The backlash to my first story has been turning me on

Turning me on to want to write a sequel that is. ;)

I just posted my first story here and have already gotten over 50 comments. Mostly negative comments from what I assume are straight men. Guys who seem to hate it because they empathize with the main character and hate seeing how spineless he is, and how he's treated. It's a cuckold story. It's a bit extreme and cartoonish and meant to be. He suffers more because he's spineless. He starts to get a spine and them bam! Back to his cucky old ways. He's there to be humiliated. That's the purpose of his existence in the story. He's the sex toy we use to get off on our domination kink. He's there to be used and abused. We give him a little fight just to give us enough resistance to push him back down again.

I wrote the story in 2014 and its the first time I ever did a cuckold/humiliation piece. I wanted to try something new. I haven't written one since. It's not my typical genre, I'm more into fantasy. Although every once in a while I do something different just to push my own boundaries. But I'm mostly into doing original work, even if that original work can be cliche at times, which this cuckold story is. Oh well. Again, first time in that genre.

Also I think I put it in the wrong category because I didn't see a cuckold category here on Literotica.

Not all erotic fiction is for everyone. That should be obvious, but isn't. At the same time, looking at the actively log, it's interesting to see the number of people adding the story to their favorites despite all the negative comments and low ratings that would suggest everyone hates it. Quite a few secret admirers. So that's fun. I'm here for them. :)

What has been your experience with negative backlash. Has it inspired you? Does it make you want to write more? Does it make you want to get more extreme? Does it turn you on?

I just wrote a cuckold story, Caught Ch. 06 (my first erotica in like 12 years since the last one) which can be found in Interracial Love. I haven't gotten as many comments as you have but some of the review what been very scathing, some bordering on hysterical, mixed it with some general insults. I've also gotten a few comments from people who really like the story, and that's nice I really appreciate positive comments. I think I used to put mine in Loving Wives and boy did I get a lot of negative reviews.

I always put a warning that if you don't like interracial cuckolding type stories than you shouldn't bother ready, but evidently some people still do. I should probably add voluntary celibacy to the story to the story warnings or tags. I don't know, its hard to gauge what will enrage a reader. You can't please everyone.

I still try to learn something from the feedback. Although it can be misleading. For every thousand views I'm lucky if I get 1 comment. So the number of comments vs readers/views can vary enormously. So far, all my erotica are over 4.0, and I have 2 Hot stories, so even with all the 1 star bombs and triggered readers I suppose I still have plenty of readers who are satisfied with my erotica.

With Loving Wives you do get lots of views and lots of comments, but there are a large number of readers there whose kink is hating women.

Loving Wives is an absolute minefield, but this whole "hating women" thing is extremely exaggerated. It does occur, but mostly they hate CHEATERS who get away with it, regardless of gender. Look up a story in which the man cheats on his undeserving and lovely wife, and in which the woman then suffers whilst the man is being a complete dick about it, and you'll see an overwhelming amount of negative comments on that too. These stories even share the same fetish tag of BTB. (Burn the Bitch / Burn the Bastard, respectively) - if they strictly hated women, then wouldn't they want a different tag for the stories in which the gender roles are swapped? Undoubtedly, the cheater being the woman seems far more common in the stories, but that part's more of us author's fault than the readers, no?

Still, with that being said - and without meaning to kink shame anyone - it is weird to me when your favourite category of porn is one in which revenge (usually quite violent and/or brutal in some way) is the ultimate satisfaction in it, so I find these people somewhat frightening regardless of whom they hate. 😅 Because the hatred seems to be what gets them off. And mixing extreme anger with your arousal is a dangerous game to be playing.

Humiliation theme is quite the trigger in most categories, let alone LW, and getting extreme responses is to be expected. Next time you should put it as a tag or put a warning in the foreword because aside from maybe Fetish, you wouldn't get stellar ratings for that type of kink in any category. I would say that humiliation as a kink is more triggering than even a cuckold theme in the story. For good reasons too, as not many people find that erotic. Not judging, just saying ;)

Yeah, got a lot of that with my story. It was a “Loving Wife” story, but the wife is tricked into having an affair and the reviewers went ballistic.
That's excellent. A story or film that evokes emotion of any sort has met its purpose. I think that the hot wife category gets jeered a lot because it's a very deep down fetish that weak men can't handle. It tugs on their insecurities and likely reminds them of the 3rd...that man that they know their wife thinks about. For me, I allow for an open mind. 🥂⚔️

So you think the backlash is from men worried that they’d get cheated on or see themselves in the boyfriends/husbands? (But not in a good way)

Yes. When they read it, they imagine it's their wives unspoken fantasy. For me it's a turn on. For most, it evokes anger. I find it quite humerus how this isn't totally obvious!...lol..I take for granted that I'm an open minded man I guess. Keep it up either way. Love the haters...they'll secretly be having a wank thinking about it after their angry rant..haha!🥂⚔️

Well I guess I’m flattered if they do have a wank after, I got some reviews that were literally just men calling me “slut” for the story but ironically turned me on more than the compliments (too bad the admins deleted them).

My assessment is that it is far darker than that, unfortunately. I mean, think about it - the kind of stories that these same people love, and actually go to the Loving Wives category looking for, is the 'BTB' stories in which horrible things happen to the cheater in the end. So I don't think they're having a wank thinking about the humiliation aspect; I think they're having a wank dreaming of doing horribly violent things to the cheater. That's far more disturbing.

I clicked on a story in that category for research when it was linked in on the Author's Hangout during a discussion regarding a different author finishing a story that someone else had written, and in this "alternative finish", the man who got mistreated quite literally murdered a few people. 🫤 And there was hardly any sex. A few lines about him meeting someone better that was loyal, but.. The revenge was meant to be the climax. The story was poorly written from a technical point of view, yet had excellent rating.

Lol...names are a turn on! Can you call me a slut please?..lol...you don't have to...I already embrace it. Just imagine those haters taking a deep breath, walking up to their wife, who is most certainly thinking about a guy like me or an ex bf and whispering in her ear. You're my slut...hmmmm...would that turn her on? I'm thinking fuck yes...but it's a leap of faith that many are not willing to take..Sadly. haha..oh and my bad, spelled humorous wrong in the last post..grammar grr..lol🥂⚔️

This also tracks. A few reviews were them wishing something horrible happened to the wife afterward. Made me feel bad…its just fantasy. I live vicariously through them so it hurts when men say “i hope the b*tch gets in a horrible accident” or something. In a way she is me and her husband is my husband.

There will always be crazies. I can guarantee that those people were hurt in their past and didn't have the ability or coping mechanisms to let it go. Their problem mostly...until the few go off the deep end and physically or emotionally hurt their wife for enjoying being HOT!..wife!...lol..we won't even get into the religious aspect of this.lol🥂⚔️

I need to just post one of my dozens of peices! After I write one..I get into writing another and then distract from posting them. I feel like there's just so many stories..who is going to care about and highly sexual Vikings perspective! How cliche!

I'm not attached to these characters like that. Or at least I wasn't. The kink in this scenario was having the guy get humiliated so badly. That was kind of my point at trying the genre and going so extreme with it.

That said, 68 comments later and I've got people rewriting my story in the comments too. Baseball bats to pregnant wives bellies and things like that are their solution to the great injustice they feel was done in this story. Yikes!

I actually did decide to write a sequel tonight. Which is why I'm just now replying to this thread. It ended up longer than the first and I actually think it would make a lot of these complainers/haters happy. But I know they'll never read it. Most probably didn't get past the first few paragraphs of the original story. Plus I'll be posting it in a different category as it jumped genres on me.

I did it mostly for myself. Although I was inspired by the hateful comments. Just to see how I would give the main character a redemption arch. And I did so in a way that was not violent and I think ultimately was way more satisfying. It also allows me to veer back into my standard style of storytelling and away from the cuckold genre, since like I said, that was the only one of those I had ever written. This one doesn't change that fact. it still remains the only one I've written. Although this one does start that way, before it takes its turn to redemption.

I'll put it up soon. I just need to run through and edit it. Then however long it takes for approval after submitted.

I’m sorry to hear that, I’m happy to read both, the toxicity in these comments is insane

I wonder if it would make a difference if at the end of a cheating wife scenario, a twist revealed that the wife and husband were only role playing, and that everything the wife did to "wrong" the husband was done with prearranged approval for their mutual satisfaction. Would it make a difference to some readers? Or would they still rage about it? In one version the guy the wife cheats with is actually the husband, and they are only pretending she is cheating in order to get each other off. Alternatively, the wife could actually cheat and have sex with another man, but the wife does it with the husband's approval, and her humiliation of him was always an act, which is revealed at the end when the couple reunites.

1. There are a lot of readers who dislike infidelity (regardless of category) and won't even read it, and some very loud voices (especially in Loving Wives) that will desire punishment for it.
2. There's another group of loud voices (some overlap) that despises cuckolds (because men should keep their women under control) but putting such stories in Fetish does lead to a less hostile reception.
3. The 'It wasn't real!' plot twist doesn't really satisfy anyone. It's often used with CNC stories where the plot typically goes Man-Rapes-Woman-And-She-Loves-It-But-Twist-It's-A-Fantasy-Role-Play. As readers we know that 99.9% of these stories aren't real, but we indulge in believing them to be true within the safe space of our private imagination. For the author to turn round suddenly and say, "What you thought was happening wasn't really happening," just ruins the moment.

Ultimately, write the story you want to write. Don't try and second-guess reader reaction. For every comment you get from some asshole, there are a hundred other readers going, "That was good, but now I need to find another story to read."

Hi Natalie, unfortunately as a writer and this goes for all forms of art, it is all subjective. For as many people who like it you will have those who dislike it and some who are just trolling you to see if you will engage in a rant or see you upset. As far as getting criticized from non-writers this I take with a grain of salt. These people obviously don't understand what it takes to sit down, write, edit to the best of your ability, and then the nervous anxiety induced strength that is required to post it for all to see.

I think many people forget that on amateur websites, that the writers do not have funds to higher professional editors, and do not have time to spend months and years going over each and every word. And even then pro's often make mistakes too. Expecting perfection is to much to ask, all we can do is our best and hope our story excites or gives the reader an amazing adventure. Even with a typo or two.

One of my favourite authors, I believe it was Anne Rice, she said. "Write the story you want to read."

Ignore those that show hate or dislike without any reason, and keep working at your craft. And if you are given free constructive criticism, not matter how painful it is. Try and use it for your benefit.

If you want any help editing, or just going over stories let me know. I'm always open to help a fellow scribbler.

Funnily enough I also wrote a cuck story that I published under Loving Wives. So many negative comments. I'm hoping to write the sequel this year!

Honestly, I find them endearing. The fact that someone found my work so annoying they had to spend the time out of their lives to tell me about it is a strangely back-handed compliment.
