We have Wesley Clark’s contention that Kosavo is going to hell in a hand-basket (Wall Street Journal) and saying if the UN does not act, the US should form a coalition of willing allies and go in unilaterally [Ironic, no?]. The UN Prosecutor is strongly hinting that the reason it’s still going on is that we would not accept casualties and meanwhile, Iraq saying, hey, you found no weapons, so why are you still billing us for the search and just how long do you expect us to keep funding Tehran with our oil revenues?

Our Congress, led by KANSAS Senator Sam Brownback is issuing a challenge to Annan about the Dafour region of Sudan, do something about it or resign.

"The United Nations has failed over and over to prevent genocide," said Wolf, who heads the House of Representatives subcommittee that approves US payments to the United Nations.

"If in the year 2005 the Security Council cannot deal with genocide ... I believe it's fair to ask what purpose is the United Nations serving in the 21st century."

Of course, the coup de ‘gras could be Clinton’s assent ion to Secretary General. Koffi Annan has tapped him to be the Tsunami Relief Envoy and we know what happens when that Camel’s Nose gets in the door…

"I'm sure you might agree that putting a left-wing, undisciplined and ethically challenged former President of the United States into a position of such power would be a tragic mistake." Jesse Helms [AP]

This is one hurdle I don't think Willy is going to leap.

The UN Sec. Gen. is nominated by region on a rotating basis. It's Asias turn to nominate any replacement for Kofi. They're already in discussion on their nomination. Also, by precedent, no Sec. Gen. has ever been nominated from one of the permanent Security Council members.

As far as the rest of the post, my feeling about the UN are already well known and documented. :D

Apart from your last two paragraphs I agree...

But instead of going the American way with a 'Coalition of the Perhaps/Maybe/Let's Talk About It' to go to trouble spots in a unilateral heavy handed way, America could best serve the interests of the world by leading a Boardroom revolt against the UN and start some much needed heavy pruning (and maybe even some culling). For once America's might used in the right way could probably attract the support needed to totally reform the UN...

After all you're not the only country that's fed up with Koffi's weakness and the UN's inefficiency.

Well, p_p_, we have this little thing called the Neutron Bomb...

We'll still be able to use the facilities.

;) ;)

You know the first thing slick's gonna do when he hits Indonesia is establish residency and start pumping the flesh...

I thought that had been consigned to the dustbin of history. After the initial 'kills people but keeps buildings intact' rubbish I didn't hear anything else about it...

:)

Why not? Some veeery nice women out there...

Ah Sheena, I remember her still...

They are tucked away for a rainy day...

Rumsfeldt is remounting the drive to get that bunker-busting nuke he's been wanting for use against Tehran and Pyongyang.

Toys for boys, we got!

*chuckle* Yup, that's his style alright.

PP, we tried that before. How do you think Kofi got in office? He was supposed to trim and prune, he didn't.

It will take years of re-org. and substantive action to restore credibillity to the UN. And that will require a strong Sec. Gen. who will NOT enjoy any popularity with the third world members that see the UN as a means of rewarding their cronies.

Then there's the French. :)

I'm pretty sure you can pick up Sheena in the cheap DVD bin at Walmart...

:D :D :D

[Don't tell Bill, or we'll never get him outta Walmart again!]

Le Frogues...

Arabs don't want Freedom?

I think it scares the French more. After-all, when given the chance, they vote Socialist and Communist!

Another 30 years or so and they'll be voting for the party of Allah.

Linda Chavez has a column up on the same vein.

The UN and Human Rights

One interesting little paragraph in it;

"Given the politics of the U.N., in which countries often act in regional or interest-based voting blocks, censuring -- much less stopping -- genocidal activity becomes nearly impossible. Arab and Muslim nations constitute one of the largest and most powerful voting blocks within the U.N., and these countries are loath to criticize their co-ethnics and co-religionists, especially for crimes against non-Arabs or non-Muslims."

No, I think the French, like the Russians, would vote a king back into power if he promised to be benevolent and hold lavish parties, circuses, and football matches...

Just as long as the average Frenchman is allowed to do as little as possible while earning maximum benefits.

The Russians were happier pretending working with pretend pay.

Proof's in the puddin'!

Ahhh, but those masses of immigrants aren't French. Therein lies their problem. The Arab immigrants have refused to integrate themselves into the European community.

The Dutch propose to kick them out, the French propose to take over the Mosques.

The Dutch plan will allow them to keep their culture at the expense of their social welfare programs. The French have decided to sacrifice their culture to keep the social welfare programs. There's a lesson here for anyone that cares to observe and learn.

The French have never hesitated to use violence on their own soil to maintain the staus quo be it a strike, a revolution, religious massacre, or the little corporal giving the fine citizens of Paris a taste o' the grape.

I think the Muslims better keep their heads up (if they want to keep them on!).

The French aren't all that weak and ineffectual. They just don't do ANYTHING unless they absolutely HAVE to. At least that's what it looks like from the 'Heel.

... just to maintain a sense of fashion and display proper breeding and dignity.

They're perfectly well integrated. Along with the Asians and the Bosnians...

They all work at Pizza Hut.

How much more integrated can you get than that?
