I cried at the Maggie scene too, actually I was crying until Talking Dead had Beth on and she started crying, then I cried again.

Beth was nothing in the first three seasons. I think they built her up to pull her down. The writers knew it would be great Daryl fodder too.

Oh and it was Maggie screaming that made me tear up. Daryl's bulging arm muscles on the roof had me moist in other areas.

Beth getting knocked off did indeed feel contrived. Much like Goose's death in Top Gun. Did it really need to happen? No it didn't. It felt like it was done just because we're expecting someone of the group to die.

I'm pretty sure she said she knew in season 7 that she would die in season 8. She's known for some time.
