The Ohio State University gives scholarships to total morons.

I'll bet he said the same thing all through high school. Thirty years from now he'll bitch about how he was taken advantage of.

He didn't dress for the game on Saturday so at the very least they hurt his feelings over the tweet.
Fuck him. He's a highly regarded recruit but you just don't say shit like that. He can go play with Maurice Clarett.

What student?

He clearly states he doesn't consider himself to be one.

People who follow this stuff say that his grades are fairly good. Yeah, yeah, cue all the usual comments about how football players at THE OSU don't have to go to real classes, but players can and do get kicked off the team for grades all the time, including (a couple of years ago) the son of one the Buckeyes' all-time legends.

He's not the first kid who doesn't fully realize he's a public figure now to say dumb shit on Twitter, and he won't be the last.

Remember when the Buckeyes number one ranking depended on Katzenmoyer passing a class? It made SI's college preview cover.

Found it.

Shouldn't have gone there. We all know that means nothing.

Of course they do. Otherwise, influential people would start pulling out magnifying glasses on the program.

Maybe the dumb shit has a point without realizing it. Big time college football is in reality the minor league of the NFL. Why should football players take up class room space? Why should they get college credits and degrees they haven't earned?

A small percentage of college players go pro and those who get degrees do earn them. Some exceptions but it's not the norm. Maybe it used to be but not anymore.

Maybe it doesn't, and maybe it does. John Frank (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Frank) and wide receiver/Rhodes Scholar Mike Lanese were contemporaries of mine at THE OSU. I was in classes with Lanese and can personally attest to his intellectual chops.

Been there, done that.

That's a separate question and not a bad one, but this little hypocrisy isn't going to end anytime soon. All you can do is hope that the vast majority who aren't going to make a living at football end up getting something out of their free education. For people like Jones, who comes from one of the less hopeful neighborhoods in Cleveland, college is an incredible opportunity even if he doesn't totally get that yet.

Sounds like ebonics to me. He could be very intelligent, even if his speaking isn't that great. So are you implying his speach pattern makes him a moron?

Nope, CIH alt. It's the "anti-classes" message that's the problem. Not the style.

And I've told you before: it's spelled speech.

Oops. Busted.
