It was the seventeenth night of the stakeout. Detective Alex Rogers was a veteran of these long and boring sessions. It never meant that he actually liked them, however. The only thing that made this different was the company he had with the witness. The area wasn't the worst in the city, that was for sure. He was camped out in her very own apartment on the 24th floor in the upper west side, which was a middle-income area. Across from her apartment building was an office building, one of which she had seen everything from late night sex sessions between unknown office workers, possible drug deals between big wigs, and what had to be a murder. The problem, though, was that it was a major crime ring, and to be sure that Alex was getting everyone involved, it meant sitting in this poor girl's apartment and watching.
She didn't seem to mind it. If he didn't know any better, he thought that she might actually enjoy the company since she lived alone and was single. He was a bit older than her as he was pushing 30 years old himself, but that didn't mean he didn't have the same illicit thoughts that other men had when he looked at her. The two had grown to have some random conversations and gotten to know each other in between the two of them watching. She had volunteered to help out, but requested that only one member of the police force be with her. The department agreed and Alex practically moved in. Between take out chinese all the time and terrible movies on Showtime, there wasn't much else to do besides talk.
