birth control pills an over the counter drug.

Me? I'm all for it. As soon as it's OTC no insurance, including Obama care, is going to pay for it. Which means that I won't be subsidizing, along with anyone else, some one else's life style choice.

The next step is for at least one (and two are lined up) to petition the FDA.

The back story hers is that many of the liberals in the medical community fear that the 'religion' issue may trump the law as passed. So they believe that this is the way to circumvent that problem. And once again, I agree whole heartedly.

I wish they were OTC back in the 40s when your mom was sexually active.

But wait! Then we wouldn't get these awesome threads!

They used hippo dung and maple sap back in Ishmael's day.

You know it sounds easy, but there are different kinds of birth control pills with different ingredients. It is not a one size fits all kind of thing. There are also serious side effects that need to be considered says the woman who got a blood clot while they were trying to regulate her menstral cycles.

I'm a lib and don't think bc should go OTC. As far as bc being subsidized..What hypocrisy. Like bc is the only prescription med being "subsidized".

Who gives a shit, you want control of your reproductive rights? I say give it to you. No more political football with this issue.

Of course that is unless you believe that women are too fucking ignorant to know their own bodies. Reversing everything I've been told over the past 40 years........by women.

I have nothing against headache powder being made more available. I mean, fuck; it's just powdered aspirin.

You're just trying to bring us one step closer to OTC oxy. We all know white powder is bad. Once you crush an aspirin, it becomes an addictive hardcore drug.

Ahh otc oxy.

Ish comes from the generation that actually had cocaine in Coca-Cola, so he can tell you how dangerous it is. I mean, sure, it helped him get up in the morning to go to work at the stove polish factory, but it's addictive.

Listen I'm a nurse. I don't think woman are too ignorant to know thier own bodies. Knowing your own body and understanding the complexities of how each birth control pill interacts with it is another. It's just like saying a man should know all the prostate medications usage and side effects or they aren't a man who knows their body.

You really don't know me so you don't know my feelings on reproductive rights.

when ish gets bumps on his dick he doesn't go see a doctor. because as a male, he knows everything about his body and never needs to consult any medical professionals!

The business model of the pharmaceutical industry is about making money off of people's illnesses.

Curing them of disease would not be as profitable as giving them a drug and forcing them to take it for the rest of their life.

The profits and continued existence of many medical/pharmaceutical establishment corporations depend largely on treating people for disease, and not curing them.

They would go out of business if they started curing diseases. And I assure you that THEY DO have cures for most diseases known to man secretly locked away somewhere. But they are only available to billionaires, world leaders, and members of the ruling class.

Your average schmo has to go through the least effective and most profitable regimen of treatment for his/her ailments.

When Ish gets bumps on his dick, he doesn't need a doctor, he needs mold-killer.

Condoms are an over the counter birth control, isn't that enough? Being a dude I always thought that women went to the Docs to get BC pills because they are a type of meds that might affect your health if you got the wrong one or dose, but as I said I am a guy so I got no fucking clue on that end.

BC should be over the counter.
And then the price should be dropped to make them as cheap as condoms.
Either that, or the law should be changed to bring child support more into line with the cost of pregnancy prevention ;)

MMMHMMM^^^ the wrong pill will wreck a chick, and the rest of it too.

They need to quit subsidizing any of it, why would big pharma charge any less than what the gov is willing to pay? And we wonder why drugs developed and made here are 1/10th the price in any other country on earth but this one....
