sitting here watching Highlander:Endgame and started thinking...would you want to be immortal? You wouldn't have to worry about health issues...or death unless you had a run-in with a head hunter *literally* or a Dr. Van Helsing. But you'd have to watch all those that you loved die around you. which would you do?

I would be immortal. So long as I could end it myself. Dying is so mortal, and stupid.

I remember watching that movie...
I remember the music....

There's no time for us
There's no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams yet slips away
from us

Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever....?

There's no chance for us
It's all decided for us
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us

Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever?

Who dares to love forever?
When love must die

But touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips
And we can have forever
And we can love forever
Forever is our today
Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever?
Forever is our today

Who waits forever anyway?

I would hate to be an immortal. Especially that one that died as a child and had to remain a child for eternity. To be hunted for your entire life, to be preyed upon and forced to fight or die... Nahhhhh. Which did ya'll prefer, the movie, or the series?

I liked the movies better.

To me there was a sense of closure.

Yeah, I hated the way the series ended, although, I grew a lot closer character wise to Duncan than I did Connor. I am very happy that Richie died though. I couldn't stand that little fuck.

As far as living forever, I would want to live forever.

I can always find things to do with myself.

I don't think I would want to be immortal. I can't handle watching everyone I love and care about dying. Especially my children. I don't want to survuve after my children. I always wanted to be the one to go first.

I don't know. It would be sad to see all my loved ones go before me, but maybe I could make some new loved ones and then live a couple of hundred years or so.

Don't you wonder what life in 2402 is gonna be like?

I loved the first Highlander film. It is one of my top 5 of all time. 2 and 3 were a bit silly, to say the least.

As for the series, we got a very limited showing of the first couple of seasons here in the UK. Most of the rest I saw when I lived in The Netherlands.

I'm one of those odd people who loved the series. I saw it as a development of the first film rather than trashing the concept (as the second film did in my mind).

And I'd LOVE to be immortal. Just think what you could LEARN!

I wouldn't mind being immortal. Eventually I could build up pyschological blocks so I wouldn't be as affected by the deaths of loved ones. The 1st 2 or 3 lifetimes would be tough to handle but after that it would be all gravy. Well as long as I didn't have to fight other immortals or be an immortal vampire.

I thought of that, but what if you just get tired of living and want to take the big sleep?

And who knows what dreams will come in that sleep?

That's what I was thinking.

They can be no worse than the ones I have now. After a point the horrors of the world just wash over you and you CAN'T react any more.

On the Flip Side. Just think how GOOD those dreams could be.

I think of it like a 100 year lifespan intensified beyond belief. The ratio of good and bad would be the same. Only the good would be so much better and the bad, worse. It's all swings and roundabouts.

On the whole I think I could get by and crack it.

[edited because I need someone who's mother tongue isn't English to do my proofreading for me. I'm THAT bad!]

There is one big roadblock I can think of though... What happens in the future? It will become harder and harder to assume other identities to cover up the lil secret of being an immortal. Also what about all of the money you could make during your lifetimes? It would get awfully boring having so much money to spend, eventually you could buy everything you every wanted.

You are probably right. I need to watch Woody Allen's "Love & Death" again soon. :)

"Love and Death" is such a great movie... I need to see it again.

And I need another chess match with death.

I'd choose immortality. Life is such an incredible adventure.

I've only ever seen 'The Sleeper'. I want to see "Everything you wanted to know..." but I've never bothered renting it.

Given the choice between the two, I'd choose mortality. As much fun as being immortal could be - heck, it'd be kind offun to jump out of a plane without a parachute, just to see - I think that my life would be too different, and not in a positive way.

If I knew I was immortal and most everyone else wasn't, I hate to think how I would act and what I would do. My perspective on life would be radically different. I believe that, after awhile, I'd just turn bitter and cynical. Particularly about love and most any relationships. Furthermore, I wouldn't be able to have a child (outside of adoption), and even in the case of adoption, I would be damned to outliving my child just as others dear to me.

I spend a great deal of time on thinking, changing and revolutionizing myself. Would there be much of a point to it, if immortal? Would there be the immediacy? Would there be a point in "living life to the fullest" if it wasn't going to end? A great deal of the value I place in life is the fact that I know it is a precious commodity.

It could be a fantastic experience with the right mindset, certainly. Maybe I'm just happy being flawed with mortality and stuck in my "destined to die" ways. 'Sides, as has been pointed out, -death- could be an even more exceptional experience.

Moratility for sure...

...but damn if it doesnt go by TOO quick. How about maybe 3 times as long?

Not to be a downer, but that could still be less than a year for some, less than 10 for others, less than 20, etc. The uncertainty is the point.

Getting old sucks, but it beats the alternative. If I could stay at my present age, or younger, I wouldn't mind immortality, at least for as long as the rest of the human race survives. I can't imagine being around after everyone else is gone.

C'mon...don't ya want to be around in 5 billion years when Andromeda solar system collides with ours? It's supposed to be quite a show...

...course its better if you have a immortal galpal to make the drinks while you get the popcorn.

Drinks, popcorn and an immortal woman? With all that support I'd never want to leave.
