This is such a tired issue.

Bottom line: Typically the countries who oppose the war against Iraq aren't being threatened by them. Many have been trading with Saddam long after his little misadventures murdering his own people. If he uses poison gas on them, do you think he would hesitate to use it, or worse, at the rest of the world? The politics of appeasement don't work when you are dealing with a madman. Just ask Great Britain about that paper-hanging son of a bitch (thanks, George).

Does this really need to be explained. I think you know why he limited his attacks on Israel to 1st generation SCUDs as well. Israel wouldn't think twice about using nukes. Yet another reason to handle the current situation delicately.

We're going despite the shrill voices of hysteria..

We are in place, SF is on the ground, satellites have been in geosynchronos orbit, we're staged, it's on in two weeks. I think we will be very careful not to be perceived as conquerers, so we don't get the "Stalingrad" syndrome where stupid peasants fight for the brutal Stalin regime, for the "Motherland". I think we will win their "hearts and minds" first. This war may be fought like Afghanistan, sporatic areas of engagement, a virtual news void due to rapid troop movement. If they use NBC weapons, well, we will lose some valuable ancient ruins North of Bagdad when the blast wave overpressure from either Israel's or our retaliatory response arrives!
