The Weekly Weigh-in Thread.

I'm kind of disappointed - I am using a prescription NSAID now and have gained water weight due to this. It's really common but annoying.
I also didn't keep myself on quite as tight of a leash this week. That wasn't good, so now I have no idea what's going on and how much is water and if some is real weight. Sigh.
I haven't weighed in yet, I'm just going by the numbers on our home scale.

Yep. Up 4.8. Ugh. I'm just waiting - the leader says it will stabilize in a few weeks, and then I can get back to work. Well, I'll still be working, but number wise it won't be showing, so the next few weeks will be tough.
Sigh.

Down another 2 lbs!!! *does happy dance* That makes 28 lbs so far.

Every time i look at the scale and see that i am down another 2 lbs i have to get on and off 5 or 6 times before i believe it. Is this really happening? i haven't weighed this much in so long! It is so nice to see those unfamiliar numbers.

my sisters keep commenting on my weight loss. They keep telling me that they can really see it. Then they get jealous and call me a whore...nice, eh? lol. It feels good though.

Keep up the good work everyone!

A mental shift is clearly needed for me. Like WD says, we are all looking for a quick fix, and that's not going to happen. So I need to make a change in my head.

I need to either:

1. Accept the weight I am now, and stop trying to lose weight. (I am 5'4', 160-165 lbs, and size 14.) I will work instead on maintaining my weight by staying on Diet to Go, but not feeling bad about the occasional 1-day slip. I will also work on getting fit, which I am not at all now. The mental shift is going to be not trying to lose weight. I have been doing it so long it will be hard to break the habit. I will have to stop obsessing over the scale.

2. Adopt exercise as a lifestyle. Currently I do not exercise regularly - I tried walking at work, but it's too boring. Ditto for the elliptical at home. Boredom is my real enemy - ALL exercise is boring. I will consider signing up for a gym for inclement weather and get outside the rest of the time - kayaking or walking.

Maybe I will do both. If I do, maybe I will lose weight without realizing it. But I'm tired of alternately crying about the scale and about not ever having a treat. I'm tired of hating my relationship with food. I'm tired of hating my body. I'm so tired of it all.

I have a book at home called "When you eat at the refrigerator, pull up a chair" that I need to start reading. Was it recommended by somebody in this thread? I can't remember.

The only problem I see Etoile, is down the road. Once you hit 30, things go downhill in a hurry. The day may come when you'll have to decide between weighing 220 or exercising.

Too bad you don't have someone to make you do the elliptical naked and pop your ass with a riding crop every time you slow down.

Well, so far I've read the first two chapters of "When You Eat at the Refrigerator, Pull Up a Chair." And it is the best goddamn book I have ever read in my life.

The very first chapter is called: "Don't Diet" - which is exactly what I was planning to do anyway. I am NOT going to beat myself up for wanting a slice of bread to nibble on. I am NOT going to agonize about having Chinese food for a special occasion. And so on. I am going to stay on my diet, but I give myself permission to slip up.

Like for example, tonight I had frozen yogurt for dinner. Not in addition to dinner, because that would be excess calories, but FOR dinner. It was about 275 cals. I had it because my wife is out of town for the weekend and I'm lonely, so I thought "hmm, I will get some frozen yogurt." And I ate it, and I don't hate myself. This feels amazing.

This doesn't mean I eat chocolate for lunch every day. That's the staying on my diet part. It means it is okay to SLIP UP. And by giving myself permission to slip up, I am decreasing the TEMPTATION to do so. It's not as hard a mental leap as I was expecting. Exercise will come next...one thing at a time.

I'm also using SparkPeople.com to log my food, find community, and keep track of how I'm doing. So far it's working out...I actually have FUN logging my food. :)

I've been on a mini-vacation. Tomorrow I'm going on the south beach diet. It always seems to work for me.

248 Saturday...

Last night, I pulled out one of my _old_ police uniforms. It's a man's XL. Not the 2X or 3X shirts I was wearing at the end of my law enforcement days to fit over a ballastic vest. Just a regular ol' XL. It fits. I wouldn't wear it over a vest right now, but it fits on ME just fine.

Etoile,

Girl you got me hooked on the Sparks page. PM me your info so I can give you the referral (or post). Of course now I find myself entering my food into 2 nutrition counters but hey..least I am not using that time eating! ;)

I go to the doc at the end of the month for an orthopod referral - time to get a gameplan for the blown ankle joint so I can start some exercising routine (besides sex!)...

Hmmm, well after less than 2 weeks, he has decided he is done with diet packs and is going to lose weight just eating sensibly. LOL, I have no problem with that but our ideas on what is eating sensibly differ hugely, and do not include 2 full plates of food for dinner as he did the first night off the diet then starving yourself through the working day, or frying food and eating everything with bread. I am hoping it will change and he is beginning to reign it in a bit more and hasn't gained any of the 7 lbs he lost so all is good.

I had a huge craving problem when he began eating again....delicious smells wafting from the kitchen and watching someone eat in front of you is not very helpful!! He has told me he also wants me to go back to normal eating, but I am not so keen so have reached a compromise which means I manage to do one supplement minimum a day, and I control what I eat the rest of the day. During the weakness to the craving I regained some of what I had lost (LOL, understandable given chocolate and some other delicacies he bought me were too much to resist), but as of yesterday, I had lost what I had regained and am back to where I was last weekend so no ground lost really, and I still get to have one piece of chocolate a day!! I am determined!!

Yay, I'm glad you are enjoying it! My name on there is woofiegrrl, I have a SparkPage if you want to look that up. :)

Still 222 lbs, so no change in what the scale tells me. Although I do think I’m making progress in being leaner, I’m stronger than I have been in a long time and my jeans fit very loosely, more so than they did not too long ago.

All I can say about the boring part is that if you take your dog (if you don't have one you should get one they are too funny) with you. I have three dogs, Rocky is my boarder collie rot mix. Duece is my shepard rot mix. And then I have the little princess of the couch, Foxy a red pomeranian. I usually take Rocky on a mile and half, then Duece for his mile and a half... foxy can only go three quarters of a mile but she's more of a cool down lap really.

But other cures for the boredom... Do you have an iPod? I freaking love mine and unfortunately you will find me shaking my butt and mouthing along with the words every night. Another fun thing is the balance ball. I got one and LOVE it! I only did a few crunches on it and my tummy is feeling tighter already. Of course the balance ball is something I was doing while watching 'The Amazing Race'... I <3 that show!

Maybe I did more crunches than I thought.... hm... *wanders off to get her ball for a quickie...*

OH YEAH! I lost two and a half pounds.... *bounce bounce* I know that it doesn't seem like much but I was surprised really. I told a few friends and they were all 'it's ok you'll do better this week'.... I know that I was overambitious with my originial goal but I find I am happy with this loss. :cathappy:

I don't think my four cats would be very happy about that!

I do have an iPod but I worry about hurting it, and it isn't quite ENOUGH distraction from the boredom anyway! I do okay on the exercise bike if I'm watching TV, but it belongs to my in-laws so it's in their part of the house and I don't like to do it if they're around. (I don't want anybody seeing me all sweaty and out of shape, hah...)

Yea... my cats like to walk away from the house just not back towards it.... Kinda annoying when you have to carrya 20 lb cat back down the 2 blocks we kinda walked....

The dog likes to go for walks but I find walking with someone at night or around the park makes it a little bit easier. Hell if I take my camera I still have to do the walk but I might get a few neat pictures out of the deal.

Get someone to exercise with you... it seems to help a little bit.... specially when you get to watch them do squats and see how every muscle of their ass contracts and ..... ahem just a little off topic, sorry.

Do you really have such a big kitty?! My fat cat has a website - www.mischaisafattie.com - but he's not 20 lbs!

Hmm, a camera, now THAT is a cool idea! And my wife says we will be going for walks together when the weather gets better, though we've said that before...

He needs to go on a diet most likely but oh well what can you do, some cats are meant to be fat. The update on the weight this week is about a pound up but this weekend was kind of bad when it came to the food so you gotta let it go once in awhile.

*blinks* That is the biggest freaking cat I have ever seen... Too bad I am allergic otherwise I would give him a hug! *sneezes*

LOL, I just saw on the news this morning that they have opened a special gym & health club in Tokyo for dogs complete with treadmills and swimming and hot tubs...I did say 'what about one for cats' simply because I could see the fun and games in trying to get cats to exercise when they didn't want to...certainly wouldn't look as happy as alll the doggies that were going through their paces. :D

Another 2 lbs and the week isn't even over yet!!! That makes 31 lbs lost now. my first goal is only 2 lbs away. i think i might need to celebrate. i have wanted to reach this goal FOREVER.

For 60 days I didn't have any alcohol, no fast food outside of a salad here and there and I couldn't even lose one pound a week. I bet I lose more in the next 30 days on the low carb thing. I don't know why it works, but it does for me. I'm not a fan of Atkins. I think it's too restrictive, so I will eat all the green veggies I want.

Did you drink soda? If you drink just one soda a day.... everyday for a year... you will gain 15 pounds... I've dropped soda from my diet and I just feel better....
