this is the first post on this page.

You are not visiting any particular world, it's just a thread.

;)

Limiting the number of stories per week certainly wouldn't hinder me, even linking both pen names. I barely manage to put out anything new on a monthly basis, let alone weekly :p

That said, I haven't noticed any spikes in the time it takes a story to get approved on Lit since I started here. If anything, I've seen my wait time decrease. I don't know that the influx of multiple stories per day from single authors is really putting much pressure on the delay between submission to posting.

I have to say that calling things that are produced in multiples each day "stories" begs the definition a little...

Or maybe it's a matter of modifiers; I'd rather read "good stories" than "many stories."

(says the woman who hasn't produced much at all this year after all)

I'd like to see some of these multiple submissions rejected as not being stand alone stories. Either that or moved to Novels as works in progress.

I've seen a number of them from Survivor entrants that are seriously pushing it for content - if read in isolation they are meaningless and go nowhere.

Report them. Use the report this story button at the end of the story and send a pm to me and Lauren letting us know which stories are doing this.

you're a real kidder...

I'll bet it gets you excited just thinking about it…

SCOURIES QUOTE My argument here is not with the author herself but instead with the site…. I’m quite happy ma’am to see you allow authors to repost old stories, but don’t put them in the NEW STORY section – they aren’t. Just put them back up on the author’s story page without comment or fanfare

DK QUOTE … Yes, I've been reposting a lot of my work and usually, I say right in my author's note that this is a repost. If you can't stand the thought of my work being on this site again, I think you need to take yourself back to your doctor and tell them to up your antipsychotic drugs again.

That’s your problem Miss K. You’re quite prepared to twist other people’s words to get a little extra ink. You suggest to others that I can’t stand the thought of your work being up on the site when my exact words were I’m quite happy ma’am to see you allow authors to repost old stories. And this crap about doctors and drugs? C’mon!

There are two distinct issues here. The first, the one I raised is – Should previously issued stories be allowed back on the NEW STORY page a second time? My answer to this is a resounding NO.

Miss DK interpreted this as “stalking” but all I can say to her is “everything isn’t always about you sweetie”. I believe it should apply to every author on the site. It’s why I cited other authors as examples of people who I don’t want to see start reposting their stories.

What it is my dear is me raising a valid question about how the site operates. And given some of the replies it’s clear that others here also have some problem with old stories being reposted as new.

The second issue, discussed here by some of you, and one I didn’t raise but also have very strong opinions on, is How many stories should authors be allowed to post?

I once suggested that LITEROTICA charge authors for each story posted after a certain threshold had been reached, and although not a popular suggestion at the time, still think it’s not a bad idea.

The heart of the “over posting” problem is the SURVIVOR CONTEST and I’ve always believed it should be cancelled.

It encourages quantity over quality. It simply sullies the reputations of some of our best authors. Those writers who could (and should) be producing the best stories on the site, instead, are rushing to produce the most stories. Contrary to common sense they are alienating large parts of what should be their reading audience. They are hurting their reputations (and future views/sales) by putting out stories under their names that simply are of inferior quality.

Limiting authors to posting one story a week max would be a win/win situation for all of us.

And even if she is a SURVIVOR CONTESTANT I must say I like this Canadian Princess! People who make sense and have great avatars…

And who is this CrimsonMaiden guy and why would we report problems to him? Don’t tell me he’s one of the infamous

“T W E L V E___WISE___ONES”

I’ve been looking for?

especially since those multiple submissions are mostly between 700-1500 words.

The answer to your "no" is, simply, that it can't be helped. The technology won't do it. It isn't worth worrying about, and all the hollering in the world isn't going tochange it. Choose your battles (although you seem to prefer the unwinnable ones)

I will say that it's one reason why I won't repost any of the stuff I've removed. Not because of the 'new story' page, but because the readers are smarter than that-- I once removed a multi chapter story, rearranged the chapters and reposted it, and got several comments saying that it was old material.

I gotta say you are right on with this. I'm impressed that you've stated it so clearly and concisely, in fact.

Scouries, you remind me of an old guy that my dad used to know. He would always think himself so much above everyone else also. You aren't happy to have me here, and I know this. I don't give two sticks about your opinion, but please, at least have the bravado to speak the truth.

The stalking starts when you find something that puts a little twist in your panties...such as my sailing by you on the favorites list. Then suddenly you decide to find something about me that you don't consider "fair". You drag my name back into your stupid thread and then I'm treated to some of the other aged darlings that like you meanderings so that they come and post their bs on my work. I don't care about that, it'll happen one way or another. I just don't want to be in your stupid thread. So...once more...quit stalking me, keep my name out of your delusional rants and what you think are wonderful ideas and I'll stay out of your thread. I'd much rather not have a reason to pollute my thinking with your rants. Leave me, my work and et al alone and I'll stay away from you...

You certainly didn't have a problem with your good buddy bfw when he was posting stories that he wrote last year and they were coming up not only on the new list but also as certified stories for survivor...why didn't you say something about him? Or didn't you think the two of you would continue to have your masturbatory sessions any more if you did?

Leave me alone, Scouries.

Dear god, stuck on yourself much?

You and scouries deserve each other. The only reason you don't get along is because you're exactly alike.

it wasn't darkboy who stole my graph!!!!

SCOURIES POST # 2423 – WTFI buy Jacqui a great dinner, take her out clubbing, give her a present…hell, I even agreed to let her come to work at ScouriesWorld. Why not, Gabby gets along with her cousin…she’s eighteen…and she showed what she could do with a computer…as well as with her…

So I wake up this morning and find out somebody has stolen my graph which she had put up for me. YOU PRICKS! Whoever you are…

It’s OK. It wasn’t darkboy or jj. The whole frigging site crashed or something. Fundamental Islamic Terrorists apparently were behind it. Ship the bastards to Guantanamo Bay!

Here’s what they told me:

Hi there-

Our image server machines crashed. We did not have the proper back-up so this has affected all of the pictures on the site from loading. We have ordered new machines and are hoping to get this issue addressed as soon as possible. I will test out the login for you and get back to you as well as soon as I can. We appreciate the continued support and apologize for the trouble. Thanks

did you agree with me about something?

God, it was bad enough to find that you’d returned where you weren’t welcome, starting another one of your “stalking rants” about me, but then you go and insult Freddie? Why? He’s been quite nice to you lately, showing a maturity that you’d be wise to emulate.

As to my opinion of the SURVIVOR CONTEST: I’ve disliked it from the day I discovered what it was some two and a half years ago. And clearly posted to that effect. But I don’t dislike the authors who participate, just what it does to their output.

starrkers QUOTE You know, if you hadn't thrown in that mindless sixth point, I would have added a hear hear to your last post

Just concentrate on the first five points then Australia. Send an e-mail or PM to Manu telling him your thoughts on the subject, not mine.

Mindless sixth point? Gabby doesn’t think so. Now be honest, would you prefer that ScouriesWorld produced the vote list or LITEROTICA produced an official vote list?

STELLA O QUOTEIt's just the way the software works. Any story submitted is a new story, with a new ID number. It's simply not possible to identify a story out of the hundreds, and restore the ID that has been expunged from the database.

…but I don't worry that Manu or Laurel are personally involved in any way.

C’mon Miss O, of course it’s possible. That’s the beauty of computers. You put darkboy with his computer ability on the case for thirty minutes and I guarantee he could figure out how to do it. And remember, our main man MANU is a computer genius!

And you really don’t believe the ROYALS are involved in any way? You’re very naïve Miss Stella!

As to your agreeing with my opinion of the SURVIVOR CONTEST (did you really agree with something I said?) I suggest you forward your views to Laurel and Manu.

PILOT QUOTENo I think he doesn't "get it." He obviously doesn't "get" that when he whines about 75% of a huge number of votes being swept from his stories, the inference we take is that he has massively cheated to begin with and that the editors only have to sweep because of what he--or someone else in his favor (which I don't find to be too likely)--has done to begin with. If he "got" that, he'd keep his mouth shut through the sweeps and just be happy with whatever cheated numbers he managed to get by the sweeps.

Now you’re starting to sound really, really bitter! The old dispassionate pilot seems to be no more.

Cheating? What you don’t realize my good man is that when you reach a certain level you don’t need tricks or silly little plots. Success doesn’t come that way pilot – instead it takes hard work and passion and talent and more hard work…it demands research… It means listening to your readers… Instead what you seem to want is some shortcut to sales and royalties. Sorry pal, it don’t work that way.

Look, I’m sorry your stories aren’t popular, I’m sorry very few people want to read them. But that’s life. It’s more a product of the categories you write in and the fact that you pumped out a huge number of stories when you first arrived here, than it is your writing ability. You chose quantity over quality and this of course chased away many potential readers – readers you’ll have a very hard time recapturing.

My suggestion to you is to choose a new LITEROTICA name, and then concentrate on producing a few very good stories instead of a huge number of average stories. Try to emulate me.

Then you too may find fame and fortune.

Cloudy, I'm saying this with as much respect as I can, but go to hell. I don't much care what you say about me, mostly because you are like these old Italian ladies that I lived by once. They just loved to pick apart a carcass and kicked a few dead horses when they were at it.

Scouries...whatever. Stay in your dream world and write your crap. I'd much rather have real royalty checks and real fans that enjoy my work than sit back and hatch your little dramas trying to pull me down. So I think what I said to Cloudy goes to you too...but without the respect. Go to hell.

oh, ouch. As if your opinion means anything to me.

Know this: I'm not the only one that feels that way, I'm just the only one that has the guts to say it. I'm not going to kiss your ass like everyone else does, and you just can't stand it, can you? I'm so sorry I don't share your high opinion of yourself. Believe it or not, I was rather restrained, and didn't say all that I could have.

If you really wanted this thing with scouries to stop, you'd stop posting here. Obviously, you want it to continue. That's what attention whores do.

Now, go whine about me on your blog. You're really good at that.

yeah, this happens sometimes. Welcome to the realities of the internet! it doesn't happen by magic.

Let's see if i can explain this a little.

In regards to your belief that computers can do anything... They can do much, but they are not ominipotent. There's the size of the computer, for one thing. The computers that hold websites are called "servers" because they "serve" out tasty morsels of internet to the computer you are sitting in front of. These are, generally, pretty powerful critters nowadays. They take lots of electricity to keep going, and they need lots of airconditioning, because they really do get hot-- all those bits and bytes whizzing around! ;) They cost a LOT of money to buy and set up-- and all for your entertainment.

Another thing is the software. Software is the programs that make the Internet happen. There are many peices of software, and many of them can be linked together to make fun happen for you. They get linked together, and they get told what to do, by software languages. Languages, in computers, are, mostly regular words-- but if you tried to read them they wouldn't make much sense. The computer reads them though.

Manu is not a "computer genius", he's a guy who has learned a certain software language called "PHP". In order to use it, he is dependent on a type of software, called a database, which has to be "talked to" by yet another kind of software language, usually the one called "mysql". These softwares and languages have their strengths, and also their weaknesses. One weakness with many databases is the sheer amount of information that it has to organise. And the dataload on lit is truly astounding. It's astounding to me, frankly, that lit operates as smoothly as it does! :rose: I won't get technical on you here, you'll have to just trust me. But you can see what happens, by the email that your image server sent you. That is NOT unusual, believe me!

When Daniellekitten, or myself, or DN, deletes a story, the story is deleted. It is no longer being stored in the database. It is gooooone. The computer doesn't remember that it ever existed. Just like if you deleted a file from your home computer (and emptied your recycle bin, because home computers are a little more forgiving than servers are) .

what you are asking for would demand that the database retain a copy of the story, and yet not have it show up on the website. First of all, that would be illegal, because the website is not the owner of the story.

Then, in order to cull those few stories which are being resubmitted as new, the database would have to check every single submission, word-for-word, against every single story in the database. Thousands of stories, trillions of words. NASA's computers would slow down to a crawl, much less the normal powers of lit's server computers.

You and I would never be able to read anything, because the computer would be using all of its memory and processing time just checking stories. The entire website would crash, for everyone in the world.

Does that help? :)

Yes, I agree with what you said about survivor. I don't know why you couldn't say it so clearly and simply about a thousand posts ago-- but even a stopped clock tells the time twice a day.

(eta) Christ, that's a long post. and such a waste of my time, what was I thinking!

I've never mentioned you on my blog and I've never asked anyone to kiss my ass. You don't like me fine, I don't care. I don't put myself on your radar, you've just butted your nose in on me. You've hated me since you were proven wrong about me cheating on a valentine contest. That's life. I hope you enjoy yours. I'll stay out of your business, just like I've asked Scouries to stay out of mine. I don't post here unless he starts up more shit. He mentions my name and that draws me back into it. I don't want to be here, understand, but I'm not going to sit back and let a creep like him push me around.

I don't hate you. You'd have to carry some importance to me for me to invest any emotion in you. Sorry. All you are is amusing in a roll-my-eyes-when-I-see-you-post kind of way. I rarely read them because I know they'll be one of two types of posts: 1) "I'm so sick - pity me," or 2) "I'm so much better than everyone else."

Since you want to be a bitch, I'll be blunt: I think you're a whiny attention whore. You've gotten a little bit of attention for your writing, and you've decided that your shit doesn't stink like everyone else's does.

You post in here because you like the attention - PERIOD.

eta: you remind me of brightlyiburn: she was just as immature, and just as stuck on herself as you are. And to "get in your business" I'd have to do something more than read a public post on a public bulletin board. Smarten up.

And why do you post in here?

Your opinion of me doesn't matter to me, Cloudy. You don't know me just as I don't know you. I do know that when I sent you a pm after that valentine fiasco, you didn't even have the common courtsey to read it and send me a go to hell. Oh well. As I've said, I haven't put myself on your radar, you've come gunning after me. If you care so little, then why bother? For about the past month, I've stayed mostly out of the forum except for a few posts on other threads, why, because I'm busy. I have a family and friends besides this place.

I only post in Scouries thread because he constantly draws me back into his madness. He finds someone else to write about and I'll stay away period. Will you?

Still carrying a grudge from something that little that happened four years ago? Sure, yep, whatever. Tell it to someone who might believe you. You don't have as much to occupy your time as you'd like me to believe if you still remember a PM you sent me that long ago. I sure don't.

Umm, did you pay any attention to the name? Maiden means GIRL (just because I have a Dale Jr. avatar doesn't mean I'm a guy). You wouldn't report any problems to me unless you're in the Survivor Contest. I'm one of the mods.
