you call yourself a "dominate" to his or her face, although hundreds get away with this because 70% of the country doesn't know any better. But a smart one, one that might be worth keeping, well, she'll laugh you right out of her ballpark.

"Web sights," on the other hand, makes me want to scream in frustration.

The cuckhold thing was getting pretty entertaining, seeing as it has spread outside this forum already. I wouldn't be surprised to see it take "hold" (cough cough) in the predominantly unread online sexual society with as much vigor as a nouned "dominate" and illiterately lower-casing proper pronouns (such as i--if a dominant, oh excuse me, dominate, had any pride at all in his submissive it would seem to me that he wouldn't have her embarassing him and herself constantly by grossly breaking rules of grammar left and right) or even worse (shudder of speechless horror) the monsterous I/i W/we U/utterly R/ridiculous I/illiteracy. That last one would make Webster weep.

Unda. Crucia. Eximius.

PS: On a related subject, can someone tell me what the heck is cuk--sometimes spelled kuk or even kuck? Is it slang for cock? Fuck? Spunk?

As long as people are unfaithful, every group will have unfaithful people within it. However, I’d be hesitant to call a lesbian a cuckold. Being called a cuckold was not just about a man’s wife sleeping around; it added insult to injury by suggesting that the kids that he was raising and paying for were not his own.

A lesbian would have a hard time convincing her partner that she got her pregnant.

I am just at the age where certain things are just not that important to me. Spelling and correcting others are some of them.

I have more pressing concerns.

True no way to pretend the children are a product of lesbian intercourse. Although the lying might entail who the father of the children are, even if it is not sleeping around on your girlfriend, a partner can lie about who the father is.

lol.. a smart-butt? Perhaps cheeky, but I've seen more spankings as an adult than I ever did as a kid. Misspent youth. ;)

That was intended a compliment on Your prowess as a Sadist, Mistress  <end hijack>.

Does CBM prefer the nick cuckold? or is this simply a public service announcement?

I, too, have little interest in correcting the grammatical misabventures of semiliterate posters, except when its directed to me personally. Such is the case with the cock-hold and cuckhold issue. It's very irksome.

Another of my pet peeves is the arbitrary transposition of your and you're and also then and than. These elementary words, in particular, are rampantly misused on the Internet. It's indicative of the overall dumbing down of America.
