Not quite.

In base 10, each space to the left goes up by powers of ten. So 111 = one one + one ten + one hundred.

In base 2, each space goes up by powers of two. So 111 = one one + one two + one four = 7 in base 10.

So 10 in binary is 2 in base 10.

I use my fingers to count in binary. Right thumb is 1, right index is 2, right middle is 4 and so on. It didn't take much practice, and I count to 240 in a minute. Ten fingers can tally 1,023.
