The Weekly Weigh-in Thread.

It's hard for me to remember a time when I was a kid when we weren't outside. And now it is rare to see a kid outside at all. Maybe it is all the games, computers, and all the tv stations now. Plus the thought of any kid being abducted and harmed just didn't exist in the world I grew up in. We had free reign to go as far away from our houses as our legs or bikes would take us.

sunday 7th Jan 07 starting weight - 125 kilos

current weight sunday 25th feb - 112kilos

loss of 3 from last week
yay

I'm kind of disappointed - I am using a prescription NSAID now and have gained water weight due to this. It's really common but annoying.
I also didn't keep myself on quite as tight of a leash this week. That wasn't good, so now I have no idea what's going on and how much is water and if some is real weight. Sigh.
I haven't weighed in yet, I'm just going by the numbers on our home scale.

Checking in...
*grins*
250 on the house scale yesterday. Finally back in the correct direction!

You don't even want to know what the scale read last night. I'd rather forget it. Damn, I was hoping all that walking had done some good. Today I got exercise by doing snow removal, heh.

It would have Etoile, just that it would have built muscle (a good thing), but which unfortunately weigh more than fat cells....doesn't seem fair but at least it is positive weight. :rose:

OK, so after a week, with a few slip ups (some due to his tempting us both and me giving in to it...can you believe he also bought chocolate for me?!! :p ), I have still managed to lose 11 lb overall, and even better, I can feel and see it so it helps me keep at it and minimise any tempting moments to minor slips as opposed to a whole feed fest on delicious bad things. Unfortunately, F's program is a lot more slow going, so he is finding it a bit discouraging to suffer a lot to lose only a little. Tried to tell him it is better than nothing and to hang in there, but at the moment he is threatening to discontinue his plan once he has finished what he bought (about 3 more days) and go back to eating food in what he calls sensible ways which are not as he includes lots of bread and loves to fry everything, including meat, claiming as long as it is fried in olive oil it is OK.

I did go out for supper last night but I ate a decently healthy meal, had one drink which wasn't so bad and drank 6 glasses of water after that. Otherwise I weighed in at 160 with the shorts and shirt on so I'm 1 lb down from my 161 with clothes so about 152ish.... yay go me!!!

I am also trying cla to help with the extra body fat I don't particularly need to keep living. I'll let you know how that goes.

You know, this made me realize...I don't necessarily want to lose weight - I just want to fit into smaller clothes. If I lose fat and gain muscle, that's fine, as long as I can wear the cute clothes I want to wear.

And the "spouse bringing home chocolate" - oh dear, I feel you on that one! I constantly have to ask my wife not to bring me stuff. She keeps bringing it anyway...I can only hope to reduce the amount I actually give in to.

I wonder why more women don't lift weights? 98% of the ones I see trying, work out like a girl. You know the type. They only use machines haphazardly going from one machine to the next paying no attention to muscle groups and lifting only 20 pounds or so.

Afraid of bulking up and looking like a man I guess.

Honestly? The weight machines are intimidating. Even though my gym is a pretty friendly place, I'm always worried I'm going to use them wrong and someone's going to laugh at me. Or worse, that I'll hurt myself since I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm unusually clumsy. The cardio equipment is way more straightforward. I know I could ask one of the gym staff to show me what's what, since I pay for that service, but it just seems simpler to stick to the elliptical and the pool. Go figure.

LOL, I have the opposite problem....I have weights and like to use them, but am fighting a losing battle to get the 2 men in this house to even consider touching them. :D

I think it would be worth your time to ask how to use the equipment. Cardio is good and all but the most effective way to loose weight or more so fat is strength training. You don't have to bulk up or anything, but muscle requires fuel to build and maintain themselves so when you work your muscles you actually burn more calories than you would from just cardio alone. The other good thing about building muscle to loose weight is that the muscle rebuilding process can take up to a couple days so for a few hours after you do a good strength workout your body is still burning a hell of a lot more calories than it normaly would, even when you're sleeping.

As for my weigh in for the week, i'm still hanging around the 223 pound mark, but i'm seeing some non scale gains in fat loss and muscle gain.

You don't mean me, do you WD? I assure you I am not afraid of bulking up and looking like a man. ;)

No, I was referring to all the women I see in the gym who either never go near weights, or just make a halfhearted attempt on a few machines once they are done in the aerobic room.

I think the idea for women is you want to build lean muscle.... so you work at a weight that is still pushing yourself a little bit but you do 3 sets of 10 vs 4 sets of 5 at a much higher weight. That and balancing out by doing cardio with the weight lifting it helps to burn a lot more and work the core more.

Very cool....F weighed in this morning and despite our bad habits, he has lost 7 lb during the week. He is off to the UK tonight on business, so goodness knows what delicacies he might be tempted by there but I assured him if he needed to work them off when he gets back, I am more thn happy to help. :D

LOL, fortunately I have reduced the amount of intake of chocolate despite it sitting there and calling my name all day every day!! :D

Somehow... I don't think you will ever have to worry about looking like a man, Etoile. And in my version of the world, that's a good thing. :D

The gym I go to has a women's room, with weight machines, physio balls and hand weights. I have had a personal trainer teach me how to use the machines, because I'd never been to a gym before and had no idea what I was doing  My "pulling" is much better than my "pushing" - I can easily do 20kg on the pull down. I think that comes from years of chopping firewood and hauling heavy stuff on the farm!

I've just come back from a workout of 30 mins on the treadmill (I always use an incline and a fast walking pace), 15 mins on the cross trainer and 15 mins on the stationary bike. My heart rate goes up really fast on the cross trainer so I have to be careful not to go above 160 bpm, but it comes back to normal about a minute or so after I stop using the machine.

At the moment my weight is stable, but my shape has changed. My waist is smaller, my arms are more shapely (no "turkey neck" lol!) and my calves have more muscle and shape making my ankles look slimmer. Master Gil is constantly admiring my butt, it seems to have "lifted" ;) I am broad across the upper back and shoulders with narrower hips but it seems I'm developing a more "womanly" shape. I'm fitter than I've been for many many years :)

Sometimes all it takes to help you get a better shape to your body is a little bit of extra muscle because it will help stabilize the body parts and it will help you burn the extra bit of fat that you don't really need. Also it helps with flattening the hips just a little so its not so.... teapot and more coke bottle shape... nice hourglass.

This would be my shape in a sense right now.

I took that at the science center but yea... you get the idea.

I keep going up 5 pounds a week on the bench press and keep making all the reps. 225 next week. Usually I start to fail before I get up to that much. Not sure what's going on with that.

Back from the Houston BBQ competition and managed to only gain back a pound which made me happy. It was rough though considering I probably ate my normal one day's worth of veggies during the entire 5 days I was gone. My body wasn't happy with me but glad to be home and back to chopping and cooking my own food (stuff that isn't BBQ!).
