The video game thread

Oh Come On...anyone who played the N64 Zelda's loved the graphics...and then they spring this shit? I mean, yeah, it looks cute and all...but the grown up graphics looked sooo much better. Am I saying I wouldn't play it? No. Am I saying it looks graphically stupid? Yes.

XIII

LT - sounds kinda cool... I like that kind of storyline. I played a game like that in the past... it was a 3rd-person Diablo-style perspective. I forget the name of the game, but you wake up in an old, broken down mental hospital, and you have some unique, strange items on your person... and a bandage around your head... and you have to talk to people to find your way out, etc... was very cool. ( I think the name started with an "N"... but I can't remember it.)

I gotta admit, though - after playing "Jet Set Radio Future"... I'm not too anxious about the phrase "cel-shading" or "comic book style". Do I judge too hastily? Is JSRF like the extreme of what I'm not looking for? I guess it was kinda cool, in a way... but it was just a little too "family-oriented" for me. ;) Or is XIII more like the anime-style that might go a little better with a "darker" type of game?

Hey, I don't remember asking for comments from the peanut gallery;) I read like a four line article on it about a month or so ago, so I think I did pretty good:p

I haven't seen any screens for XIII ... Although I'm sure a few of the Xbox web sites I go to will have them. So I don't know how exactly it will look.

JSRF was a sub-par for what the Xbox could pull off.. I'm thinking future games will be much better when it comes to cel-shading.

Come to think of it there aren't many games out there that push the Xbox to it's limits. Halo is one game that does.. I always talk about NFL 2K3 being a very close realistic looking game especially on player closeups..

The sad thing is that by the time developers really learn how to use the Xbox to it's full potential, "Xbox Next" will probably be out or at the very least months away.

'XBox Next'? Please tell me they're not calling it that. It's about as lame as 'PlayStation 2'.

On a side note - I now remeber why I thought Shining Force 2 was more difficult than the original. The enemies attack power grows out of proportion towards the end of the game. My guys are dropping from one hit in battles now!

I think the one you are thinking of is called Sanitarium.

So I got a PS2 :D and I purchased Tekken Tag Tournament (it's a greatest hits now which means $29.99cdn. YAY) and WWE: Smackdown SYM, and it's an awsome game. Just one thing. The season mode is cool and all, but as soon as you make it out of Heat it's almost impossable to win a match. I was doing fine all through heat and my first match in RAW, but after that I got my ass handed to me in like the next three matches. Now I don't know if that's just part of the story line or what, but it seems like the difficulty jumped about three levels. I've tried looking on the net to see if it was story line based or not and I coulden't find anything, so maybe I just really suck at smackdown all of a sudden. Oh well. I'll see how the next couple of matches go. But damn that is a sweet game.

See you all later. I gotta play some more gawd like Tekken now. Have fun.

YES - THAT WAS IT. :) Thanks, Semler! I was kind of a skeptic in thinking that somebody might have seen it and remember it, but I thought I'd describe it anyways.

Thanks again...

I had the same problem.
What I did was hit and punch like crazy. Eventually I got lucky and started to win. once you start to win it gets easier.
I won the undisputed title twice and tag title as well.

Okay, serious sam is actully pretty good. Rented it the other day and finally beat it today. Maybe took me abou 15 hours total to beat it on easy. Would seem impossible to beat it on extreme, heh. It's a good fps with cartoonish like graphics that I like alot. Kinda like the old super smash t.v. for the gensis where you get to dodge all the shit that's being thrown at ya. And the bosses were hard as well. Not to mention there could be an upward as 200 monsters on the screen at once. And 500 monsters total in a lvl that you gotta kill. Damn that was fun, running around trying not to get hit and still shooting the hell out of them. The weapons you get are awesome too...Rocket Launcher, Gatlet(sp?) gun, tommy gun, shot gun, double barrel shot gun, laser gun, gernade launcher, cannon(yes an old ship cannon slightly modified), and a flame thrower. Might be missing one or two, but those are the main ones, heh. A must play, but a renter.

And Mech Assault is great too...can't wait to try it out on live tomorrow sometime. Maybe tonite...

Sanatarium was neat when the angel cried. I never really played past that point.

I recently got a PS2 as well. Along with GTA Vice City, D.O.A 2 [ they kick high ], Fatal Frame [ so scary, a must play ], and Capsom vs SNK 2 [ because I like fighting games the best ]. Oooh- the new Mortal Kombat rocks and some advice: Dreamcast rocks if you enjoi fighting games [ Guilty Gear, King of Fighters, Marvel vs Capsom, Capsom vs SNK, D.O.A 2, Street Fighter Alpha and 3rd Strike ]. Get a boot disk because you can get cheap used Japanese imports of games that are just now hitting the PS2.

Serious Sam was so fun..

It reminded me of playing Doom but with better graphics...
I was smilling throughout the game.

Hehe ya...and the fighting places most of the time were freaking HUGE...HUGE I tell ya!! Not to mention the different little saying he does sometimes, heh.

Anyone managed to "BACK UP" Age Of Mythology with out needing some sort of Third Party Hack/Crack No-Cd thing?

Can't help you much with Age of Mythology...y'know, not playing computer games and all. Mech Assault looked cool, but Steel Battalion looked badass, assuming you have the cash to spend on that hulking controller. I saw Splinter Cell in action at wal-mart the other day...looks pretty damn sweet.
Oh...apparently nintendo is getting ready to put out a new version of the GBA...I guess it's like a PDA with a flip up screen.
