How much do you pay for your electricity?

Here in the NorthWet it is pretty cheap - I seem to remember times when it was 3-4 cents per KWH, and not too long ago I was paying about 6 cents per KWH. Now it is about 8 cents.

Since I've just moved I don't know yet.

I was just upstairs and thought "my how warm it is in here" looked at the thermostat and saw it was on 80!! My son fessed up that he'd turned it up.

So I'm expecting a very high electric bill. lol

hmmm....break it down now...

Days on bill: 28
KWh used: 1,476
Avg Kwh per day: 52.7
cost per day: $3.51

Not sure if it is still true but since WWII the Northwwest has had the lowest electric rates. Its due to massive hydro-poer. Its also the reason electric heat was so populat there while in the Northeast is practically never installed.

Cool side note, many credit the ample electric power in the Northwest to helping win wolrd war II. The massive production of aluminum for aircraft requires substantial lectricity and could have only been donw int eh Northwest ons ucha scale.

Of course so many of the rivers up there are fouled with dams, as is the case in much of the country.

i voted other. it's included in my rent, so i pay zero.

That would be almost 7 cents per KWH. Vote!

I just got my bill for November to January.

65 days
1383 KWH used
$111

I cut way back on my electricity this year - last year I used about twice as much and got hit with some pretty good bills. During the summer my per month bills are about $20-$30, so heating my place about doubles that.

Still true.

Aluminium is such a high energy intensive industry that it must be done where energy is cheap.

The only places where energy is cheap are places that have lots of hydro power. The Northwest US and Norway have large amounts of hydro power and are both centers for aluminium production.

The aluminum plants are right next to the dams here in the NorthWet. Interestingly, with power prices going up, the aluminum producers found they could make more of a profit reslling their power than by producing aluminum. They sent their workers home, with pay, and resold their power, and still made more profit. I don't know if this is still going on, but for a while it was.
