When I was doing the fix-a-house thing for the "affordable housing" folks, they got a lot of first-time home buyers. Thing is, most of those people grew up in rentals. I'd tell them, there's no more landlord to call when something breaks. You're the landlord now.


I think that reality was hard on them.


There was the woman who called me to replace the smoke detectors that her brother-in-law destroyed to make them stop chirping, when all they had to do was to replace the batteries . . . .

I just read a blog post where some guy over at AT discovered that the internet could tell him how to fix his washing machine and how to get parts.


Only the st0000pids are still calling the repairman.

I bought parts for a Russian semi-auto online to fix one I had . . . back in '04. At midnite. And got them that week.


It was forecast to rain and then stop. It rained all motherfucking day long. I got my fucking feet wet at 10:30 and they stayed that way until I snuck home between jobs and changed my shoes-n-socks. I also changed my shirt for a sweater and my damp jacket for a dry heavy one. The temps dropped as the day went on, and the wind was whipping. By mid-afternoon, the air had big very sharp pointy teeth.


By the time I got home, I felt pretty damned comfy.

There are bamboo leaves everywhere, especially on the koi pond fall-winter netting. The Queen asked, "Where are they all coming from? I picked all of the dead ones off!"

The fuckers are 25' tall and there's no way to get a ladder in there, but hey, at the time, she was feeling very productive.

The Queen loves grilled peppers, so along with the meat, I stuffed a bunch of them with cream cheese, bacon and spices. I put them on a metal sheet with holes in it, so the smoke could circulate...



I tried to plate it and scored a nice long burn mark on my thumb.

She better like that shit!

Heh. I got home to a posted notice that I have 48 hours to register my non-working truck or else be in violation of a city "environmental code". Would you like to be that inspector tomorrow when Wat calls him? ReallY? As a recent crime victim? I think he'll be less than happy when I get done with him.


We should be done with this project in another 6-8 weeks. Then I'll be eligible to be reassigned, and Allah knows where that'll be.


I had two filled donuts and a piece of cheesecake. That'll do for "supper" tonight.


And I have another road-trip talk to deliver tomorrow, so I'll have to rest up tonight, I reckon.
